This is my point exactly.

Brookes is being held back by a Middlesboro Loan signing of 18 years old. Brookes arrives in a shity old Fiesta while Chapman arrives in his top of the range Mercedes.... Brookes busts a gut for the 23s, Chapman didn't try a leg.

Brookes trying to break through to the first team, Chapman thinks he should be in the first team.

You can keep your Premier League teenage superstars, i would rather push through our own and give them the first team game time Chapman will steal this season.
I

Yes, if only Reed, Chappell, Khan, McFadzean, Chappell, Whitehouse and dozens of other nameless young tyros had been given more "game time". What stars they would have been by now, eh?....

Sounds like Rocky 1 and the eye of the tiger, desire and heart gets you a long way and I would rather have that

Have you seen either Brookes play 90 minutes of football? NOPE!!

Thank fuck we gave Walker, Naughton and Maguire some game time then.

Tell me, how do you know if a young player is good enough to play in the first team if you don't play them in the first team?

Are you for real? Listen to Tufty's interview from yesterday carefully. I couldn't put it better.

In short, the onus is on them. We are in the business of professional football not the X-Factor. There is no right to a 'chance' or a 'run'. That's Sunday League stuff.

If Brookes is putting in more effort than Chapman and performing better then I'd be surprised if CW doesn't pick him over Chapman in the long term.
The reality is that CW has to give Chapman a chance as that's why 'boro loaned him to us. He can't then ignore him for no reason. But if he's not training hard or putting in a decent shift, CW would be more than justified in leaving him out and telling 'boro why.

But for all we know he could have been carrying a knock or had the shits the night before or whatever.

Brooks and Little Louis Reed played in the same game, self-evidently to no great effect.

I discern Mr. Masher is not impartial in his views...

I didn't go but I've read reports from several who did that Brookes played well and was significantly better than Chappers. But that's just one game.

It seems that CW doesn't think Reed is good enough, or trying hard enough.

I can't wait for Spurs' undisclosed bid for Brookes.

I have watched both Brookes and Chapman this season on various occasions. My view is that Brookes is worth a chance over Chapman from what i have seen. Both in attitude and his effect on the game.
Why nurture Middlesboro talent when we could nurture our own in Brookes.

Now we get to the point you have not answered. How many times have you watched Brookes play?

May i suggest Mrs Pinchy hates any other opinion but her own.

Did you go to the above game?

No. I have never seen Brooks play. Tufty has though. Have you listened to his interview yet? A team, including Brookes and Little Louis, was beaten 5-1. That is hardly knocking the door down.

"One of our own" is parochial nonsense. Utter bollocks. Whoever wears the shirt is one of our own, regardless of origin.

My main though on this is around pace.

Wilder knew there was a distinct lack of it in the squad and that is why he signed Chapman, having let Che go.

Brooks may end up being the better player but as I understand it he is a clever and skilful player rather than a rapid one.

Wilder probably prefers this option from the bench when he looks at what the more established choices bring.

Did you go to the above game?

I did and agree that Brooks is showing a far better attitude than Chapman, who was very poor. When he came off he walked down the touchline in a right huff.

Brooks is an excellent little footballer - but still lightweight IMO - albeit twice the size as this time last year! If he keeps on developing he will play this season.

Reed did nothing to suggest he's anywhere close to breaking into the 16.

Under Warnock I think tomorrow would have been one of those games where he might have included a youngster on the bench.

Confidence is there, feel good factor about the place, ideal scenrio for a Brooks type to have a taste of the first team.

Wonder if Wilder will have a think about doing so?

This isn't another Kilgallon -hairdressers car ,Beattie alloys job is it ? Who gives a toss what they drive ,maybe Chapman has a rich Dad and he borrowed it ,maybe its hp'd up to fuck.
For what its worth I think they are totally different players ,Chapman played well up front against Leicester ,Brooks has been very impressive in midfield everytime Ive seen him.

Chapman got some decent comments from Barnsley fans and seems quite highly rated at Boro and England. Think it's harsh to write him off already, he's only a young lad and his appearances were all trying to rectify losing positions in a team with shot confidence at the start of the season.

With the team in a bit of form & in games where he might be able to contribute going forward, he's been away with England etc. I'm still looking forward to seeing him play and to see what he can do - but obviously it's up to him to prove it.

On Brooks - I think he looks a really talented footballer from what i've seen (3/4 times only admittedly) He's got composure on the ball, pace and skill. I can see him forcing his way into the side this season as we aren't exactly blessed with that in abundance.

I also think it's a positive we havn't signed burke - I do rate him as a player, but think its probably wise not to be chucking a few thousand a week at a 32 year old, I've no doubt that clough would have signed him up and padded out the squad for little tangiable benefit and potentially stunting the youth players development.

While I agree these players need to be getting into the squad/ XI on merit.

You do seem to be particularly opposed to some of these young players, and are on occasion unnecessarily negative when commenting about them - only my opinion like - but these are young lads are trying to make their way in the game.

Football is supposed to be entertainment and I can fully understand taking more pleasure and enjoyment from players produced by the club. Christ knows we've had little enough to cheer about recently when you look at the results. So whether that be pride from having seen them in the youth teams and having made it to the first team squad or being able to wonder they fullfill their untapped potential and do well for the club, its may well be people enjoy this escapism of going to matches.

I don't think its odd people are more forgiving about young players even if it is only because we get seduced by their intangiable "potential", Whats wrong with hoping we get another Maguire / Naughton / Walker / Jagielka / Tonge etc. Its obvious not every young player can make it but i'd suggest the investment in the academy is possibly the only decisions Kevin McCabe has called right in his spell here. As a pathway its shown we can produce premier league and international quality players.

As a question - Hand on Heart -if you were a Spurs fan for example would you genuinely not enjoy Harry Kane getting 30 odd goals a season more than say a new £25-30m forward? I'm proper jealous of that fairytale

Spurs have Category 1 Academy, ours is Category 2

Of course i have listened to the interview.

Where have i pushed Louis Reed to be played? i didn't.

I am talking about Brookes, a player you have an opinion about but never watched him play. No he is not my love child as you sarcastically mention. Lavery played in the 5 1 defeat also but could be involved on Saturday,,,,,, Didn't play well at all.

You have a real problem with youth players coming through the club. I am not sure why. Maybe you are a failed player yourself or just a sad sarcastic person. Whatever it is its piss poor on your part.

Got to admit i'm not fully up to speed on the differences but thought that only prem clubs could be cat 1? I take the point but their (and England's) first choice right back was produced by us - they also saw fit to buy another one of our academy products in Naughton.

In general my point was more that I enjoy Billy getting goals for us because I also know how much they mean to him at the same time. He's always been desperate to do well here and has come back for a 3rd time to try and do that. I like to see young players come through cos I think that's they way it should be rather than spunking 20m on every position in the team.

It has made a difference to me when considering wanky football league cup games - playing some of the young lads could quite often be the difference in me attending or sacking it off - especially with some of the turgid football we've endured over the last 2 years

Diego had a rich dad and we slaughtered him for a flash attitude and motor..... fact.

What i want to see is if a player is having a bad game, what they put in to turn their performance round. Spit a dummy out and ask to come off, or bust a gut with effort and try to change his fortunes...... rather the bust a gut version to be honest.

At last, someone that went to the game... and watched the same as me.

Wards you have an opinion i will listen too. Too many others have never seen half of the players we talk about but have massive opinions about how good or bad they are.....

Can anyone confirm whether Brooks is likely to beat Brookes in the race to start a game for us? I'm yet to see either – great to hear we've got two really promising players competing for the same position.

We haven't had that since we sold both Maguire and McGuire on the same day. Haven't forgiven McCabe for that – Macabe has a lot to answer for too.

That's not the reason Diego got slaughtered ,many including me wont know anything about his Dad or motor......fact.
How is he doing anyway ,tearing up the championship yet ?
