Is it just me that thought he had his best game for us today?
Still not sure why he was took off for McNulty...

Did very well today, and I've not always been convinced by him in the past. Can't for the life of me understand why he was taken off for that specimen.

Agree that he played well today but maybe Sparky has been doing well in training and CW just thought why not give him a go? Billy doesn't get subbed that often so it's not surprising that Lavery came off. Personally I would have gone 4-4-2 with JOC at LB and taken off Done, stuck Lavery and Duffy on the flanks with Billy and Sparky up front.

Agreed, he started a bit slow but he was involved in nearly everything good going forward. In hindsight, it was a mistake to sub him, McNulty was never at the races.

He needs to get a few more goals, (listening to Wilder he'll have to) but we shouldn't forget how many assists that he's had since coming into the side. Today's pass to set up Sharp was excellent.

I was prepared to accept that Wilder had seen something in McNulty in training. But that substitution totally killed any momentum we had going forward. McNulty was absolutely dog shit when he came on, with of course, apologies to any dog lovers.

Bringing McNulty back and bringing him on today. The first WTF moment from Wilder that I genuinely can't see any reason for.

He touched the ball once in the first 25 minutes but after that he played well.

In comparison with McNulty (seeing as thats what everyone seems to be doing) they both had one good chance each which forced a good save from the keeper. I thought McNulty would've scored but the pass to him was slightly over hit, meaning his angle wasn't as good

I never picked up on that so listened to the interview again and yes the criticism of Lavery Is there and surprising for me as I thought he played well.

I hope this isn't going to be Wilders excuse for bringing Hanson in as Sharps partner.

Wilder has done a fantastic job for us so far, which I don't think anyone will deny, but his interview today left me a little be"Wilder"ed to be honest. I wonder if he will be as harsh on himself for making the wrong substitution today bringing Lavery off, as he was on the players for not being at the races?

The substitution was possibly Wilders worst decision since August.

We had them on the back foot at 2-2 and Gills would have been delighted when Lavery went off.

Macnulty is not good enough.
My jaw dropped too,Gills were beggining to wilt and then Chris goes and makes a baffling substitution like that.

Me too...wondered if he'd had a knock? Other than that put himself about, won fair share in the air and lovely link up with Billy for goal. Also was our only real source of any pace. Would rather have seen scougall up top than mcnulty.

It's very simple lads, listen to Wilders interview, I'll paraphrase it 'strikers are paid to score goals' we were on top and 'should have put them to bed by half time' but didn't. Consequently he decided to give McNulty a chance but he couldn't take his chance either.

It's clear Wilder has lost patience with every one of our strikers except Billy. That's why he's trying to bring more in. If we go up I'll be surprised if any of our current lot are still here other than Billy and possibly Lavery.

He had just missed an easy header at the far post

Well that is worring as I thought Sharp and Lavery were starting to develop an excellent partnership, look at the first goal.

I will say again this seems to be a narrative for ploughing the road for Hanson to be brought in as first choice partner for Sharp....

Lavery wins a lot in the air which has surprised me as I didn't think he was that sort of player.

I too thought Lavery played well today and was surprised to see him replaced. Looks to have a decent understanding with Sharp and he's much bigger and stronger than I thought he'd be. Just needs to add that magic ingredient to his game..... Goalscoring.

He looked really menacing today, such a shame he didn't get to play against the defense he had tired out....

Lavery played better at Southend
He didn't have a bad game today but he could have been more of a threat.
McNuts has two chances and both were on target. Not sure what else you want from a striker who hasn't played very much.
We should have buried them today but a spell of dreadful defending didn't help any.
Wright needs to be in the side to carry out the defensive game plan

Thought Lavery played well today, wrong decision from Wilder to take him off IMO. Didn't think McNulty looked bad when he came on though.

Shocking decision by CW today. We were building momentum and clearly looking to press and he takes him off. Poor game management. Far more in-effective players on the pitch today (including Billy) so disappointed for him that he didn't get the chance to build on the momentum he had helped create. CW taken a lot of plaudits this season and rightly so but that was a very poor decision.

Lavery needs to be persisted with. He has shown plenty in the handful of appearences he has made so far. Clearly Wilder rates him highly or he'd be wearing number sixty fucking nine rather than Number 9 !!!
No problem with him having a deeks at McNulty, but there's something not right there as no-one wants to keep him.
I'd get shot of him and maybe Done as well and bring in a CB. We have more than enough in midfield with Carruthers and Riley added and enough creativity to service Sharp and Lavery and even Clarke. Freeman is doing us proud and EEL and his fellow muskateers are chipping in as well.
Totally not impressed with Hanson and "Trust in Wilder" is nothing more than an excuse to bottle having an opinion. Yes he's doing superbly but he's not perfect and yesterdays substitutions clearly showed that.

He was involved in both goals:rolleyes:
Well done to him, it was a good pass to Sharp and Freeman reacted well from a saved shot from him, but I still feel he was missing for most of the game.
We drew a game we should have won, we can't be giving a blind eye on overall perfomances. Sharp used to play too deep and end up on the wing, Clark can win headers but who do they go too ect.
The game is played for 90 minutes, if we are going to go up and stay up everyone is going to have to play constantly better throughout the 90 minute.
I don't even mind Lavery (I just wouldn't have single him out as having a great performance yesterday), I just think that he could have played overall better and I hope he thinks the same or he has set himself a low celling.

Looked decent and to be honest thought McNulty put himself about when he came on

Both Lavery and McNulty need to learn to make the right runs in the box and Freeman/ Duffy and left wingback need to learn what these runs are.

Personally I think yesterday was better suited to Done up front

He's gradually improving and will hopefully be fully firing come the end of the season. He needs game time after missing the start of the season.
