Paulinho Coutts

Looked a terrible player when I first saw him but Clough seemed to think he was going to get fit by playing him too long in games. I wonder if he was being wrecked by a fitness regime too? Not everybody's body responds the same way to specific exercisers so hopefully he's found out what works for him. In honesty I'd have got rid but well done to him for becoming a footballer again.

ahha...........the weekly Coutts story.

It's a real shame he wasn't "managed" properly in the early days of his time at BDTBL - but then again, the fact has always been that he has the talent and was recognised by some (and supported) and lambasted and slagged off by others.

This does seem to be the Blades way in the past - perhaps, just perhaps those days are behind us, now that we appear to have a decent managerial team who appear to know what a footballer is/isn't and also appears to solve problems of their own making very quickly.

We're going in the right direction.........about bloody time :):)

Dearie me, this Flavour Of The Month stuff is getting unbearable.

Filbert! Can't get enough of them at the minute, so that's my flavour of the month. Not helped by my Polish neighbour giving me this:

Must say Coutts completely changed, he was a player i glad to see transfer listed & as he was 1 of about 8/9 players i wanted releasing. But since his return he's a different player like the 1 Clough thought he was buying

View attachment 20143 Can I rename him? Has he been cloned ? Like a new player UTB
Yes its interesting that he has come good this season. He is like the glue that makes the side tick - like an enforcer. If he could shoot a bit more I think he would score a few goals and add even more to his ever increasing reputation

Starting to look very McDonaldesque. Skill, control, range of passing, gets a tackle in and can just glide past players with the ball seemingly attached to his feet.

Oh and McDonald could never bloody shoot either.

Class is permanent, however, without the right attitude, fitness, endeavour and direction it has no purpose,it takes a good manager to make a skillful footballer a team player !!

Tonight they kept a v close eye on him and didn't give him much room. This allowed Fleck more, so to have two proper ball players, now with the work ethic , is a real plus.

Not quite as effective tonight as he has been of late, but still good, and still a million miles in front of previous seasons.

He can't tackle, but was still involved making a nuisance of himself. I'd love him to score as it might encourage him to be more offensive.

Anyway, great stuff.

Majestic assist and shot tonight ,but he was shaded by Fleck for MOM for me. Mentions for Wright , Rafferty and Sharp. In fact Moore with a great save and Done too. Fuck it all of them :)

Don't think Coutts and Fleck really got out of third gear for most of the game, especially Coutts.

Fleck had another 4 or 5 good shots - I don't think I've seen him have a bad one yet. He's got goals in him without a doubt. Generally, he looks like a great signing.

As for Lafferty, it's no great surprise to see him score - he's been getting himself to the back post quite regularly. Not the best going forward but he does commit and he is useful in the air.

Interesting article which also gives an insight into the possible reason for the upturn in his form this season:

They've done well to write an article that doesn't mention or comment on the club you play for or the city you live in. Interesting how he presumes he'll be off at the end of the contract.

I saw a player in there early on but he just couldn't run. Especially towards his own goal, which made him a liability. This season he's been far better. Also helped by having some movement around him and players wanting the ball which didn't seem the case last year.

On current form I'd like him to stay. During negotiations I'd also like him to recognise we paid him to do fuck all for two years and hope that he wants to stay and be a part of something great, in a lovely city (how many ex players choose to stay) where he can raise his family.

That was written last March ,a few thing have changed since then.

I cannot believe that there are still people on here not 100% enthusiastic about Coutts. He has been a revelation this season and we would be a much poorer team without him. He is already a very important cog in the machine. We have all known for a long time that he had the talent. The problem was fitness and attitude both of which now seem to be resolved. I for one would be devastated to lose him specially as he looks to me that he would be more than capable of playing in the Championship should we get there next season. Hopefully he is enjoying his football now and if the supporters take to him he will stay when his present contract expires in the summer. So come on Blades let's give him some love and make him feel we want him to stay.

I knew they had a child but didn't realise it was two as he lives near me and have seen him in the park when taking my boy.

I am not the type to speak to footballers but he appears very content which is not only great for his family, but us too.

I used to hate him but think now I am beginning to understand him and hope he keeps this up as it won't be just us he's letting down.

Keep it up Couttsy!

It mentions Sheffield United in both the title and the first paragraphs and also mentions his 4 bedroom house in Sheffield, is that not enough for you? ;)
And as Sheffielder picked up on the arival of twins is an upheaval for anyone!
And as has also been pointed out, this was written back in March 2016 and the arrival of a new manager since then has obviously helped in his 'revival' as a decent player.
What I took from the article is that there's been a lot happening in his life and he's now settling down and getting back to doing the job he's more than capable of doing!

First time I have heard his name chanted last night ,briefly after the keeper had tipped the shot over. Also I reckon the best pass Ive seen this season ,in the second half across the pitch to Duffy ,that's what makes football great to watch.

Nothing like the arrival of kids to focus your mind on your future and help put things into perspective.

Coutts has perhaps realised the fortune he has to be playing football and being paid very well so he can provide for his family. Yes he might be away from home a few times a week, and get little time off around holidays, bank holidays etc. But he "works" very few hours a week in comparison to the average joe, and will see more of his family than most of us perhaps do.

So he may just be more content, happy and thus seeing a positive impact on his game. I actually think he will see a Scotland call up too before long.
We need to get the lad tied to a longer deal ASAP.
