Take Coventry City

They've built a brand new fancy stadium and negotiated to pay a high level of rent because at the time they could easily afford it. Now that they've been relegated with low gates they've can barely pay their bills. After paying their bills they don't have much money left for transfers and salaries.
So financially Coventry are up shit creek and will always struggle to compete financially against the other much smaller clubs in league 1 meaning they are likely to be in league 1 for years to come.

What do their fans want?

They want to do a Sheff Wednesday.
Do a deal so a new owner comes in on the cheap with fresh investment, contracts ripped up and overheads reduced. 0r they want to do a Leicester and prefer to stop paying their bills and go into admin so they can start afresh.

Although I can understand, surely this is a form of cheating.

Same with Portsmouth FC.
Their board has massive ambition and try everything to bring in the best players offering rediculous wages.
At the time none of their fans complained that they were bringing in star players on massive wages.
They had success and lived the champaign lifestyle. Again another form of cheating

I thought that was a very heartfelt gesture from CARD.

I really empathise with them, because no set of fans deserve to feel like this. It's ok saying " not our problem" but it's potentially everyone's problem. If we continue to sell out our clubs to foreign ownership who have no care about what the real fans think and are just in it for financial gain then we have no future.

It could be us next. I fully expect McCabe to disappear off the scene within the next 3 years. I don't think for one moment he would do us a bad turn but who will come in to replace him and what will they do?

A Chinese consortium next I'd guess. And then what?

I'm afraid this kind of thing is a real threat to all of us. Respect to CARD and I hope they succeed.
