Our Chrissie is storming up the league table of longest serving league managers and I think todays sackings (Davies at Crewe has gone as well) take him into the Top 50, not bad as he's only been here for seven months.

Following Davies departure, there are only three managers who've been on the job for five years, Wenger, Tisdale at Exeter and Bentley at Morecambe.

The same impact any other random manager getting sacked would I'd have thought.
Slight difference in that it's a local club so there could be some business to be done with the new manager, ins or outs, which would be less likely if it were Yeovil but other than that, not much.

Bit too late for Chessy IMO. They've stood and watched Mansfield bring in Evans, who's already started to make an impact and sacked Wilson at a time when loads of managers are being sacked, reducing their chances of getting someone decent in. They'll do well to get anyone in who can make an impact.

And their financial position is public and perilous so they aren't going to attract a manager above any other club looking.

Some in league 2 would be a more attractive proposition.

If they've had to pay some of Wilson's contract I take my hat off to that bloke. He will have been paid more money in pay offs over his managerial career than than he has for actually doing the job. His agent must be minted for landing him these multi year contracts.

Perfect opportunity to try and get another notch on his South Yorkshire Sackings card with the Rotherham job, before finishing his career with Donny Rovers.

Blimey. Call me naive, but I didn't see that one coming ! Wilson has his flaws, but who are they going to get who is more likely to fix them, and available and willing, half way through a season ? You'd think they might have given him the chance to get them to, well, let's say at least 4th with a handful of games to go, before they shat on him :)

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out for them. Who knows what a sacking can mean during a transfer window. Some boards/Chairmen will see it as a chance to impose their own choices and influence, particularly if they feel the manager has been wrongheaded and wilful. Other boards will just take in all the roads and draw the bridge up until a new man is in post (and any new man may or may not also insist on this, as a condition of taking the job ?). It can mean bizarreness, bloodletting and chaos, or it can mean ultra-conservatism and bugger all changing.

Whatever, and despite their current whiff of pork at the top, I actually really hope they sort themselves out and don't go down. Having more than Derby County in fully pro football is good for Derbyshire, as well as just for Chesterfield. It's presumably also good in marginal ways for hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, whatever--the sex trade, if recent posts on other threads are representative of all travelling fans--in Sheffield. There must be more than a few visitors for Chesterfield games, and a smattering of exiled Chesterfielders, who make a weekend of it staying in Sheffield, while the other half knocks around Meadowhall or the Winter Gardens, followed by expensive pies in the evening (possibly with student offspring living in town).

Keep all our "local" teams playing at the highest level possible, say I ! With one obvious exception, naturally :)

I bet a Wilder would like Morgan back pin some capacity.
As for any players, surely any new manager would want to all access all his players first before realising or selling any.

The older I get, and the more useless charlatans who come and go, the more I think that the vast majority of managers have very little idea at all what they are doing, and are getting away with it, frankly, either because their name makes them an employable brand, or because they are occasionally blessed with good squads who do the hard work for them, or because they always work with top-notch support teams, or whatever. I reckon this is true at all levels of the game, too, all the way to the top. In that respect, football is just a mirror of senior management generally, in corporate/institutional life today.

The minority of managers, however, who really DO know what they are doing, can make an enormous, positive impact, very quickly. Ironically, on the day he's been sacked, the one who really brought this home to me was Danny Wilson during his time at the Lane. Whatever his limitations, DW, bless him, transformed our style of play from unwatchable shite to something more than alright, more or less overnight. (You could make a song out of that ?) . The manager who has recently reinforced all the above for me, is Sir Christopher Wilder. :)

On a bad day, good luck to you Danny Wilson ...

Well yeah, I'd pick Ched and that Ariyibi lad if they're offering...ta very much...

Chessie have a one year extension option on Ched, and their chairman still thinks he can come good with the goals to keep them up.

I don't think we're (Wilder) interested tbh....I'd have him back though, be better than Clarke, McNuts, Done on the bench...possibly Lavery..but Lavery's shaping up nicely... :)

UTB!

Exactly, who the hell do Chessy think they are going to attract?
My only memorable problem with DW was the away game at Pigsborough (in THAT season) trailing 1-0 at half time he did absolutely F All to change anything and we all witnessed a repeat second half car crash, the rest is (very sad) history.

I have to say I feel sorry for both Wilson , and Morgs ,
Wilson had a team too good for this league , and it almost proved to be , but in the end circumstances outside his control , both on and off the pitch fucked us up .
In the second season everyone that could be sold was sold , and he ended up fixing and making do , his then top scorer being sold , that then lead to his departure from us , with the chairman hoping for a new manger type bounce , which only succeeded in us bouncing out of the playoffs .
Good luck in the future Danny although we'll only be playing against you and your new club if drawn in the cups .
