The Colosseum originally had a retractable roof

not cantilevered in the strict sense of the word but there was nothing to obstruct the plebs' view of the Lions v God Botherers. Perhaps they found the original drawings South Essex?
I think Wembley is utterly wank on every level I know. Overpriced, overhyped, soulless and misplaced.
Britannia for me. Like how the away end isn't rounded off. Its not just a 'bowl' like Ricoh, MK Dons, Majeski etc.. Also, it seems to generate so much noise. Its horrible when Stoke score.
The council will build a mega stadium in the east end and become the West Ham of Sheffield.
Most new grounds are awful, Hull's is as boring and concrete as you can get, Ricoh is terrible. MK finally has seats in the unused top half, but it's still rubbish. St Marys and Pride Park did at least try to be proper football stadiums and Rotherham have gone for a mini-Emirates feel.
When Stadium of Light was built they just looked at a picture of Old Trafford at the time and said "I want that one"
If the Kop was rebuilt with two tiers it wouldn't really be a Kop anymore.
Stevenage and Burton are absolutely fucking rubbish. No redeeming features, poor locations.New grounds aren't my thing, but Stevenage and Burton are decent (both of which I think are new grounds).
Worst one goes to Coventry, hands down.
It looked like stone rather than concrete the last time Bert was there.For a one off purpose built stadium, its this one;

people were saying how much they hated concrete bowls in the thread " Why isn't Bramall Lane a listed Building"
well here is a concrete bowl....ugly isn't it?

All about opinions though![]()

Bert was just about to give you this link because it was mostly stone last time he looked. http://www.the-colosseum.net/architecture/materials_en.htmI looked it up and they used stone for the columns and concrete for the vaults. I had thought it was just faced in stone....
New York Stadium is actually ok for a new build, when I go to stadium MK I almost feel like I expect to see relay runners, running around the edge of the pitch. Chesterfield's ground is ok as well.
They are all better than "The Sty", put it that way, what a shit hole.
Hate MK Dons entertainment arena. Not a football groundHaving not been to the Emirates or Olympic stadium (I'm sure they are both better than my following choice), I'd say MK Dons.
They're all uniformly shite in my experience.
If United are ever fucking stupid enough to abandon Bramall Lane, I can't see myself ever setting foot inside whatever new construct gets concocted.
I agree with you about Wembley - its awesome to look at but as a football view its hit especially when put in the higher areas and the atmosphere is also crap.Wembley is a magnificent feat of architecture but as a football venue it's appalling.
I agreeI prefer the Millenium to Wembley it is just a pity it is in Cardiff but at least you can go in the City centre for a drink or have a wander round the castle then 5mins walk and you are there. By contrast Wembley is a right shithole with nothing any good nearby. Better view and much better atmosphere at the Millenium, feels closer to the pitch.
