Just out of interest what is the latest with Bolton's financial irregularities problem in terms of a points deduction.

What irregularities? They have debts like every other club.

They have a one in one out transfer embargo but when were they accused of fraud for want of a better word ?

I would imagine if there end up in Admin - it wont be until the end of the season - not while they have a shot at automatic promotion.

All depends on how close they are to getting their takeover sorted. Last I heard there were numerous problems due to outstanding debt interest being owed to some 3rd party finance company, which meant they weren't willing to approve the deal. Or something like that....
If they don't then administration and 12 points off, I think?

Apparently some of the Bolton staff are not getting paid on time.
And there seems to be a secrecy about how bad their finances are and whether there could be a takeover.
As there is delay in filing the latest accounts there are rumours that their finances might be worse than they think.

The cut off date for going into admin is sometime in March.
If they go into admin before March their points deduction takes effect THIS SEASON.
If they go into admin after March then the points deduction applies next season.

On one hand, we'd never be lucky enough for a direct promotion rival to be deducted points.

On the other hand, it'd be just like us to get promoted in the shittest possible way. And it wouldn't get much shitter than scraping 2nd place due to a rival's points deduction.

I thought the rule had changed so it was immediate?

The rule changed after what Leeds did.

Previously points deductions always took affect in the same season
But Leeds were very close to promotion so they waited and held off as long as possible.

About 2 weeks from the end of the season they knew they couldn't be promoted so immediately went into admin. The FL didn't allow it and still gave them a big points deduction in league 1 and then changed their rules to stop this happening again.

We have posts saying we're already up,how we need to increase the capacity, how many of our current squad would be good enough in the Championship. Now we are moving on to going up by default.
What next?

Going out and absolutely fucking the shit out of our next opponents will do for me and fuck other teams, next season and a new kop.
One game at a time. Every one a cup final. That is what will get us where we want to be.

Should get points deducted for inflicting Vernon Kay and his manwife onto the world

More likely that we blow up and finish third DESPITE a 10 point deduction for Bolton. Probably pipping us to automatic on goal difference. Then we scrape through to the Play-Off final without scoring a goal due to a striker injury crisis, to set up the inevitable 1-0 defeat at Wembley (either last minute of normal time or last minute of extra time, take your pick)

1-0 defeat at wembley to Walsall, so they can do the quadruple over us.

Is this how far we've fallen, hoping for another club to get a points deduction so we can get promoted out of Division 3 at our sixth attempt?
No. It's just a possibility. One of several as the season unfolds.

To say it's not relevant to us is a little bit stupid seen as they're the closest rivals beneath us in the league. Of course we should be focusing on ourselves and that's exactly what the players will be doing.

We're fans though. What we focus on doesn't really make a difference to what actually happens to our own fortunes so long as we support the team, so why not take an interest in what's happening at other clubs? A few people considering what's happening at Bolton isn't going to negatively impact us, is it. If they players do it however....

I thought it was the other way round , and master Bates tried to pull a fast one by going into admin when they knew that they were getting relegated , but the FL , twigged it and gave them the points deduction for the next season ,
there first season in league 1 , but I'll stand corrected Sheff .

Yeh sorry about that, that's what I meant. Relegation not promotion.

The rules were changed in 2007 when Leeds and non league Boston both went into admin towards the end of the season but can conveniently timing it once they knew their fate of being relegated. Both clubs were hoping their 10 point admin punishment would take immediate effect for that season (as per the rules at the time). So in effect there would be no real punishment.

The FL league didn't allow it and both clubs were still given the minus 10 point punishment for the following year.

does anyone seriously want to get promoted as a result of a points deduction??
.. unless it was the massives of course

Not bothered either way. For me.... promotion is promotion.
It will be a distant memory in a few years and no one would even remember how we achieved it.
It's a bit like how no one remembers the bad run of results in Warnocks promotion season and some of the poor displays under him even though we'd ended up promoted.
