in March 97 or it could have been April we played Palace at home and were on a bit of a poor run - the club supplied balloons and the atmosphere helped us to a 3-0 win.

A defeat next Saturday will be catastrophic- we need the big flag balloons singing the lot - can't the club do something.

Also I suggest everyone has at least 5 pints pre match to assist.

I suggested the possibility of moving to the lower tier on the atmosphere thread. Get the chanters in one area and try to create something from behind that goal. It wouldn't take that many.

Worth a go?

Might also help convince them to keep it open for the rest of the season.

April 1997. The previous week there was an awful atmosphere in the 2-1 home defeat against WBA. Spackman came on as sub and he was booed by the Blades fans every time he touched the ball (5 days earlier Blades fans werent happy with Kendall's decision at Huddersfield to take off Hutchison to bring on Spackman as it seemed an uninspring sub when chasing after the game) but Kendall decided to sub Spackman 20 minutes later. Bob Taylor (one of Kendall's targets but he refused to speak to Kendall despite WBA agreeing a fee and giving him permission to speak to us) scored the winning goal. The club made a plea to the fans to give our players a full backing rather than booing them. It worked the following week as we thrashed Palace by 3-0

Fuck balloons

Seen that before fucking ace. Talksport the other day mentioning about players and money but saying players also come to the prem partly for the atmosphere. Are they fucking deluded are what?? These people have clearly never attended a foreign football match. There is generally zero atmosphere at English football. The authorities have seen to that.

I think Captain Blade has a lot to answer for.
I have watched his his pre match routines closely of late, as has my young son. We have both concluded that we find him to be dull and uninspiring. As supporters, we deserve more from our mascot!

:p

Can we put song sheets on the seats just so everyone knows the words? Maybe have Gary Sinclair starting songs off over the mic as well. Or maybe we could buy a recording of a game where our fans actually sang and play that over the pa?

I would love to be captain blade for a game, preferably against Wednesday!

Thing about atmosphere is it grows with the enjoyment , if your happy you sing more

I was going to support this with pictures but when I put sheffield united fans smiling into google search it came up no results

I think anything to try an help the atmosphere for the run in would be good , think you're right, Preston po game with balloons !

The atmosphere is rubbish but i belive its allot down to the sheer frustration of being in this crap league with about 50 away fans each game ,

I think unfortunately the wombles game may well be a bit cagey and nervy ( with the usual 7 away fans) but we need to show encouragement and Patience ( like we have been all season I think )

Then after that we have some big home games which will bring big away followings for pretty much every home game remaining ,
Think we will see a dramatic improvement in atmosphere for these games and fingers crossed 3 points every time !
