Well the JTW has opened again and we've already had the good news that the Blades have shown some ambition and brought in Samir Carruthers.

It's not improbable given the way we have been playing that some managers have been looking at our players too.

I thought it would be interesting to find out views on.....

A championship side bids £1.2m for Coutts. He's playing really well and a good age but he's got 6 months left on his contract and he's divided opinion among supporters in the past, with some still to be convinced by him.

A) What would you do yourself, sell, do you think he'd be worth more/less? How much do you think CW would get to spend on a replacement/do we need one now we've just signed Carruthers?

B) Keep him at all costs and try to get him to sign a new contract too?

C) What do you think the club's view would be in this situation and how much do you think they'd sell for?

I'd follow the club line and say "I can't accept a solid amount like £1.2 million, just give me an undisclosed fee".

The undisclosed fee could be 1.2 million or it could be 65p and a bag of Quavers. Life is about taking risks. Undisclosed ones.

Haggle up the price to about £2m and sell. I don't get this "we can't sell him, he's too valuable" bollocks, everybody has a price and every acceptable offer should be considered otherwise you end up in financial difficulties and with an ageing squad. I'd even accept selling Billy is somebody came in with outrageous money.

so it is a possibility
just dont think its neccesary , but then again if someone CW does fancy does become available

Yep, all the players with 6 months left on their contract will have their option for a further 12 months activated.

Fair enough but still doesn't prevent a bid. Perhaps given those circumstances the figure I estimated might not be too far off.

Personally I'd keep him on until the end of the season, we are in a good position if we get promoted he can then either sign and improved contract or he can leave and we can sign someone to replace him as a championship club.

He'd build a wall around Coutts.....and should Coutts wish to leave for the odd walk just to stretch his legs Coutts should pay a toll that would help repay the cost of building it in the first place.

B) I would try and keep him at the club with a view to offering a new contract. Make him feel valued at the club...unless (hypothetically) he's a 'want away' player in which case it would become difficult to hold on to him.
