Basham is not the answer, just not good enough on the ball.

The thing is, having Basham, Scougall, Done etc. all in the team is great when you’re in a tough battle of a game and you need tonnes of workrate. But after they’d gone down to 9 men, we needed players with more composure to make the most of it. EEL had the run of the right flank but didn’t have the technique to find the final ball whereas one of the injured players who went off might well have done. Similarly, Basham is good at battling and scrapping but when you’re trying to break down 9 men camped behind the ball, you need more guile. It’s a shame we got the injuries as the starting line up with the change of bringing Clarke on for Done in the 2nd have would have murdered them I think.

If all 3 are injured then I'd move Basham to RWB and bring O'Connell back in at centre half.

In midfield, does anybody think Brooks is ready to come in for Duffy? I'd be inclined to maybe give him a go against Bury on Tuesday night, with Scougall in for Coutts. Chapman can come on for either of these two but we are lacking a bit of physical presence then.

Personally, I hope we stick with the 352. The other option would be Bash in the middle and Reece Brown (shudder) at RWB.

Ched's more realistic for us. Would think about Jon Nolan as well, he seems decent and wouldn't cost much. He'd cover our midfielders, so is worth a mention on a thread about the injuries to Coutts and Duffy.

What about Paul McGinn too? Seemed to start well for them and scored a worldy early on in the season before getting injured. RB is a position where we could use someone better than Brown to cover/compete with Freeman. Not sure of the details of the injury as to whether that would be a problem.

Well in fairness I was shitfaced when I posted that, so it came across a bit more blunt that it should.

But I just haven't bought into the hysteria that's surrounded Coutts this season. Is he a capable player? Yes. Has he improved from last season? Yes, exponentially, and he is an integral part of the team.

Fleck however is the better all-rounder for me. A very talented technical footballer who can also be tough and combative when needed. He makes things happen. He's the Michael Brown to Couttses Michael Tonge, if you will.

I’d agree with this. Coutts has become a good player for us this season. Fleck a better one. Both are instrumental to making us tick in midfield but Fleck offers a lot more goal threat be it in assists or having a go himself (something I thought he could have done more of in the 2nd half Saturday though).

He played in the nonsense trophy against Wallsall and was by all accounts atrocious including the comedic contribution to one of their goals. He's also had some pretty grim reviews from people on here who have watched the U23 games.

I must agree with your previous comment about preferring 3-5-2 and if Freeman is out I 'd rather see Basham as right wing back rather than squeezing EEL into right back in a flat back 4.

Missed them in the second half,i think we can function missing just one of the three of Fleck Coutts Duffy,but you take two out and the fluid football takes a hit.

Thats why i am glad January is getting closer we need some quality cover bringing in,but where do you find another Coutts.........................black lad at Bristol Rovers would do.

Would you have a look in to Mr Coady again? - only 3 apps for Wolves this season, admittedly not quite sure how'd he fit in this current side - but I suppose that's because the team's been consistent and no need to change it up...

There are times when I wonder if Done realises that he has a left foot too. He scored a few goals for us when he first joined but they were mostly scrappy-off-the-shin-from-a-yard-out efforts. I appreciate that his workrate enables us to press high up the pitch but we need players who bring more to the party when we've got the ball.

What's the world coming to when we can say we missed Coutts! But we did and we missed Duffy.

Sorry but for me Fleck and Coutts are better midfielders than Basham (I'm not counting Duffy as he's an altogether different type of player) and JOC is a better defender. I know he tries hard and gives it 100% but he's only good enough for the bench if everyone else is fit.

However he could play right wingback if Freeman isn't fit. Played there a few times last season and was surprisingly not bad.

This injury-fest on Saturday does serve to ring alarm bells ( hopefully) at the highest echelons of the Club and shows how susceptible we are to a few key injuries.

We don't really have an effective replacement for ( the new) Coutts, or for Duffy and our creativity suffered on Saturday against a side who were just simply dirty from the first few minutes. They are a typical L1 side and could have ended up with 8 men quite easily, however, once Duffy and Coutts were subbed ........ we struggled to produce the "defence-splitting" play that we have seen in the previous few games.

The squad doesn't have much strength in depth in midfield ( apart from youngsters) and an injury to Sharp would be a serious issue at the moment as well.

Food for thought ( hopefully) in January .........

United 1-2 Peterborough: Done puts us in front, heading over Alnwick from 8 yards after the keeper had saved his initial shot

United 1-2 Fleetwood: Done heads us in front from a yard out

My view's not far off. The debut goal was the only notable finish and the two at Bristol City and the one at Notts County were the sort of chances which aren't falling to him at the moment as he's not getting in the right positions. I'd say, therefore, that your description of my description is incorrect.
