not talking about Wilder - but some of you lads on here. Some seem to have made their minds up he's no good already. Based on what? A few games at the start of the season when he wasn't full fit and the team wasn't playing well?

When he's played as many games as Matty "mad dog" Done we'll be in a better position to judge him.

Play Lavery instead of either of them!

From what I've seen he hasn't offered much yet, but you're right.

It does feel a bit more difficult to empathise with, and give time to, a player who has played for so many clubs and has been followed by rumours regarding his attitude (not that they're necessarily true). Lavery doesn't seem to have offered that much so far, but you get the feeling that he'll be here next season.

I'm not saying that it's not unfair on Clarke, but I do think that's why people are a little less patient with him.
 
Yes he has had injury issues.
Yes he's got all the boxes ticked as a very good marksman at this level.

Does he fit Wilders modus operendi?
He clearly thought so or wouldn't have signed him.
Me? I humbly beg to differ.

Ched time,and yes maybe Lavery,but frankly I'm a Done man.
Give me that runaround and the amazing results it's brought so far.

Mend broken not it's don't if it.
 
I've not written Clarke off. I happen to think he's a good player at this level (his record proves it) but I do have some concerns about how he fits into the team.

Sharp will play every game, so it all boils down to who partners him and who is the best partner for him...Clarke and Sharp as a partnership don't look right (or haven't so far). There's time for that to improve, but I expect that Lavery is edging in front of him at the moment.

Long old season though, he will get opportunities.
 
He's doing Ok. Others are doing better thats all. Its nice to have an option like him if the way a game is going requires it.
 
He's a poor mans Carl Asaba, or a decent Michael Higdon. Either way, he's not much cop.
 
Nah, give Lavery a go, he's fucking ace at stopovers.

In case you hadn't noticed, Clarke started 3 games recently. We lost 2 and drew 1 and he didn't score and played poorly in each match.

We still haven't won with him starting.

Whereas our record with Done starting is superb.

Do you not understand that at this point it may be more than a co-incidence?

Not writing him off, but he seems more of a guy who is suitable as a big fish in a small pond. At Bury he was the man and here we have many and he doesn't seem to work harder than Billy or Done to displace them.

When he joined, in my mind he was always a sub so nothing has changed where I am concerned.
 
I for one particularly like the four camps we have:
  1. Billy isn't shit, he's our captain and main goalscorer
  2. Done isn't shit, he brings a lot to the team
  3. Lavery isn't shit, he brings something different to the team
  4. Clarke isn't shit, he needs to be given a chance.
Pick yer group, Bladeys! Which is it gonna be? We're nothing if not a positive bunch, bigging up our favorite front men!
 
You know, I've always been one to weigh in and criticise the team selection on message boards when I think it's merited, but I tend to do that when the team is not doing so well. I was doing it at the start of the season, for example.

But I genuinely can't understand why people keep banging on about bringing in Clarke and signing Evans when the Sharp-Done partnership is going so well and this manager has proved to us all that he knows what he's doing. I think it's odd.

I know we have disagreed elsewhere but this is my feeling with the possible exception of the Ched thing. I'd even sign up for having Evans back if it meant Wilder was in charge of it. Right now if Wilder thinks it is right then it is.

Wilder has a great ability to know when to use players and quickly change it when it doesn't. Bringing Lavery on the other night changed things. I didn't see that with Adkins or Clough. He used Clarke against Chesterfield and he was class. It hasn't always worked but I think there is more to Clarke than just being a lump up too. He may not be first pick but over a season he will be required.

When you are winning games, the one thing you don't do is change it unless you have to.

Because your average footie fan's default position is striker - goals = shit player.

Personally I don't care if Done doesn't score for the rest of the season, as long as Billy and the rest do and we win.
Seems to me that at the moment Done and Sharp fit the way that CW wants the team to play. I'm sure Lavery and Clarke will get more opportunities but like seanbeenstattoo said, if it ain't broke..............
 
I'm of a mind that we should probably leave the front two as is. Done's efforts and runs creates chances for us, and so he shouldn't necessarily be judged on goals alone. Particularly when we're scoring from all over the pitch.

Lavery on the other hand is definitely forcing Wilder's hand with some impressive stuff off the bench.

Finally, I still think it's folly to write off Clarke given how many wrote off the likes of Coutts and Freeman. And for that matter, Duffy, Wilder, Fleck and more at the start of the season.

As anyone who's read a post I've written about our midfield in the last decade will know, I'm very big on end product, and normally I'd be all over Done - but for once the team has a non scoring striker and is winning anyway. That's all that counts.

FWIW I think Done will start scoring again and will end up with 10-15 if he keeps starting. He keeps getting himself in good positions, first thing is, you've got to be there. I'd be more concerned if he wasn't. CW said in a recent interview that he "just needs one to go in off his shin".

Fan's look at the negative. Oh he's missed a sitter when he was one-on-one in the first half v Swindon. I also look at his movement and great run he made so that Duffy knew to play that ball.
 



This was when I first began to question Wilders judgement and Clarkes value to a high pressing, quick tempo style of play.
For anyone who hasn't seen him play, transfer this level of enthusiasm onto the pitch and you've pretty much nailed it :(
