A lot of people seem totally oblivious to how much players cost and how that compares with Utd's budget. Not just transfer fee but signing fees, agent fees, salaries etc. Those suggesting players like Taylor, Boyle and Gregory are signed whilst the club lingers in div 1 and continues to lose several £m each year are unfortunately miles away from reality.

The owners have been burnt in previous years chucking large sums at trying to buy their way out and it has failed every time so I can understand their reluctance to do so again.

Posted similar on another thread.
Wilder's the 'cheap option', with a remit to reduce costs....only time will tell whether continuing this approach is prudent or a great opportunity missed.

UTB!

Chris Wilder said in his interview: we won't be signing million pound players. He elaborated by saying, that's not me having a dig at the board. The package of fee, wages, signing on fee etc for Taylor would be above 1m I'd imagine.

James Vaughn. Sorry to be like a broken record, but the lad can score for fun in League 1 and his team are in the bottom four and most likely to be relegated. We should be/must be whispering in his (and his agent's) ear, saying "do you want the chance of League 2 or the chance the Championship next season ?".

So could Leon Clarke before he joined us

Never got going has he, been unlucky with niggling injuries, but hasn't taken his chance when he has been fit.

Would like to keep him though, move him on when we are at the next level.

i see that comment a bit differently i thought he was having a dig at our board he knows theres been speculation about taylor gregory and others on these boards but see no reason we couldnt get both hanson on a permanent and another striker on loan washington would be my pick there more importantly i feel is the need for a strong commanding centre back to come in

Yep. not denying that Treeton, not sure what has gone wrong with Clarke

He needs a run of games not 1 game and 20min here and there. Same could be said of Lavery. But for some reason we don't seem to be able to do that. Only Sharp seem to get that run of games(not that he shouldn't) but even Sharp can go quite a few games without scoring.
McNulty on the other simply is not good enough and shouldn't be anywhere near the Match day squad.

if clarke is part of the deal were not spending that much and a wage for a wage so surely weve got to speculate more even a move for vaughan as well as hanson wouldnt cost too much and could be the difference between automatic and play offs
we should do automatic with what we have now
weve been the best team in this league once we got going after game 5

once carruthers and Wright is back the young centre half fitted in and 2 more to come this panic over a defeat will pass

I work with a family-in-law member of Matty Taylor. Tells me he is a cracking kid, down to earth, no ego whatsoever. He gets absolutely gutted when they lose as he cares about winning for the team.
But I'll tell you now he is on more than you think at Bristol Rovers as well as having written into his contract that if he is fit, he starts. The financial package to bring him to Bramall Lane will be have to be high.

Thank you Mr Taylors' agent. :)

Tell me this isn't right.... dear oh dear.

There's another thread on this where I posted similar...if the £300K clause is applicable in January and not the summer, I would have thought he'd have been long gone...something doesn't add up here?

We'll see later today I guess...

I know he's a different player to Luke Freeman but they have just got rid of him to QPR i think, so this is very plausible.

Maybe if we were still in the FA Cup, the cup our fans wanted out of, we then could've signed him with the funds created from it as I have said on many occasions, infact i only mentioned it yet again yesterday. :)

Perhaps his agent was sounded out and it was made very clear he wasn't interested in a move too far from Bristol or in this division.

It's not always a simple case of 'have a bid accepted, get the player'.

To be fair we made enough in the summer to make much more of a mark this window than we have. I hope we don't regret pushing the boat out this time.

Just because he has a release clause that low doesn't mean he would join us. I am sure city will offer him double the wages we could this season
I suppose it all depends on the timings of the enquiries or bids made.

Say for instance Bristol City have only just come in for him, we could have done a deal earlier on in the month knowing we apparently wanted a player of this calibre.

Ultimately, we don't know the goings on behind the scenes and if we were indeed even interested in Taylor anyway but if we aren't interested in this sort of player I'd have to ask why?
