Wilson gone. Any pickings ??

A daft sacking compounded by the fact there was no replacement. In my line of work it's like sacking the project manager before go-live and putting the admin bod in charge.

Our recent history suggests it is unwise to let good players or a manager go if you haven't identified a decent replacement. Be proactive, not reactive.

If there is a job available for him, AND WILDER WANTS HIM, then get him in.

Funny you should mention that...

This thread just makes me realise how much baggage we have been lugging around in the previous 5+ years.

Time to leave it all behind us now and trust Sir Chris to make the right decisions to move us onwards and upwards

As for 2012: did you know O'Halloran was going to be hopeless? What about Porter and Cresswell? How many forwards do you want?

Given we have a few suggestions from some posters on here on trimming the options up front, worth recalling that after in 2012 we went into the end of the season with Evans, Cresswell, Porter, Hoskins, O'Halloran and Beattie as our options up front. Wilson built in a lot of strength in numbers, rather than having strength in quality (and in Hoskins & Beattie chose to gamble on two players with questionable fitness). I actually think that overall the 5 in our squad now are stronger overall.

We need to look forward not back. No Ched and no Morgs.

You could argue on that basis that we shouldn’t have “looked back” to an ex player for our managerial appointment . Or that we shouldn’t have looked back to bring Deano home in 97 or Keith Edwards before him.

I don’t think re-employing someone who has worked for the club is necessarily looking back. It’s about considering whether someone has the attributes that can help take the club forward regardless of any previous association. For me, Evans would be better than most of our striking options (might struggle to displace Lavery on current form but would still be handy as an option off the bench). Morgan on the other hand, would be a sentimental move and whilst I wish the bloke well, I think it would be a mistake to bring him back.

I guess they didn't anticipate:
a) Ched getting sent down
b) The subsequent capitulation from a shattered squad
c) Wednesday's unbelievable form at the end of that season
d) exactly how bad Beattie (and OHalloran) would be

It was just one of those perfect storm moments for me; I don't blame anyone at the club for getting Beattie and Hoskins in - everyone was excited for Beatties arrival and Hoskins had some good reviews.

and e) Wednesday's last match being against the worst Div.1 side ever

....whose name escapes me

Oh I absolutely do. It was clearly visible early on that Beattie's body just wasn't up to it, and Hoskins had had a career of injuries that makes James Wallace appear virtually healthy in comparison. Along with O'Halloran, we signed three risks when all we wanted was one above average striker.

Shame we sold Jordan Slew...

So it's the final nail in Chesterfields coffin then. They won't find a better more experienced manager than Danny at this stage and they are in dire straights financially so they're down!

Along with Rovrum.

And Donny and the Blades are up!

Put your money on that now!

I've just put your money on it. All or bust now. ;) Best of luck, looks good though

Gary Caldwell as replacement is a very strange one. I fancied Tony Mowbray to get appointed as he's been around a bit longer and has a bit more experience. Caldwell has the promotion behind him with Wigan but also a relegation, he also knows what a half empty new build stadium is like. By all accounts he's a decent bloke and he's played at a good level for most of his career so might have the respect of the players, be interested to see if he can do anything there with a limited budget.

Caldwell is a great pick up for them. They will play a lot of football and hopefully the might need a few local youths to help them. Reed on loan etc
