Hi guys, City fan here.

Just thought i'd give you the low down on Hanson from having watched nearly every game he has played for the past 8/9 years.

Firstly i'm gutted, i'm a massive fan. He divides opinion but if i'm honest the 'fans' that criticise him really never look at the bigger picture. He's a 10-15 goal a season striker but he's so much more than that.
He wins virtually every thing in the air even against the tallest CB. Just to let you know when we played Millwall a couple of years ago he gave Beavers a torrid time which resulted in Beavers getting sent off.
If you do direct (which is allowed despite what some fans think!) he's win nearly every flick on.

He often occupies 2/3 defenders thus creating space for others. When we had Nahki Wells they were dynamite together and in in truth we have never got close to replacing Wells. You have Sharpe who's the best forward in the division imo and is an intelligent footballer so i can see them working really well together as Sharpe is so much better than we've put next to Hanson for years.
Another thing that is underrated he defends opposition set pieces & corners better than anyone else. Millwall nearly scored for 4/5 corners on Saturday and they wouldn't have done had JH been playing.
He's also got a better touch than people give him credit for and doesn't give the ball away very often. He's not a natural finisher but you have one of them so that shouldn't be a big deal.

The only positive for us is the support is so divided on him it's begin to get uncomfortable and it stops that. And the lack of respect some by some of our fans has been embarrassing based on his contribution over the years.
Some of the goals he's scored have given me some of my favourite moments supporting Bradford City over the past 30 years.

I'm delighted for the lad, he's a good bloke and he's going to playing for the best team in the division and i fully expect him to be playing in The Championship with you guys next season.

I'm sure he'll divide some of your support but for the ones that look at the bigger picture i'd be really surprised if he's not a big success.

I fully expect you lot to go up as Champions as you are the best team i've watched this season so good luck in all but one fixture towards the end of the season!!

City Neil.

Sounds like another Cresswell, he also split the fanbase but I was a fan because I valued his strengths.
I'll settle for that as it's something we really lack.
It opens up another tactical option for Wilder,
On the surface not a spectacular signing but it is a shrewd signing and definitely improves our squad.

I think this is Hanson himself bigging himself up.

Thanks for that, brilliant to read.

I did a bit of scouting work many years ago, and thought this lad was better than Matt Smith who has been at Championship level for 4-5 years.

Think Hanson is very underrated, surprisingly good touch, and a monster in the air.
I`ve seen teams sit off him & just let him head it on then worry about the second balls, not even trying to win it!

Glad you have confirmed what I thought, good luck for the rest of the season.
Hopefully you will be playing (and beating) Scunthorpe or Bolton in the play off final!

Appreciate the time you have taken Neil, couple of things, what is it in his game that splits opinion, and is it a 50/50 ish split, when he starts a game do you automatically send it high to him (hoof) or is it mixed up, feet and in the air, lastly how much money do your fans think is changing hands, leon Clarke been mentioned? Best of luck.

Think CW said to Andy Giddings at Radio Sheff today that no strikers are leaving the club pal

Good post. And thanks. As you've watched him sooooo much more than all us Blades, there is some encouragement here.

However:-

1. Sharp isn't Nahki Wells. Your ascertion that Hanson and Sharp may form a similar partnership, imho, would be unlikely. Sharp has never worked well off a target man. Not once. Not quick enough.
2. We have a formula. And as it stands at this time, a winning one. I worry greatly that Hanson could potentially upset the apple cart here. We are NOT a direct side. That said, having this option, a plan B from off the bench, is more than useful.
3. I have seen him maybe 3 or 4 times (live that is). Last time being last season at ours. I'll be kind and say his touch on that day wasn't great !
4. Our forwards are expected to press from the front. First line of defence. Hansons immobility worries me. We have had our quota of immobile CFs in the last few years. I for one, don't really see the value in them (immobile strikers that is). If the compromise is that he occupies 2+ defenders to compensate for the lack of mobility then I'll take that. Running pitch battles between CF and CB where is just boils over in to something akin to WWF, rarely favour the CF. This leads to player and fan frustrations as needless foul after needless foul is given against the big un up top. Seen it all before. Shyte. IMHO. Most importantly, possession turns over. Impetus and momentum is lost. NEVER acceptable.

I'll accept that he is a big strong awkward fucker that is genuinely dominant in the air. Never a bad thing, but if this is combined with an inability to trap a bag of cement, it becomes an unacceptable compromise. As such, jury's out for me.

If Tufty gives him a focal role in the coming months, rather than a bit part off the bench plan B role, I hope to god I'm wrong. Not sure the tickers up to any more play off misery !!!!!!

Now I know how Pinchy feels when he 'despairs' at our fanbase. The initial reaction seemed to be the right one, that of shock and disappointment. But then the self fuelled mindset of desperately trying to see a good signing, regardless of whether it is one or not kicks in and he's the best player to walk the earth. Oh well, I was on my todd with Adkins and Hammond, let's hope this one doesn't go the same way.

Must admit, I despair that we such massive fannies in our fanbase.

Hiya, first of all i've no idea what this likes thing is some of you are mentioning by the way!

My estimate is two thirds rate him and are disappointed, one third are glad he's gone. The third tend to be pretty noisy and of the keyboard warrior type, we all have them!
We've struggled to score goals for a long time now but have had a really good defence. As Hanson plays up top and appears all the time when he is fit, hes effectively become the scapegoat for that.
We mixed it up when Parkinson was in charge and Hanson was the focal point. We sometimes went direct as he won so much, we sometimes went short depending on who we were playing. It didn't bother me, we were successful.
We pass it a lot more now and Hanson has been fine when he's played but he's had a lot of injury problems in the last year or two mainly with his calves. His season has been very stop start.

We understand the fee is 150-200k so that's ok as he's out of contract in the summer and wouldn't have signed another due to being unappreciated by a section of our 'supporters'.

We are apparently not interested in Clarke and i for one am happy with that!

I hope this helps.

Yep. I get that.

But shall we give him a game or two ?

Or at least 45 minutes ;)

UTB

I'll give him 46. If he hasn't scored by then i'm going to groan every time he gets the ball. Similar to 50% of our fanbase with Coutts last season.

Edit... And Clarke this.

Over 8,000 posts, is that it? I'll take that...

Never said I got 'everything' right by the way.

You might have imagined it but I didn't say it.

Is that it? No, I had a squiz through the threads you'd started. I'm sure it's the mere tip of the iceberg.

I didn't think you'd said you were right all the time. Just wanted to provide some 'balance' to your patronising bollocks which gave birth to "Oh well, I was on my todd with Adkins and Hammond, let's hope this one doesn't go the same way."

And you're still a MASSIVE fanny.

Not in raptures about it, but lets see. CW for me is operating from more of a position of strength than his predecessors in terms of where we currently are, maybe he sees something most of us on here can't? If I'm honest, none of his signings have really had me climbing the walls, but his judgement has put us where we are, he deserves the benefit of the doubt for me.

I just want to get out of this bloody division.
