Sometimes I don't think he gets the praise he deserves. He's got a terrific range of passing, he positively attacks the ball and (most importantly) he stands the attackers up well and never looks like he's going to get beat.

I thought he was excellent again today and hopefully there is more to come from him.

The lad was top draw for me in todays game. Quality signing. If he keeps on improving I can see other clubs having a sniff. He's strong and suprisingly athletic.

Lol i thought the black lad took the piss outta him today to be honest, he wernt the best of the three today. Dint win a header

Probably my favourite player. He's got great touch for a big lad (steady!), is quick, can pass, and can put a decent cross in too....... take note Mr Basham!

Got us out of jail a couple of times today too, one with a block and another in the first half when a poor back pass from Coutts put us in trouble.

yes, I agree with your comments, turning into one of wilders best signings. Over the ninety minutes he was Man of the Match today.

Sharp and Duffy ahead of him, in my view, but he was very good and getting better all the time.

It puzzles me what people see (don't see) at matches. There were too many sipping Bovril and discussing pigs in blankets at yesterdays game for my liking. How many lite uns did you eat on Sunday, so I know ?;)

Maybe if they watched the game and sang more, we would've been comfortably 2 up by HT. Subdued atmosphere yesterday until midway through second half.

Agree! My MOTM yesterday.

My MOM yesterday, performed consistently well over the 90 minutes. Totally agree with your comments.

Duffy was cack for the first 45 minutes though Pinchy, so I don't know how you could have put him ahead of JO. Granted he improved once we had taken the lead as did a number of our players yesterday.

One of the better players yesterday, can't imagine him not in the starting line up.

He was instrumental in us taking the lead mate. Always looking to make something happen; never hiding; never running around aimlessly giving the illusion of making a contribution. A quality player.

However, I do like JOC a lot. He's a defender, an athlete, a leader and he can play a bit. There's a great deal to admire. I gave him an 8 for what it's worth.

I remember the first couple of home games of the season, if I remember correctly it was Crewe/Rochdale and as you do in the first couple of games you look at all the new signings. Within the first 5-10 minutes of the Crewe game O'Connell stuck out like a sore thumb as being a defender a class above anything we've had probably since HM, I don't think there was a header he didn't win in that game. He's made a couple of mistakes but I really think he's going to be big for us in the next 2+ seasons

He's different class. A big strong no nonsense defender with the technical ability of most midfielders in the league.

Yes Basham, we don't want you bursting forward and getting into the opposistions box then laying the ball on a plate to Clarke for him to put it over the bar, not good enough, FFS.

True - thought the TEAM needed the Crowd.

Kop pretty quiet really - SS had a go a couple of times.

Problem is matt - home fans (everywhere) bounce off the away fans, and Oldham were pretty quiet too.

Do we (and this applies to a lot of English teams) have too many hang ups about singing?

I saw that and it was a good ball, though more of a sideways pass than a 'cross' if memory serves. From what I've seen, his crossing is generally poor and O'Connell's is generally good.

Have no problem with Basham, he had a great game v Swindon. Thought his performance was somewhat mixed yesterday. Made a couple of good runs, such as the one you refer to and the one where he tried to win a penalty, but also got himself in a mess with EEL that almost led to a goal and some of his defensive heading was poor too, in that a lot went back to their players.

From his first game away at Bolton where he won just about everything in the air against a big side I said if he's here long enough he's a future club captain...

Will get better and better and is another one that seems like he's got a warrior win at anything mentality... quality.

The lad is quite clearly getting better as the season goes on - the danger is if he becomes too comfortable with playing 3 at the back.

It is said CW likes 4 at the back WITH attacking full backs and if that is the future then who ever the 2 centre backs are, they have to look after themselves in a 2 instead of the comfort of a 3. Now 2 x CH leads me on to ELL which is where I believe he would struggle and where fans should be careful what they ask for for with EEL.

He's getting better & better (& he was very decent to start with).

Was a real brute yesterday - attacking the ball at times like opposition players weren't there. And a brilliant block which he didn't flinch from at all. More & more of a danger at corners & set-pieces too (to say nothing of his comfortableness on the ball, his passing and his willingness to overlap).

After Duffy, he's up there with Fleck as Wilder's second best signing. (With Moore not far behind those two.)

Thought he was top draw yesterday - won everything and dug in when it was hard going in the first half. I also had him down for MOM.

I appreciate Bashams input and versitility as honest a pro as you can find but despite what I've said elsewhere about not changing a winning team I'd like Wright to come back in.i think him playing between EEL and JOC for the 2nd half of the season would help the two of them develop very quickly.if we end up keeping EEL then that would be our pairing going forward unlikely but there the chance for a pairing for best part of 10 years there. I don't feel we could play with 3 at back in the Championship too.
