No there hasn't.

Yes there has. Billy Joel.
Newhall Road Attercliffe. I don't think an area can have lost as many pubs as Attercliffe for the obvious reasons of rehousing and the loss of heavy industry. I bought my father in law a couple of books called "A wander up the Cliffe" and "Another wander up the Cliffe" a few years ago and he could remember all the pubs mentioned (there was quite few!). Sadly his mind isn't what it used to be and now he is unable to recall just a handful.

Years ago when i worked in the restaurants up at Meadowhall, a load of us used to all get Monday nights off as it was the quiet night, and we used to have a regular monday night game of 5 a side up at the Pitz, and then have a shower after and head out boozing on the Cliffe, the one particular highlight used to be our regular Monday night trip to the legendary Dog and Partridge.......

Any idea who the golf instructor is? Looks like an old teacher of mine.

I know two people (now no longer living) who saw Bradman in that match through a hole in one of the gates as the ground was really full when the maestro was batting
My father took me to that match as a 2 year old. When the first wicket went in the first over, I started bawling and he couldn't shut me up. He had to take me back to Hollythorpe on the bus and then catch the bus back to Bramall Lane. Just as he was taking his seat again, Bradman was out. It was Bradmans last tour and he never forgave me !!!!!!

Looks a bit like Tony Jacklin.

They are used to stop a build up of gas sending the local sewer grates skyward in the street :D
Normally placed on higher ground - There is one at the gateway to Crookes Cemetry field
Yes, the methane concentration is too low to be combustible so the lights weren't powered by the sewer gas, the light had a small flame that drew the gasses up and into the atmosphere.

This thread could go on as long as the "Twats" one.
Wouldnt mind cracking thread.

1855 was when it was first used for cricket. Not sure when this was done. And then cricket finished in 1973, the final souvenir booklet, which I have in a box somewhere in the loft!

It would have been lovely if we could have somehow held on to that old pavilion when the ground was redeveloped. I remember walking past it when I went to my friend's house on Cherry St.

I think that's a much older incarnation of the pavilion. See the brochure above for the one you probably remember.
