Wilder's Decisions

Which is nice to see until you lose possession. Then you see a right-sided CB who is way too far up the pitch to deal with the ongoing attack and isn't fast enough to get back.

Basham is too attack-minded to play where he's playing...And he's not defensive enough to stay put...So leave him the fuck out!

While I do agree for the most part, EEL is worse. Right now, I don't want him anywhere near the team.

Love the bloke and all he's done so far, but he's not exempt from criticism.

- Starting McNulty was a bad idea. There's a reason Bradford wanted him gone and there's a reason he's never taken off here

- Putting EEL in the center of defense is a bad idea. He looks lost there. It's not his place. Why does Basham HAVE to be in the starting XI? Is something wrong with Wright?

- Against a relatively big team like Fleetwood (who were very good to be fair) is Scougall the right one to bring on? He offered nothing for the entire half from where I was stood

Tonight was an awful, awful performance. The worst since we went 3-5-2. I sincerely hope it's just a blip and we can pick our heads up again, but the last 3 results have me worried. I can't tell whether we've been found out by others, or it's just us slacking off, but rest assured the fools that have been mouthing off about the Championship next season have taken a step back tonight.

How do we sort this out? Thoughts?

UTB

Absolutely spot on. You didn't even need the benefit of hindsight tonight to see the tactical changes from starting line up to the ht substitutions were not going to work.

McNulty was never going to impact the game. The one occasion where a loose ball was there to be chased which he eventually did after looking around his teammates tells you all you need to know. He either is too lazy or incompetent to do his job. Whatever it is, he needs to go.

Lavery didn't deserve to be criticised after the Gills games and more so didn't deserve to be dropped in favour of McNulty. Truly baffling decision.

Basham was one of our more willing players in a turgid first half, got forward a couple of times while Coutts refused to.

Scougall. How he still gets hailed as an impact player is beyond me. He looks busy, but that is about it. The game passes him by, he is weak, he has a poor first touch & offers almost no goal threat. Depending on him to change the game tonight seemed desperate at such an early stage of the game..

Persevering with EEL who is quite obviously on an awful run of form is also confusing. Especially if Jake Wright is fit.

Absolutely shocking from Wilder tonight although I'm sure even if he got everything right this fucking arsehole football club would've done the same thing - throwing away golden opportunities is something we've absolutely mastered.

EEL should've been dropped. He was fucking useless BEFORE he shit himself and gave them the game with that pathetic back header.

Lavery has done nothing to deserve dropping. McNulty has done nothing to earn a start.

But bringing Scougall on - wow. This was the big one for me. Staggering. He's a total waste of space yet he seems to insist on bringing him on because he scored a few tap ins early in the season. If you're going to bring on a fourth midfielder, make it someone good, or someone who can play wide, because if it's someone fucking useless like Scougall he'll just clog up the space the three good footballers we have usually dominate. The fact we had no quality possession in the second half is directly linked to that change. Nothing Fleetwood could've done could single handedly explain it all, that's for sure. We weren't great in the first half but we were infinitely better than we were in the second.

But after those half time changes, he didn't do anything when it was clear it wasn't working - before their 2nd goal, let alone after. Even if it was just reverting to our initial 3-5-2 formation and taking Scougall off. It was as hopeless as it could possibly be and he didn't change anything apart from putting EEL up front for the last 10 minutes. What have we signed Riley for? Then to top it all he brings Done on for Lafferty with 5 minutes left!

Surely, surely to fucking God he has to make changes now? EEL has to be dropped. Wright has to start. Even Hanson probably has to go straight in.

When you see a performance like that you're gutted our transfer window is over - especially with us not signing anyone who can play centre half. Maybe Hanson will end up there!

I was fucking furious after the Gillingham game but felt nothing in comparison tonight. I think I already accounted for this result the second the final whistle went on Saturday. As I said, it's just what this fucking football club does.

I agreed with everything until the bit about Hanson starting. We need to go back what made us successful and that's Done and Sharp with Wright at the back.

The top sides don't panic at half time and change to a formation they haven't played all season. They stick to playing to their strengths safe in the knowledge they are a good side and with patience will get the breakthroughs and win the match.

We are far ahead of where I and many others thought we would be this season but to see us slowly throw it away again from such a position of strength is heartbreaking. I hope to be proven wrong but other than the Hanson signing, which after watching EEL up front tonight for the last 20 makes total sense, I can't help thinking we haven't made the most of our position in this window.

Surely by dominating teams like we did earlier in the season, we shouldn't need to lump it to a big man weather that's EEL or Hanson?

Stick with 3-5-2. It's served us well.

Send McNulty packing. Don't want to see him again.

Send Scougall packing with a pat on the back (he's full of commitment and I like the bloke but he is simply not good enough and he isn't a wide player).

Play Sharp up top with Lavery (or Done if we really need to go back to basics for a few games).

Put Jake Wright in and drop one of Basham/Landell, depending on who is making errors.

Tell Moore in no uncertain terms that he needs to buck his ideas up.

No but the amount of balls we put in the box where the big centre half gets an easy header away has been happening all season even when we were dominating every game

The decision to bring Done on in the 89th minute summed up Wilder at the moment. What was the point? we needed to score 2 goals and Wilder and Knill were indecisive.

But a shit cross is a shit cross, a taller striker won't change that.

You are right and I don't want to see us play this way but by the end of tonight we were hopelessly pumping balls up to a centre half who was having a stinker. At least Hanson gives us some presence up there

Tonight was too similar to last season and Clough's full season, too many small players, lack of height, aggression, drive and leadership. Wright has to come back he gives the defence (and the team for that matter) drive and leadership, we'd also get the old EEL back, once we get the rock solid defence back (the EEL-Wright-JOC back 3 has played together 7 times, won 5, drew 2, conceded 5), the rest is built on that.

All those calling McNulty tonight, far enough he was poor, but fat boy was just as bad, except we had him for 90 mins, not 45. Don't think anyone comes out of tonight with any credit.

This is the point I'm trying to make.

We had a thing going for us, and it worked, but Wilder has fannyed about with it and it's produced some very crap football.

There are some questionable players in questionable positions.

What is he thinking?

Basham, O'Connell and EEL. Wanktastic.

Utter irredeemable dreck. Almost makes me nostalgic for Collins and McBombscare quite frankly.

Don't bundle O'Connell in with those two. I thought he was good again tonight. But then that's being stood next to Two 15 stone munters and claiming you're the best looking...

Nope I've just seen a picture of Devante Cole scoring against us previously with Collins looking on.

I said to a friend stood next to me tonight...

There were at least 5-7 chances where Hanson would've been perfect on the end of the delivery. Clarke was meant to be the kind of player on the end of this and it hasn't worked out. That's footy.

Hanson will be a good signing. And considering the crossing positions we get into, I don't think we'll need to try that hard.

Hopefully he'll still be playing in League One (back on loan as Wolves don't want him in the Championship) as this is just about his level and we've managed to get out of this god foresaken division...

Felt a bit for Wilder tonight to be honest. He's signed Plan B, C & D in the last couple of days and didnt have any options to change it really.

Bit odd starting McNulty but I can see the logic; hes the only one who hasnt had a shot at it (under him).

Has Wilders body been hacked by Adkins because that tonite was straight out of the Adkins football manual.

It was on a par with the last game of last season against S****horpe and played out in a similar fashion.

And hands up if you can remember a previous calamity style goal (2nd Goal) that was scored here, cos i can it was a carbon copy.

It's so frustrating. He's brought in two players today which are options for a different style of play. He seems to want every possible option in attack but the more he tinkers, the more we look like the team from the last few seasons.

Wilder shuts his gob tonight. Goes home and has a glass or two of whatever is his tipple. Goes to bed. Gets up tomorrow. Thinks about it with a clear head. Sorts it. We win the league at a canter.

Tonight was a bad night. It wants nippin in the bud and we need to win again asap to get that confidence and a touch of arrogance and belief back again. We will. Roll on saturday and dont beat urself up about it. Its just a blip and dont forget Utd never ever ever do things easy.

Easy as that.

We decided to waste 45 minutes by playing McNuts.

Can you?

Please explain, because I'm baffled. They're two VERY similar players...except Sharp is better, stronger, faster, smarter, more experienced and a harder worker.

?

Maybe not something Id have done myself but the thinking may have been along the lines of...

The other strikers at his disposal have a combined goal tally of about 3. In a team that ordinarily creates a LOT of chances. They've had their go and not produced and McNulty was the next in line.

Like I say, maybe not the right call but thats hindsight for you.
