So exactly who,or what is or isn't?

Keeper. Check.

O'Connell. Check.
EEL. Check.
Wright. Check.

Freeman. Check.
Fleck. Check.
Coutts. Check.
Duffy. Check.
Lafferty. ?

Sharp. Check.
Done. ?

Clarke. ?
Lavery. ?
Scougall. Check.
Hussey. Meh.
Basham. Check.

Obviously these are my opinions.
I would make the following observations. We desperately lack speed of thought, movement and incisive attacking threat when either Freeman or Lafferty receive the ball wide. It either goes square or is recycled. Too many balls in are easily met by the first defender.
The midfield three need to support the strikers much faster and with intent.
Our goals for isn't bad,but we have conceeded more than our promotion rivals. That said,I like the way we set up at the back.
The second half of the season will be a searching examination and I would like to see the following additions.
A LWB. I am not impressed with Lafferty and Hussey is Wilders folly signing so far. Maybe Clarke will prove to be his second, maybe not.

A CM. Fleck is showing signs of dropping standards. Coutts and Duffy can't run 20 plus more games without a vigorous ratter. We need competent back up or equal to Fleck.

We need a settled CF pairing. If not Billy and Done then Billy and who? Lavery IMO deserves a start at Bury to stake his claim. I would bring Ched back as it's a no lose.

A solid CB. We will get an injury or two here as well as a suspension.

Beyond that I think we are pretty solid.
I also find it interesting Whiteman has been allowed to go on loan.
There isn' t much if anything from the academy we can utilise realistically right now. The next few months will either set our club on an upward curve where the sky is the limit or confirm us as Division 3 also rans.
January will be pivotal as to which of those paths we follow.

I see things much the same as you.

New main strike partner for Sharp and an upgrade on Lafferty being key.

UTB

Just keep winning, sign a couple in the transfer window and we'll be just fine. No need for any big inquest, we're top of the league and grinding out wins so who gives a shit?

The manager knows what he's doing, I trust him implicitly so enjoy the fucking day mate.

I am enjoying the fucking day mate. Hope you fucking are too. That said we need to sort a few fucking bits out or trust me we won't get auto and you know what that fucking means.
Seriously.

I don't have a problem with Lafferty at all.

Good player, neat and tidy on the ball, nippy, and just lacks consistency in his crossing.

For all the stick he gets, he's got a goal or two, come close to more, got assists....he's better than Jay Mac so by that alone we should be happy.

Will he be good enough to see us up....most certainly. And that'll do me thanks.

Maybe a quality winger to allow us to mix up formation better....maybe another creative spark for when Duffy is off it....maybe another striker to push Sharp/replace others.

Whatever we do, I'm very confident Wilder will improve the squad at least.

I would give Lavery a shot at being Billys bitch.
He has a shirt with Number 9 on the back.
Why did Wilder give him that if he didnt see him as the main man with Bill?

Like you said....your opinion. But I don't agree that the current lot aren't able to get us up auto....clearly being top of the league now shows they are capable. As is the manager of keeping them there.

New players and continual improvements is desired....but only within the set parameters.

Really?
Lafferty is slow, always looks to play the ball back and his crossing is shite. Ok so he's nor a wing back, bit that's the system we play so we ned better. Why is it a problem wanting better within reason? I want to get the fuck out of this league auto, and Lafferty isn't all that. Freeman does a better job in the RWB position. We need a better LWB IMO.

I bet you £100 the 11 that started today won't get us auto.

Is it good enough ?? yes !! would be my answer. however I think we are light in the middle for cover, and my biggest frustration is the lack of speed in the final third. Be it beating a man or moving the ball with pace. At this level finding quality isn't that easy, usually if they are that good they've already been snapped up.

So you agree given those are 2 of my main issues.

Reckon Bob Harris is better than Laffery

Here we go again!!!!
New handbags out for the night!!!!!

I'm secretly hoping the thread takes off like the last one, cos it's new years, I'm at home with flu, and it would cheer me up no end as telly is absolutely dog shit.
Other than that...... no reason.

We've fucking managed it for the first half of the season - happy fucking new year - UTB's

yeah, pretty much SBT. I just sometimes have concerns wether better is available at this level and within our finances. overall I'm delighted with the change in our performance. I do fear we might have wait a little longer for the finishing touches .

This place is getting 'madder' every week, now that people have got their feet under the table.

You could have ventured your opinion to the point, but chose to be patronising and superior. Shame. Never mind.

If we don't address the few,but glaring weaknesses we will be back in the play offs come season end,and we all know what that means. A small, but sensible investment over the next few weeks would ensure promotion. We are a few tweeks from the finished article at this , admittedly poor level.

Of course....it's just that simple to find that player that is significantly better than Lafferty....a player already from a premier league club and played regularly at a level we are aiming for. Easy to find within the budget we have for league one.....and to cap it off, fit in with the good team spirit we have going without disruption!

Not heard Wilder have any issues with him either, and also arrived and improved results significantly as part of a team.

As for a baseless bet about the 11 who started today not taking us up.....really? Don't be silly. Can't be measured.

What can be measured is that the current squad has amassed 50 points in 24 games....if we are picky we could also not count the first 4 games as the squad changed around that time to its current group. So rather than daft comments like that why not use some common sense and applied reasoning to base opinion?

Eyup SBT yet miserable git. Am out with family on the expensive lash. Give it a rest till tomorrow and tell me if me and Pinchy owe you for the bet. Incidentally you possibly have a point. But tonight just live a little. Xxx

Where have I said "a player significantly better than Lafferty" ? I haven't.

Why would the manager voice disatisfaction with him? He wouldnt. Neither does he with Hussey. Or Clarke.

You have a problem with constructive criticism which is 100% my OP.
Enjoy accepting second best.
I don't.

Unless he's a significant improvement there's no bloody point. This isn't a computer game where players are rated out of 100, and you can just get one 2 points better to improve the side. At this level there's a pay off....adding pace might see less control or ability....better crossing might see weaker tackling or positional sense....you get the drift.

Any changes should be with a view to improving options for games like today. As it stands we have a settled defence that is working. A full back scored today....Lafferty has scored and has got in positions to score more in the past. Instead of casting him aside hoping to find a slightly better average in crossing or scoring why not continue to work with the lad as he adapts to playing this role?

Spend what money we have making a real difference to the squad....get something totally different of significantly better that what we have in a position to make the difference....i.e. Striker

And love to see where your criticism of Lafferty has been constructive

We've been good enough for the first half of the season so we can be good enough for the second part of it.

Don't get me wrong, a few additions would be great, very welcome and i'm pretty sure we'll get them but they have to be an improvement and not a bench or squad filler, someone ready for the Championship otherwise there will be no point really. CW will no doubt have this sorted.

At a push, an upgrade on Lafferty is the one i'd plump for because he seems to be getting in his comfort zone and not doing what he was 3 or 4 weeks ago. Not bad but he's the one I think we can most improve upon.
