- the red card was an absolute gift.

So why on earth didn't we go in for the kill? We had plenty of opportunities to get another goal, so why didn't we put them to the sword?

If I was Chris Wilder, I'd be fuming tonight. You can't see out the last 20 minutes of the game worried about conceding when yer 1-0 up against 10 men. That should have been put away after their lad walked.

Am I being too harsh? Did anyone else walk away from that game feeling like it wasn't a win?

NO! Ground it out. Thought it was a good game. We gradually got on top. Good end to end stuff. Thought Bristol Rovers were a decent side. Chris Wilder was upset we didn't go for the second and yes, it was nervy, but WE WON. End of

I am never, ever going to criticise us for grinding out 3 points. I also believe that the sign of a good team, is one that can play pretty poorly and grind out a result. They are the kind of teams that win leagues, no team plays well every game.

It would have been last season.
Players breaking from midfield with pace and strong forwards was a stuff of nightmares last season.
A manager refusing to see or address issues and talking post match bollocks was dog shit.
This time we coped and got a victory by working hard and sticking at it.
We did lose the ball quite a lot and yes it could have been better, sure, but Rovers weren't a bad team and I have more faith in Wilder to solve it with every week.

He sees and says what most of us do. He's signed a strong centre back, a decent keeper and recognised his mistakes such as Hussey, but best of all, he doesn't tell how well we played and how unlucky we were after another shocking performance and prepared to give constructive criticism after a win against a pretty decent team at this level.

The last two games haven't been brilliant performances, but we have taken 4 points from two in form teams. Certainly not dog shit in my book.

Bristol, like Peterborough may feel they deserved a point, contributed to a good game. I was surprised how good they were. Before the game I thought they were in a false position but, they're probably not. Play Off outsiders.

Another game we wouldn't have won last season along with PBoro and Wimbledon

Wilder said post match that we need to start killing games off, it's still the one thing we are lacking.

Bristol Rovers played very well but we need to accept that we are still the team under pressure to perform at home in front of a big, expectant fanbase. Whilst we seem to have turned a corner in terms players beginning to cope with this there is still a lot of nervousness around the place when defending narrow leads. This is born from seasons of dissapointment and won't go away entirely until we start smashing in 3 or 4 goals regularly.

They on the other hand had nothing to lose and could play with freedom, same old story for any team in this league visiting the lane. Even with 10 man they could just go for it, especially as they had a ref determined to make up for the sending off in the last 30 minutes.
Just accept last night for what it was. Another gutsy 3 points, well played at times, backs to the wall at others. Ultimately ground out and deserved. We would have lost that match under Clough (latter days) and Adkins. Onwards and upwards.

That was a tough match against a very useful Rovers side. Like everyone else, I wish we could have gone for the second goal against ten men and it made for a very nervy last few minutes. In recent years we’d have conceded too but this team is starting to show signs of actually wanting to fight for the cause & I’m not going to knock that.
We’re still well away from being the finished article that would steamroller it’s way through this division scoring for fun but, if we can keep picking up three points while still improving (don’t like the term “work in progress”…but it’s fitting on this occasion) I’ll not complain.
From what I’ve seen so far I’m pretty sure Wilder knows our shortcomings and just as sure he’ll address them….. as he has so far since the first four matches.
Going back to killing off ten man opposition….. I’m sure free scoring Scunny would have loved to have done that at the weekend but their opposition had other ideas ……

The old adage that a team that goes down to ten men is sometimes harder to play against is true only in terms of being harder to break down.
NEVER should they be able to actually put us under even more pressure and make the game an even more nervy affair. Tom has it spot on I'm sorry to say.

In Bassett's promotion winning season we won loads of games like that.

very different styles and plenty of chances. United played some lovely football and Wilder called it bang on in his interview. We over played abit first half and should have pushed for a 2nd in the last 15, our failure to kill it off meant we had some nervy moments.

We are a pretty decent work in progress, but Wilder seems to know this and he keeps fixing our issues 1 by 1.

Must also add, we've had two CB's from the settled winning team out, one of whom was instrumental in turning things round, Bash out and Clarke not an option from the bench like at Gillingham ( would have been a big help last night IMO)

Long way to go and they'll be slip up's, but for the first time in years there's optimism and the potential to get better, much better.

As for the Blades, i would say that the last 3 home games have been really entertaining due to Wilders attempts to get us on the front foot. His formation will always give the opposition chances hence the entertaining football we have seen from both teams over the last few weeks. What a difference from last seasons ponderous, lethargic and effortless crap we suffered week after week. Still a lot to work on but really encouraging for the future.

I thought we looked very anxious when they went down to 10 men. I'd put that down to years of under performing and the heavy burden that can have.

However, if this run continues that burden will get smaller and smaller as every W clocks up.

If he had pace he would've played in the PL but I'm sure he used to take on our defenders when he played against us more than he does now. I think he has lost pace but luckily he's still a very useful player in L1 and can also play in a number 10 role.

He'll be an important player but as I've said before, he needs pace and movement around him. The sooner Lavery gets into the team the better for me, and I'd like to see more pace at full back if we're going to be playing without proper wingers.

I think what I was trying to get at is that although it was very much toe-to-toe until the goal and the sending off, we had every opportunity to kill the game off and we didn't. If we'd conceded a goal, which I feel we were very close to doing at times, it would have been entirely our own doing.

At 1-0 up against 10 men, being as sluggish as we were with the ball was a bit... not 'dog shit'...but disappointing.

I think you'll find that in real life, teams with 10 men very often manage NOT to get "killed off".
