I know there's so many players on good form, and I'm certainly not the first to mention him, but what a revelation Freeman's been this season.

Initially transfer listed by Wilder, yet trained hard and earned his place in the team, a great model professional. He's had to be very patient as well with Brayford ahead of him for so long (regardless of how he performed).

Solid at the back, yet making breaking runs going forward with a very handy return of six goals (more than McDonald and Evans and level with Ajose, Clarke and Jackson) and five assists (more than Sharp, Van Veen and Spearing).

How long is left on his contract?

I was there for that game and agree pal, looked like the end of their time at SUFC
 
I'm a big fan, but for large parts today he didn't seem his best to me. Not darting forward like he usually does but he was more composed when defending. Still, massive praise that even when not playing his best game for us, still layed on an assist and a clean sheet to boot.

We've been shipping goals. I think he played to orders today. Still put in a great shift and most of our attacking threat came down his side.

You've nailed it. When Freeman played as a RB he was frequently caught upfield and out of position due to his natural desire to get forward. He's a wingback,not a fullback and playing him as one is as daft as playing Sharp in that position.
 
Everyone's opinions will differ, but if I had to pick a player of the season so far, it would be between him and Duffy (with an honourable mention to Fleck, who may well overtake both if he plays like he did today for the rest of the season).

2 players that I had little faith in at the start of the season, who have become integral to our success so far.

Lost count of the number of times he failed to beat the 1st man especially in the 1st half.

He put 2 or 3 towards the front post, exactly where (with the way we were set up) the run of Sharp should have been. Not slagging Sharp when I say that, but when paired with Hanson, he needs to position himself differently in some situations to when not.

Absolutely – he's been one of the main beneficiaries of the system we play, suits him down to the ground. The formation suits the strengths of the XI we put out, while ensuring their weaknesses are less likely to be exposed. It's why recent calls to ditch it have been so bizarre to read on here.

Sounds like you're talking about Lafferty, freeman did ok picking out big H for the 2nd.

Great result but didn't think it was our best performance and the opposition didn't offer much - great to see we never sit back on a lead and keep pushing for more! UTB's some defining games over the next few weeks

No definitely Freeman 1st half.
Agreed he did pick out Hanson, but he wasted 4 or 5 good chances to get the ball in the box by failing to beat the 1st man before that.
Your right they didn't offer much bar a 20min spell in the 1st half.
Early goal helped,tougher tests to come.
But at least we now have good options on the bench to change things if they are not working like against Fleetwood.
 
Freeman, i, he's had a good season, if he could only cross a football properly we'd be 10 points clear at the top.

Benefiting from a manager and coaching staff selecting a system to best suit the players they have. 3-5-2 is perfect for him, gives him cover defensively and allows him to get forward.

Also, great man management from wilder to get him going again, and a smart move bringing in O'Shea to keep him on his toes.
 
Freeman could not be regard as a great footballer. But he is a player that seems to give of his best every time he turns out for us. Therefore what more can we expect from him. He has scored goals, provided assits like today. we may have had better players with more talent and ability but kieron can never be criticised as not giving absolutely all.
 
We need to consider his role - he's a wingback, not a winger. He's not going to be dribbling past opponents, but instead he'll be overlapping and hitting first time crosses. When Freeman is at his most dangerous is when he breaks forward and is put in by Coutts, Fleck or Duffy. In that scenario his delivery is pretty damned good

When people grumble about him hitting the first man it's usually when he's one on one with a fullback. Ask yourself how often any player when faced with a fullback can work a yard and cross dangerously? It's a rare skill. In fact, I'd say only Chapman in our squad has that ability.

At this level Freeman must be as good as they come is in the wingback role. He's energetic, technically decent, and willing to gamble. I really enjoy watching him play these days.
 
All the threats in the first half involved Freeman. He was tripped for the first goal, excellent assist for the second, and several more dangerous situations created. I barely noticed him second half - all the attacks seemed to be through the middle or down the left - the 2 goals, Billy's unsuccessful chip, excellent cushioned centre from Lafferty, etc. I assume this was tactical. To surprise them? To defend a particular threat? To let Basham go forward? What do the tacticians on here think?
 
In the second half yesterday for a spell, he was making himself available and there almost seemed to be a deliberate policy to not give him the ball. At one point it went back deep into our own half when there was a simple pass on to him that would have taken him level with the penalty area - he struck me as a bit frustrated with the lack of service.

I may be reading too much into this, but it did strike me as a little odd.

From behind the goal on the Kop I didn't notice that. It suggests we were spoils for choice in our attacks.

Yeah may be so.
But on at least one occasion the ball went right back, deep into our half when he could have driven it forward and I noticed he did a little shrugging gesture on two occasions. I guess he's just hungry for the ball and is disappointed when he doesn't get it, in itself a good thing.

Disappointed must be putting it mildly if you have been running up and down all match. It is interesting to get the view from different parts of the ground. In the south stand for the Orient cup game, I was amazed at how much running Freeman did. Great energy and commitment, even when the game was won.
