Is it really less than 12 months ago when we were watching the likes of Baxter, Hammond and Woolford lumbering around?

Only listend to the commentary and saw the highlights today but the movement of Fleck, Duffy, Coutts and co is like watching football from another planet to what we have put up with for the last few seasons.

Wilder deserves promotion this season on the dramatic turn around In the football he's brought to the Lane.

He's done great but it certainly shows what hard work the other morons made of it.

Sign good footballers, use them correctly. Not difficult. Yet previous manager couldn't do it even with bigger budgets.

There is no other team in this division that can boast a better midfield 3 than Coutts, Fleck & Duffy.

They are also better than a number of teams in the league above (the likes of Rotherham & Burton)

Think that covers it. Good post mate. BTW it was a joy to watch today, especially without a forwaed in the team.

What is totally clear is that Reed and Whiteman are 100% not in Wilders plans.....

Lets not debate this any further. They will be loaned in January and gone in the Summer.

Whiteman currently has Coutts, Fleck, Duffy & Basham ahead of him, all very experienced & playing well. No surprise that he isn't getting much game time at the moment, no surprise that he did today & probably will on Tuesday. Very promising young player, no evidence whatsoever that Wilder doesn't rate him.

I think he adds loads, like a much more talented Bob Booker, worth his weight in gold for attitude & commitment

His poor positional awareness means he can't quite play CB, and although I like his commitment and grit in midfield, his poor vision, slow speed-of-thought and frankly shocking passing lets him down. It makes him look like a 'headless chicken' type of player, which frustrates me.

That's just my opinion, though.

I don't think I can remember a game when there were so many quality diagonal cross-field passes coming from centre mid . I lost track of who supplied the most, Coutts or Fleck..Doesn't matter, they all came from blokes wearing red and white..Yes, the opposition were poo. And yes, it might all go pear-shaped. But I'm loving it right now. And Ive made the bold decision to enjoy it whilst it lasts ..UTB

Amazing many were hoping that useless twat Clough would be along soon to buy back the useless lump....whereas less than 3 months later it's an about turn and we are now hoping we can somehow fund a new contract for the bloke!

Still think he will get a few goals before the season is out.....I'm saying both him and Fleck will get 15 between them.

Going to make a bold statement here.....but I think the pairing of Fleck and Coutts could be possibly the best midfield pair we have had in the 30 odd years I have been going to the lane. Ok, they are in L1, but I reckon these two together would more than hold their own higher up where there seems to be a bit more time to play. Movement, touch, passing both short and long are very good, and to just tick all the boxes Wilder has got work ethic in there.

Joy to watch, hoping I see these two at the lane for a good few years yet.

Key thing is to be promoted this season though. We know what will happen in the summer if we aren't...

You're dreaming here. Coutts is a midfielder who will pass and keep the ball moving from deep. He's nowhere near mobile enough to get in the box regularly, and that's not the role Wilder gives him either. Which, incidentally, is why he's looking so effective.

"Much more talented?" Not for me.
Neither of them are/were skilful footballers. It's a toss up which was the more "technical."
Both of them have/had bags of commitment- but Booker more so in my opinion.
Booker was twice as "hard/intimidating" as Basham will ever be.
And I'm sorry but Booker read the game better than Basham ever will, hence his positional play was at a different level to Basham's.
One thing that Basham probably shades is that he is marginally quicker than Bob ever was- but, in all honesty that is like comparing a slug and a snail..........
UTB

Captain Coutts. Who'd have thought it?!

Amazing transformation. From the most frustrating player in the squad to Kev McDonaldesque peerlessness. And clearly got the trust of the manager.

Him and Fleck are playing themselves into the Div 3 team of the season, consistently good game after game, with commitment & bite as well as class and quality on the ball.

Btw - another thing I've noticed (from snippets in the programmes this season) is how popular Coutts seems to be with the other players. Regularly seems to come out on top when players are asked who's got the best sense of humour in the group.

Michael Brown and Stuart McCall say hello.

Yep....considered those two. But would say that we keep the ball better than we did with McCall and Brown. Granted Browns season of goals stands out obviously, but McCalls lack of mobility was also evident. Plus I think we play a different style of play to that of Warnock back in the day.

Either way....they are an absolute joy to watch. Fleck must have 5 assists and will get a shed load more if he stays fit.
