Don't want this to turn into a negative thread, or be accused of "anti-Bladeness," but as a few others have pointed out we might be getting a little bit ahead of ourselves. "Can we win back to back promotions" & "what would your line up be for the Wednesday game" would be prime examples of this.

Now don't get me wrong, I do expect us to go up this season, we're playing brilliantly, have goals coming from all over the pitch and have some real momentum behind us right now. This combined with the fact that most of the top teams still have to play us at BDTBL bodes well for the rest of the season.

Just keep in mind that we are only at the half way stage of the season, so far we've done fairly we'll with injury's & suspensions (long may it continue), but there's more than enough time for that to change.

My main concern is this, you only have to look at Leicester to see how fickle fans can be. Ranieri pulls off probably the biggest sporting upset of all time, then 6 months later some fans are calling for him to be sacked. While this wasn't the majority there were more than a few saying his time should be up. Because he's raised the bar so high they've lost sight of where they've come from, league 1 to champions of England in 7-8 years!

Those getting slightly carried away will almost certainly be the first ones to criticise when things aren't going so well. And this will happen, as well as we're doing we aren't going to win every game from now until the end of the season (happy to be proved wrong). We will have a spell where we go 2-3 games without a win, maybe even drop down a place or 2. So please just remember how far we've come ourselves in only a few short months, and lets just take it 1 game at a time...

If we as fans think about anything other than the next game, the team simply won't get promotion, there's no doubt about it.

My only concern is Walsall next. If we treat every game as an fa cup final then we'll give ourselves a better chance. Besides like Southend we owe em one......

I agree, what we say on here will have zero effect on how the team performs and the results obtained.

But (as the OP mentions) it does effect the mindset of the fans and therefore the crowd and could lead to negativity if / when results don't go our way.

Edit: having said that, each to their own and I'm not going to stop anyone getting carried away and enjoying themselves.

After the first 4 games of the season several threads verged on dispair, now we are too far in the other direction?
Enjoy the season and lose the fear.

Agree with the OP

But the important factor is NOT what the fans think
It's what the manager and players think.

Fortunately for us Wilder and Knll have previous.
It was only less than 12 months ago they were running away at the top of league 2.

So the omens are great that our team will stay focussed and know there's still plenty to play for

Firmly agree; we went to Southend and whilst a great win, if they had scored a second when they were on top and we were rocking slightly, who knows? I like the cricket analogy that Boycott uses; look at the score, add on two wickets, then how does it feel? For us this means, lose next two games, BWFC and SUFC both win their next two; how does it feel? We are in an awesome position but let's not be like Wednesday and sound arrogant, it just comes back on you. Saying all this, I feel 100% certain CW gets it too.

To quote Kevin Gage, "It's time to believe in this team." I know we are all naturally scaredy cats because of our previous, but our form and results (55 points from last 66) suggests we should cast off the doubts for once. We really do have a very good team and management team and there is no reason whatsoever to worry about what lies ahead so please relax and enjoy the next few months. Will we hit a sticky patch?, probably yes, but it would only be something like we had against Charlton then Walsall. We have excellent cover around the pitch to cover for suspensions and injury , so we are well equipped for promotion. UTB!

As I've said elsewhere, a number of games ago everyone pointed out how much tougher Scunthorpe's run of games was compared to ours. Not that we aren't where we are on merit, but that short spell of easier fixtures will even itself out and we have a very difficult run of games ahead of us. The four point gap could turn around in no time.

With that out of the way, this isn't an "in and around the pack" situation where we hover in or just outside of the play-offs hoping to pick up some star signings to make a late surge. We're not dreaming any more by thinking that we have the ability to win this division. We're not pretending that McEveley or Flynn are deep down good enough to get us up. We're doing it out there on the pitch and have some of the division's top players.

Just got to try and enjoy the ride and hope it continues as is.

If we were in any doubt about not counting chickens, I seem to remember we used to sing "One goal at a time, Sweet Jeffrey" in 1979.

We all knew Bourne was going to get a hat trick at the Sty and we'd definititely go up as champions.....

There were two bulls in a field an old wise one and a young eager one.

At the other end of this large field there were twenty or more cows.

The young bull said to the old bull.........lets run over to those cows and shag a couple..........the old bull said no will walk over and shag them all one at a time.

"Yesterday's gone, United
And tomorrow may never be mine
Lord help me today
Show me the way
On game at a time"

Can we sing this on the Kop?

Agree but the most fickle and vocal will remain fickle and vocal whatever we post on a message board. If we don't go up this season there will be plenty of idiots screaming for Wilder's head. That's football I'm afraid. Ask Rob Page.

Ricky, I think if Wilder and the players think anything other than the next game the team simply won't get promotion, theres no doubt about that, what difference does it make what we think or say that will make any difference? I personally do not go overboard and talk like we are up but I as a fan have never gone along with the " one game at a time theory ", no arrogace from me just enjoying whike it lasts!

Agree. Let's be honest about now good we are this season, and let's keep hoping, let's keep going. But let's also avoid the foul stench of deluded pork :)

Oh,come on everybody.you all know in your heart of hearts that this is the year and we will be promoted.Stop sitting on the fence.I am quite happy having my head up in the clouds where it's going to remain.

But did he drink their beer?

Football is strange.

On the face of it Oldham have been terrible this season but I was looking at their results and their run in has been horrific.

Think they've already played the top ten teams all away.

Just has to be the next game is the most important

Forget next Month, March, or April. Walsall and 3 points is all that matters

There's a lot of nonsense bandied around about standards in different leagues. All teams go through changes in fortunes and form, and a top 6 team in form in League 1 is more than capable of seeing off a team from the Championship that's not in form. It's about consistency, teamwork, hard work, fitness levels, motivation and key personnel capable of making a difference. Clearly we have a fair representation of all these factors now. Our subs bench gives a fair indication of where we are now. Let's not forget where Barnsley were this time last season, and where they are now. We have to accept that the last time we were in this position we were overly dependent on one player; some would argue that we are similarly dependent on Billy, but I don't believe so. Bristol City walked this league by being a very powerful physical team. We are certainly not that, but a much better balanced footballing outfit than they were. I'm not going to get carried away, but this current squad under Chris Wilder is very good and well capable of finishing top with points to spare. Anyone who thinks we would then not make an impact in the Championship is either a pessimist or maybe just a long-term sufferer who's lost some of their capacity for objective thinking.

Wise quote but I dont know any bulls !

Was that the Supremacy?

Agree with the OP and caution. But I've looked at the remaining fixtures and have a strong feeling that we will win 10, lose 3 and draw 6 of these. That would be enough to leave us with 95 points - surely enough?

I am just waiting for the first South yorkshire 100 points wankfest should be along before the end of the month .
