Anyone else a tad worried if we reach the promised land we'all fall back down and the dream will shatter?

If we go up I'm certain Wilder won't take us back down.

I know I hate negativity. I think I'm just mentally scarred and disturbed after our last season there I only really got properly into football the season before, so have many bad memories.
 
People pointing out how Wigan and Burton have struggled but look at Barnsley..

Also bear in mid Wigan are struggling as always to build a fan base to get behind them and Burton you will remember are managed by Nigel Clough.

At this stage the championship seems pretty heavenly, most competitive and interesting league in the world in my opinion too. But obviously there is an even more godly place out there.

Just food for thought I'm well aware after our maiden season in league 1 things can flip over night and fall down before you get where you want, however there's nothing wrong with some Monday night escapeism on the back of some great results.

Honestly, genuinely I could not care less about the Premier League at this moment in time, it's a world away. Whilst we could do a Bournemouth I don't see it happening. Assuming we finish the job this season and go up then I expect we will be good enough under Wilder to finish lower mid table in the Championship and then maybe grind our way towards the playoffs over 2 or 3 seasons. Let's just get up this year and enjoy beating The Arrogants again before we look too far forward ;)

I don't want to see us in the Premier League. I suppose it wouldn't harm to do a season there, win the league and then go back down to the Championship with a wad of cash to keep us competitive.

I'd be happy finishing 3rd in the Championship season after season and refusing to play in the play offs, yet having a decent cup run every season.
 
All this chatter about UTD back in the championship is beginning to give me a semi!!!!

Not worried at all about the Prem at this moment in time. We've more important things to settle well before that dream.
 
Try with the light off, or make her/him wear a mask if that helps??
 
The promised land for me is The Championship.

Within two years scrapping it out at the top would be good also. But staying there and getting further up will depend on strengthening and ability within the squad to exercise Wilder's strategy. We won't last long with the squad we have at the moment, despite everyone jizzing into the same cup about how ace we are. We are ace against shit opposition - and we should have been doing this five years ago. Don't forget, if everything goes swimmingly, we will be facing Middlesborough, Swansea, Sunderland, Hull or Palace. Even if they get rid of half their squad, they will still be way better than us and then we'll have the promotion failures to tackle as well. We can't afford to go up and accept we'll get goosefatted every other week. A vague promise was made that we would receive investment and it would be a fine thing if we saw some real talent holding up the stripes in the close season, so we could have confidence other teams wouldn't see us as three easy points because we'd come up with the same team from Div One.

Without even looking at the rest mentioned by Pommpey above I just look at the fact that the Pigs have around £100k per week of salary on 3 strikers and they may only scrape into the play offs. I'd hazard a guess that between our 5 strikers we are paying in the region of £20k - £25k per week in salary. We have some players who may adapt but a a couple of seasons struggling wouldn't overly concern me as long as we could kick on and build from there. If Wilder stays on for 3-5 years this could be possible.

However this is first time I've even spoken about us being in the championship next season and I need to go and have a lie down.
 
Wilder will be a god if he takes us up. And all he'd have to do next season is keep us in the division by hook or by crook.

Honestly think he's the ideal man - has proven he can do the promotion surge-type thing like at Northampton and right now, but also loads & loads of experience of gritty underdog status, fighting for scraps amongst much bigger fish.

If we get promoted and can have a few seasons of mid table Championship, before kicking on, that would be fine by me. Bigger home crowds again, nice football to watch, etc. And Captain Billy Sharp to score the winning goals against the filth, completing a steel city derby double, with Billy shaking his fist at the unlean's kop in victory.

There are four main components to next season if /when we are in the Championship.

(1). Chris Wilder and Alan Knill
(2). The board
(3). The fans
(4). The players

Wilder and Knill will not be looking at consolidation. They are ambitious to take this club as far as feasibly possible. I don't think either will accept 'consolidation'.

The board need to show they will back their ambitions.

The fans (in numbers and vocally) will support Wilder and Knill in their quest to get the club into the playoffs / automatic.

Finally the majority of the players at the club are not good enough to match ours and the management's ambitions.

A great deal will rest on the board.
 
I like having a look on Porktalk, and I have noticed the mood about us has changed in the last week or so.
Up until last week they were convinced and I can see where they are coming from, that we would for the want of a better word F$#K it up or bottle it.
Comments like we are a one man team (Sharp), When our loans go back, EEL will get called back by his club, etc.
But now they seem to have resigned themselves that we could be coming up.
So now they are saying that the Championship is far more difficult than 6 years ago when we was last there ( which I do tend to agree with to a point).
And if we did manage to get out of the pub league we would be candidates to go straight back down. Someone even said he had a Blades fan mate who had told him that McCabe had said we would have £20 million to spend if we went up, que lots of Tango, Sid James, laughing faces.
They seem to think 20 million wouldn't even keep us in the Championship.
Personally I do think if we did go up, then we could potentially need a whole new side to stay there.
I have gone through our squad putting ticks against those I think should make the step up. Question marks against the ones who possibly might make the step up.
And crosses against the ones I don't think can make the step up.
Let's just say there aren't any ticks a few questions marks and alot of crosses.
Now this is just my personal opinion and I dare say a few might surprise us.
I can see us needing possibly at least 8 players if we did go up just to survive.
Of course any signings made this window might change that.

I've been looking for a quote where Wilder or Knill say that a season or two's consolidation in the Championship isn't part of their plan for United. So far I can't find one. Given we're untried at Championship level it will be interesting to see who responds and who falls short. This assessment will take a little time, so of course consolidation is a given. At the moment we're a little better than many of the teams we meet at Division 1 level, that situation may be different should we achieve promotion. Does anyone realistically think that changes won't be made? I ask not because the answer is obvious, but because the rate of change will take longer than we've witnessed this season. Hence the need for consolidation.

Of course expectations will go through the roof. Being a division below the Premiership will bring with it a hike in what could be.......time, decent recruitment, and the inevitable decision to put our necks on the line when it comes to finding those forwards who inevitably cost more than most other players. If anyone genuinely thinks that anything other than consolidation is an option then I'll wager that severe disappointment awaits you.
