That is the average time a football league manager keeps his job, it is 351 days in the Championship.
I hope we keep patient with Wilder if and when we hit a sticky patch. Especially if we go up, no unrealistic expectations and pressure, the first season back will be a struggle.
We've got ourselves a good manager, let's keep him!

I don't think you will have many people who will disagree, if we do not make it out this year from L1, I would still say stick with him, the club as spent too many years a rudderless behemoth floating from one bad decision to the next.

I hope you are right, but look at the example of Wigan. Up as Champions last season, Gary Caldwell gets the sack after a dozen games this season. Some way to treat a new manager who got promotion in his first season!

They aren't skewed that much by Leeds though. Nine new Championship managers were appointed in the pre season, five have already been sacked. Absolutely crazy.

the Managerial merry go round spins so fast these days, the quest for results seems so high that the Manager is in a no win position the teams that have managed the lull and not fired seem to be in the Minority, hopefully we have now learned from our past it dose not work when you keep changing the Manager.

I think there should be a manager window at the same time as the transfer window operates. You shouldn't be able to sack a manager in this period, only for gross misconduct ie like Sam Allardice). If a manager 'resigns' you can only make an internal appointment until the next window. This would give managers more time to put things right. Too many managers have no experience of this because they are sacked before they can do anything about it.

Its a nice Idea, but in practise far from the solution, while the sponsors put more and more money into the game and TV takes it's very nice slice and all the other factors that make the game big money, nothing will change Except for Managers as teams search for the golden elixir, to cure there teams poor performance and propel them to the top of the league, cup or what ever the goals set by the money men, as the Premier league and Championship are so sought after, the business wheels are in over drive the pressures through the roof and pressure on the Manager and Managers job more than in previous years, a blip in form usually means a head rolls, as a club we are very guilty of this also as the pressure for us to get back in the promise lands becomes bigger, so does the expectation and deliverance of the dream.

One major thing we have in our favour is Wilder's *genuine* deep routed affection for the club.

If we are successful, he isn't going to have his head turned for a few quid more.

The decisions he makes will be with the long term interests of his club at heart.

He won't wait until the cameras are on him until he kisses the United badge pre match, or interview with Portsmouth in the middle of a promotion run, or talk about his contact on the eve of a relegation decider.

Its about the club, not about him.

Provided he's not stitched up like some of the others, I can see him being here a long time too.

The East Anglian clubs are a bit more stable and some of the others have lost managers to better placed clubs like Derby did with Shteve.
But yes, the majority seem trigger happy.

The past two seasons I've not called for the managers head at the end of the season after not gaining promotion, and they were two I didn't particularly like.

I'm not going to start now, with whom is my favourite manager to date. He feels what we feel, he wants to entertain us, he wants to excite us and he has brought our club back to life.

If we start stumbling midway through the season and it costs us the top 2, so be it.
If Bolton and Scunthorpe win every game from now till the end of the season 4-0 and we somehow miss on promotion with 102 points, so be it.
If Caolan Lavery bags 30 between now and april fancies a night out in Rhyl and get's sent down before a pivotal promotion decider and it costs us the league, so be it.

I hope Wilder is here long enough for my grandkids to see him manage the club and I don't even have any kids yet!

Problem being in league one for so long is that our squad has adjusted to being a league one squad, albeit one that is much better this year and possibly worthy of promotion. But even then I think it's league one-champ borderline and we'll struggle to stay up if we don't invest heavily if and when we get promoted.

Then if we do manage it it'll take another 2-4 years and a good few transfer windows for the squad to get up to a standard needed to compete at the other end. And that's assuming McCabe/Prince are going to be willing to be willing to compete with some of the ludicrously high bidding going on in that division in recent years.

I felt at the time wilder seemed a good fit. Knew the club and what was wrong and is desperate to succeed here. He's cut his teeth lower down in difficult circumstances and has never been sacked and was coming off the back of success unlike Adkins or clough.

I'll admit by the end I wanted clough and Adkins out - clough cos of the negative unambitious football and the self inflicted fall outs and bloating of the squad. Adkins cos he'd proved time and again he didn't know what was wrong never mind how to fix it. Wilder provided more insight in one interview than Adkins managed in a year.

Even if we don't go up this year we should stick with wilder. He's proved he can see what the issues are and take proactive steps to correct them, not to mention that he is working on a substantially reduced budged compared to his predicessors.

It's steady steps ATM but he is offering progression from game to game. We started poorly, he got us grinding out results and we've moved on to start regularly scoring again and showing belief to keep the run going

For me,as with any manager you make decisions when needed, right now everthing is good so no decision to make,dead easy, however, (if) we have a bad time around February and drop down to around 7th.and start to struggle with form/confidence and suddenly we have a bad last 6 games and pick up 3 points and finish 10th. with a couple of big beatings, what do you do then? I am not saying this will happen, in fact top two is onthe cards, but considering that scenario what do you do.

I should've added that. If Wilder has the support from upstairs (or at least doesn't have obstacles put in his way) then his achievements will surpass Warnocks if he lasts 7 years.

I hate how managers barely get a chance these days. We were relegated twice under Bassett and he kept his job both times. We didn't win a game till Christmas in 90/91 and he still kept his job. These days he wouldn't have lasted after the first relegation, or if somehow he managed to keep his job after that, after the losing streak.

I get that fans want results, but even Fergie was a match away from the sack at one point.

CW is a breath of fresh air, certainly the team is moving in the right direction after last year. But the aim this year has to be promotion, the club needs it, past history proves KM is desperate for it, that's understandable. If we don't achieve it I am under no illusions that KM will not treat him any differently than past managers. After the Hull cup game I was confident the following season would see us back in the Championship, but it went tits up. If we fail this year clubs will come again cherry picking our better players, fact of life yes but makes it hard to build a side. Warnock was probably given more time because we were in the Championship IMO. CW hasn't got that luxury and we have definitely been is this league way to long.Over to you Chris.

Even in those days Fergie was given a long time and was a game away from the sack several times but the Man U board held their nerve longer than most would and benefited from it. They understood what he was trying to do and appreciated it couldn't be done overnight.

I'd give CW three years regardless. We've tried pretty much everything now; big name manager, manager with great CV, Rookie ex-PL player. Hasn't worked. We've dropped lucky with CW, history shows that if we get rid of him we'll bring in at least three useless twats before we get a half decent one again.
