Those going mad about Hanson

Agreed, I always fear Hanson when we play against Bradford. He causes us all sorts of problems

It sounds a sensible signing to me, although at the start of the season if you'd have given me the choice between Hanson and Clarke I'd have picked Clarke based on his goals and performances against us. Unfortunately as we have learned in the past it doesn't always translate to a good player for us as well.

Wilder is doing a fantastic job, but he's made mistakes in the transfer market.

I think the players we need to sign are;

1) L1 quality, short term contracts (wright)
2) Probably good enough for Championship (Fleck)
3) Young and potentially good enough for Championship

Hussey, Clarke and probably Hanson don't fit into any of these.

It is quite enlightening to read the comments of all the wannabe managers. You are all entitled to your opinions, and your input has been noted, but I will go with the judgement of Wilder who is far more qualified for the job.

Adkins, Clough and Weir are far more qualified than most on here, having blind faith in any manager is ridiculous.

The reason things are cheap in Poundland is???..

What with us currently flying high at the top of the league, it may have escaped your notice that Wilder is 'the cheap option', with a remit to reduce wages.

Some argue that McCabe should go for it and get in one or two quality signings that would cement promotion, and be useful a league up...and he may still sanction those signings....but we know there are no guarantee's in football and only hindsight will prove whether this is another example of McCabe's, often spectacularly mis-timed bad decision making or prudent planning for life in the Championship.

One final note, it's the 22 of January...it doesn't take a genius to figure out that Hanson wasn't Wilder's no.1 target...hence the £1 million player quote ( maybe?)

Hanson was Bradford's best player against us last season. When the ball gets knocked up to him, it sticks. Something we haven't got. We ruffle defences and cause panic in the penalty area, particularly when teams are putting 10 men on the edge of their own box.

He's wank,a manager at our place is a bratfud st holder, says he's a lumbering useless lump
Lived off one good season playing alongside Wells
I love Wilder to bits, but I find this astonishing tbh

2no players who always seem to have a good game against us , consistent with there work rate are Clarke and Hanson. We are top of the league , Wilder knows what he us doing .

My view Hanson will be a good signing and a better bet than spending a £1m fee on a player , which could also be high risk.

If Clarke , Done go so be it . You defend from the front , we are missing boat load of chances , which does put pressure on us .

I am backing Wilder , Knill , and don't forget the tick in the box from the new scout recruitment bloke .

Additional pressure on Tuesday , to prevent meltdown .

Hanson if he comes , will be a bloody good signing . Let's be on side with this one .

Clarke has not worked out , we move on .

Basically, I thought this nice attacking football we have been playing had moved us away from a big lummox up front whose job is to make sure the ball bounces off them.
sometimes you need a hammer to crack a nut
teams come and put 10 behind the ball , it offers more options if you get a big lump disrupting 2 banks of four
it doesnt mean every ball gets lumped in, just occupies a few allowing us to filter through

Yesterday we had to put EEL up front for last 5 minutes because we haven't that that physical shit house of striker to put there.

Hanson is that shit house striker.[/QUOTE.

My sentiments exactly. The best way to bypass all those buses.Got to change some tactics for second half of the season. More variation.

Harry,

You seem to be ignoring that we totally dominate matches, away teams make no attempt to go toe to toe with us. We are top of the possession league, top of the corners league and top of the shots league. I agree that we are scoring loads of goals but we are missing more chances.

Our defenders seem to be struggling becuase the wing backs are too attack minded.
Teams seem to have sussed us out by defending deep parking the bus then breaking on us.
Playing such attacking football means the defence are vulnerable to rare counterattacks.

Wilder tactics are working well in that we are constantly the superior team playing great football
BUT we're becoming the Man City of league 1, we look good, create chances for fun but struggle to convert.

Wilder has experimented in several game recently by putting EEL up front for the last 5 minutes
And he DOES make a difference, call it nuisance value but his physical presence upsets teams that park the bus. We also have loads of corners most matches, we had 20 corners agaisnt Shrewsbury.

So when teams defend deep in numbers then I believe Hanson would be a great option.
My only concern is that in some games (especially away) he will be ineffective
But he won't be gauranteed a starting place and will only be used as a tactical weapon.

If we want to sort the defence out then we probably have to go back to 4-4-2 and then we won't be as affective going forward because Lafferty and Freeman will be forced to play as full backs.

In league 1 we have the players good enough to be postive and go for wins home and away.
We'll score loads of goals but we're concede the odd goal or two.
This style is much better than Clough and Adkins who had us playing like a game of chess.
Ultra defensive first half so it was always 0-0 at half time, then we'd risk it more and try to sneak a 1-0.
That's a good point about him being more use at home than away. The way teams set up against us means we have to adapt accordingly and if that means different personnel home and away then great. With the option of being able to change during a game it rally could be a great signing if Wilder pulls it off.

Good in the air ? I'll give you that.
Good at smashing CBs ? Probably have to concede that too.
Anything else football talent related ? Huge feckin no.
He is, bluntly bobbar at football.

But because he can win headers and handle himself, he will court huge favour with a large section of our support who will cheer loudly every time he gives away a needless foul. Of which there would be plenty.

We really REALLY need to be aiming for sooooooo much better than James Hanson. IMHO.

Hanson is pretty good in the air, but it's easy to play against him - and we did this 2 years ago when we beat them at VP. It was on Sky.

All you do is compete but let him win the ball - all you do is concentrate on the 2nd ball. We did that against him that day and he was......useless.

Not happy about Hanson and has been said about United before - there is better about if our scouts go and find them. Hanson type of player might be needed by CW & AK, but Hanson is not the answer for numerous reasons. The simplest reason is: go and read Bradfords forum - the majority of fans are NOT stupid.

Seen the guy play once. Can't form an opinion on that.

Fans are almost bipolar in their opinions of players and the team and I would suggest Bradford supporters are no different when it comes to Hanson.

Look at responses on here to the last two games, EEL is shit, the back line aren't good enough to get us promoted. Wilder losing the plot. I could go on.

If the manager wants him then its because he believes the player can add something to the squad, if it works then fantastic however, if he's wrong (and it happens) then I'm sure Wilder will admit his mistake. Just hope it doesn't get lost in the sea of smug "I told you so" comments from people here.

Most fans watch a match after being to the pub for a period of time . Not perfect for accurate judgements. Cant believe critics on here. Waited years to be in this league position and what do people do.....moan.Beggars belief.

I'd rather keep Clarke instead of signing Henson.

No problem with bringing Hanson in - as long as we dont revert to 90 mins of hoof.

He's a good option for getting on the end of balls from crosses and from corners, and offers something different to what we have already (much like the chief did when Warnock brought him in).

Not bothered that he might not be good enough for the championship. We aren't in the championship.

It isn't a moan from me - there are quite simply better about. I remember NW changing the team about when us and Reading were running away with it - NW nearly fucked it all up until he put it back to how it was.

I could actually moan about people telling others they are moaning - but we all have opinions.

Plan will be: sign him as a plan B, get promotion, sell him in the summer.

Not easy to sell a player who would likely be on higher wages than any League 1 or 2 team could afford.

If we can just take over the contract until the end of the season, he's a very good option to come off the bench. I can't see Hanson or Bradford being up for that though. Unless they want McNulty......We already have Clarke on a (too) long contract.

Sleep on it and repost in the moaning. I take your point it is all about
Opinions. Just seems hasty when we are having such a good season...Still we are all differant. However i do respect yours.

It all depends what you mean about being hasty.

Yes we are having a good season - all based around the 3-4-1-2 formation we have played since game 5 or 6.

We may need a new striker, but I am yet to see any reasonable liking for Hanson. Clarke/Sharp has been tried 3 times now with not a lot of success when we start with it.

The fear of a lot is what Hanson brings......potential for hoofball, which will not go down well with a lot of fans.

Again, an opinion - we don't need another striker (like Hanson) - we need the defence not to concede. If the defence had been on their game yesterday we would have won - comfortably.

What appears to be creeping in now, is other managers are sussing us out - we have to now second guess these teams.

Fleetwood (IMHO) is for me, harder than Scunny or Bolton. We battered Fleetwood at their ground - but they did on numerous occasions get at us with pace - and it's pace we don't seem to handle at present.

AK should be only with the defence on Monday and reaffirm things on Tuesday - the midfield and front two actually take care of themselves for a short while.

UTB.

Cant compare players are not like for like. One 6ft 4 the other 4ft 6

Wilder wants a pressing game. Hanson can not play like that. Simple as. As I've said, he's a very good option to throw on if chasing a game but not from the start. I also worry it will change the way we play (Clarke starting games already make the defence look for high balls).

Cant really comment until he plays. Wilder should really concentrate on preparing his team instead of spending all his time on this site searching for the correct ideas and answers.

We have to get out of this god forsaken league before we can look at better quality players if that means bring in Hanson to bully us out so be it. We've got to stay behind wilder & knill they know what is required utb

Remember four games in when there were fans spouting bollocks about Wilder being out of his depth? Saying such claptrap as he didn't have the experience managing a big club, he looked panic stricken, all the usual over exaggerated bullshit? That's what this thread reminds me of

Wilder has brought about a fantastic turnaround, he got the players playing and he had us believing again (some of us still are but call me an old romantic if you like). He's known for his bluntness, his honesty and his no nonsense approach and that's what you're seeing here. We have plenty of possession, lots of shots, corners etc. but we aren't putting games out of sight. Wilder, Knill and the scout will have watched this bloke and think he can offer enough that we might be better. Wilder is always looking to improve and Hanson won't have been signed simply as a replacement for the woeful Clarke, he's been signed to offer something better when we need it.

Shipperleys signing was met with dismay, signing Chief brought hoots of derision but you never know, sometimes it clicks and hopefully this will. Give Hanson a chance ffs, Wilder and his staff are and that's good enough for this knocker.
