We have a striker lined up and it's not Ched. Said player was close to signing in the summer but chose another L1 club over us more money. Player hasn't settled at his new club last time I looked he'd only scored 3 so not that prolific. A deal is in place but as always things could change. Think he can play as a winger too and is well known to Tufty

Holmes isn't a striker though. He's an attacking midfielder, left, right or centre. Signing him wouldn't mean we won't go for Ched or another striker.

If true, sounds like Ricky Holmes - in & out of Charlton's side after joining them over Utd for more money. 3 goals scored this season. The only thing making me think it may not be him is that he's never really been a striker, more a number 10 or 11.

A decent player although not proven above L1, a good replacement for Champan and someone CW knows a lot about.
 
If we're willing to spend money on Holmes that means Wilder is willing to find a place in the team for another attacking midfielder. If that's the case I'd rather us take someone like Emyr Huws or Martin Samuelsen on loan and spend the money on a quality striker and a centre back or wing back.
 
Think it's more likely to be Lee Novak, who chose Charlton above us for more money, but has struggled to make an impact down there.

He's a Northern lad, so ties in with the unsettled comment.

Ricky Holmes moved to Charlton citing it was closer to home, so I wouldn't think it would be him.
Plus he's done well, and is popular down there, but is currently injured.

Novak's only scored two goals though and while I would have liked us to sign him in the summer, and do think he'd be an improvement on Done, I think we'll be looking for better.

Kieran Agard would fit the Striker/Winger description. Not sure what the Wilder link is though

I'd take Agard, he fired Bristol City and Rotherham out of this league and he's got some pace. Having said that if Lavery continues to develop we might not need him but I don't think Wilder can gamble on that and with Chapman out we definitely need some more pace in the opposition half of the pitch.

I can see Wilder being interested in Holmes as he knows him well and would be great cover if one of our ball playing midfielders is out injured or suspended.

Maybe the rumoured player is Toney? CW had him a Northampton. He's on loan at shrewsbury now from Newcastle. Is he realistically going to break into Newcastle's squad?

Maybe a recall in January to sell permanently to us
 
I've just seen Ched at the Club shop buying a new Home shirt with his name on the back... He didn't get a number though. They said he can do that when he finds one he likes

Why not name him instead of dropping clues ?
 
And if it gets out it could scupper the deal. One member now knows the name so possibly he may pass the name on. He's been mentioned in the post
