I was singing cheds name all game but I disguised it in the word united.

I was singing unitched and nobody caught on

United – Cannot think of any negatives.
I thought there was one, which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. In a game where we dominated and came away 4-0 winners, both strikers were absent from the scoresheet due to their inability to stay onside. I can't speak much of the two in the first half as we sit at the Kop end of John Street (thought I understand it was one offside each), but there was nothing unlucky or a slightly mis-timed about the two in the second half. Both Done and Sharp found themselves in offside positions regularly during the game, and we know has been a problem for Sharp throughout his career. Their positional play and concentration in these situations were poor and it cost each of them a certain goal in the second half.

Yesterday was good, the atmosphere was great and a very good performance gave us a comfortable and enjoyable win. I would just like to think the management will consider that on other occasions in tighter contests we may only get one clear opportunity, and if Done and Sharp carry on like that when in the box it could cost us points

Even a grumpy old bastard like me would happily point out that this was our best league performance in about 3 years ....... some very enjoyable football to watch and a good scoreline as well.

Even a poor referee and diabolical linesman couldn't spoil a good days entertainment !! :rolleyes:

I thought that Duffy, Fleck and Coutts had their best games for the Club as well ....... EEL was immense !! ( Tufty ..... please kidnap McCabes wife and don't release her until the tight ba**ard has signed EEL )

Can't see how Basham will get in the side on Tuesday night ....... hopefully replace Scougal on the subs bench as it would be a shame to change a winning side.

Why would you replace scougall and not Reece brown. Too many people with silly agendas

Really ? Why ?
You think it's acceptable to describe someone as a "complete prick" for passing comment on something they heard in the ground? Presumably in your world because we won 4-0, this never happened, or if it did shouldn't be commented on.

It was not really a rant and I never suggested the ground was alive with it. I heard the chant once (I then heard a lot of Blades singing it at the top of Fargate after the game too)/ Others said they heard a few chants.

I have stayed away from all the twitter stuff, not even read the long thread on this forum for a while. I have kind of moved on from it. It is totally irrelevant to us now what the new verdict is. I had a slght interest because of the affect it had on us years ago but do not get the pro Evans stuff at all. It's almost like he is still a hero to some. He acted disgracefully that evening. As an employee of SUFC it was applaling behaviour.

Just do not get why some fans are still so obsessed by it/him.

We won 4-0 - maybe I should not have mentioned it and I am being totally hypocritical by saying why are we still mentioning him and then I do! I just felt it was worth mentioning as on great performance win we surely should be focusing on the current team/manager etc

Thanks for explaining why the Ched chant comment was included DB but there wasn't really any need . I was totally out of order with my comment and I apologise unreservedly for both my comment and behaviour .

I was like most other posters last night on a real high after what was our best league performances in years . I read your match report , as I always do even though I'd been to the game and I have to say I thought your analysis was pretty much spot on . When I got to the end of your report and read the Ched comment I was genuinely disappointed and thought why ruin a great day . To be fair to you though , with the benefit of hindsight you always comment upon the crowd and the Ched reference was clearly in keeping with your usuall commentary . Sorry mate .

Therein lie the perils of posting whilst pissed !

Are you fucking menstruating? Get a fucking grip daft lad. Great match report, full of praise, one mention of a chant about Ched and you go on the blob.

If you get all fucking girly thinking that was a dig maybe best that you hide in a cupboard next time we lose.

Edit: and before you get all pissy, I'd have probably joined in chanting so stick that in your fucking pipe and smoke it.

:D:D:D

I just 're-read that mate and wow, I'm such an angry man :mad:. Think I'll buy some kittens and listen to my Donny and Marie lp to chill out a bit.....

No worries. Fair play to come on and apologise. It made me laught to be honest rather than annoy me! I was called a type of female gentitalia the previous day (long story) so was hoping for a hat trick of genitalia based insults today but alas the wife was out.

Remember people suggesting we sign Antony Grant like he was the next Paul Ince.

He looked absolute bobbar.

He did, although he looked slightly less dreadful than most of his teammates.

Having the likes of scougal,lavery and young Chapman coming off the bench does give us the chance to carry on with the same style but having basham on the bench does give us something different when needed, good problem to have though, int it!

You were called 'piss flaps'. Fucking hell, what kind of circles do you move in :eek:

It was strange because of course i was delighted but it was also stunned disbelief because i cant remember last time United had been so utterly dominant & against a side we cant forget wasnt in relegation zone, but were 4th few pts of auto & 8 unbeaten, we almost could score at will putting 4 past them with another 4 ruled out. Which after watching highlights of our goals it no surprise it couldve been more as port vale marking was non existent it was like watching mceveley & collins at times it was that terrible

You know opposition are having a bad day. When the smallest guy on pitch whose barely above 5ft scores a header. I knew we been getting results & wins but never playing well more scraping results. But if thats a sign of things to come. The rest of league 1 must be crapping themselves

Did you hear the Ched related chants ? All I heard was a ground full of appreciative Blades applauding one of the best performances in a long time .

I guess some just aren't happy with that .
I sit on the kop and got there just as the teams came out. I was pleased to say I didn't hear a single Ched song all day.

What a cracking game. Everyone played well. I'd agree that the front two could tweak their positions a tad and could score a hatful. Done put two inviting crosses in that we're crying out for a back post runner. Funnily enough, just the kind of ball he busts a bollock to get on the end of. Sharp was lacking the anticipation.

But that's neither here nor there in the scheme of things. A real team effort coupled with skill and a bit of quality. That's the type of display I want to become our trademark. You can keep your Swansea 283 passes before you bother to go in the other team's half style. Give me eager running, a team ethic, a desire to get in the box and I'm happy.

Funnily enough, I don't think I've ever seen us have four goals chalked off and thought the ref had a decent game before.

Question at half time was "have we ever had a CB score a hat trick?" so I'll leave you with that thought as we couldn't recall one.

Glad I read the full thread rather than jump in with a reply to coolhand's initial outburst. Ended up giving him a like for the apology as opposed to a big fuck off for the "complete prick" comment.

The answer is no - and I think it also applies to fullbacks, and no United defender has ever scored a hattrick.

The first four games are rapidly becoming ancient history; the team were not up to speed or fitness for proper Tuftyball (and "proper" it is - more Barca than Bassett :))
I thoroughly approve of both the term and the approach of 'Tuftyball'. Going to the Lane has become enjoyable again, and not just because we're on a decent run.

I'd just add that in DBs report, I think Hussey didn't get the credit he deserved for the left-wing free kick he hit from about 30+ yards that was bending and swirling all over the place and should have easily found the top corner to make it five in total but for an exceptional save from Alnwick. Hussey - it seems to me - is a confidence player who came in at the start of the season and became a little bit of a scapegoat. it'd be interesting to see how he gets on for a full game now we're playing with some confidence in a system that would suit both the entire team and him personally. He strikes me as very similar to Freeman in regards the balance between his defensive and offensive capabilities.

Standing ovations? clean sheets? 4 disallowed goals? dominating games from start to finish? What has our club become?!!

Wonder if Bergen Blade has looked at whether Port Vale were crap, or we just got it spot on? Hint hint! ;):D

I think the game showed how Wilder wants us to play.

* Pressing
* Team spirit and enthusiasm
* High tempo, forward movement
* Counter attacking

We also must not forget that we have decent players, but we've had that on occasions in the past as well. The lack of modern, effective tactics has been holding us back too many times.

We were more up for it than they were. I wondered if it may have been a blessing in disguise that we lost the Walsall cup game before the break. Although we've been on a good run I don't think we've played consistently well, which Wilder has also admitted. Maybe we needed a little kick up our backsides. I think it looked like we've used the break well and improved on certain things. We certainly came out looking very determined, pressing, chasing, tackling and we got the upper hand early on.

Port Vale lined up in a 4-4-1-1 where they had a left back (Hart) as their left midfielder and a roaming striker (Jones, 7 goals in 9 starts) on their right. The left back was never a threat, and as we were all over them neither Jones or Foley (their no 10) got into the game. Paterson is no longer the striker he was and he had little chance against our robust centre backs.

I worry more with our 3-5-2 if opposition teams play fast wingers who force our wingbacks to become pegged back as full backs, leaving us short in midfield. In our first few games we also struggled when teams went direct against us. Vale seemed unaware of this, or unwilling to change their style. They were also ignorant of EEL's strength in the air. Their left back certainly failed to deal with him for both our first two goals.

I agree with everybody that it was a convincing performance, and hopefully it will be more of the same tomorrow.
