The Curious Case of Billy Sharp

Sharp has, to an extent, dug himself a rather large hole.

I doubt he would "want" to go.

But money talks.

The soundbites coming from the club are such that the players that will be at the club next season will be no better than the ones we have had this year, giving little reason to expect any significant improvement.

If this is so, and loyalty aside, would you blame him for considering a move ??

No, I wouldn't blame Billy getting a last payday..just wonder how 'the story' would go down with the fans...it was pretty bad with Maguire..and he's a pig!

There are ways EB. Budgets / finances being the main one.

But I agree it wouldn't be easy.

But as sure as eggs is eggs, our payroll will need to be restructured, Sharp is a saleable commodity, our top scorer (and right up there in the L1 scorer charts as well) and one of the high earners at the club.

The ingredients are all there.

I hope I am wrong.

Without going on a 'Brian The Blade' flounce, I can categorically state that, after more than 50 years of watching the Blades, I will walk away if they sell Sharp. I'll keep in touch with the many friends I've made while watching the Blades, I'll keep an eye out for the results, I'll remember the 4+ months when I threw away my ST on the day they flogged Deane and Fjortoft, I'll remember the days when they sold Currie, The Birch, Deano, Hamson etc. but I will not forgive 'the owners' if they decide that their own pockets are more important than the fantastic 'Blades Family' that has proved such an important part of my life.

If that's McCabe's raison d'être, go and join Philip Green.

Sharpe will end his career at the lane

This is terrible news. I've just checked and eggs are eggs:eek:

Assist and a goal. Non existent 90 percent of the game though!

Wow.

Just wow.

Suffice to say I disagree !

So do I. He got better as the game wore on IMO, and although he missed chances, he was at least in a position to miss them.

The problem that I have with Done for instance right now is that for all his hard work, he doesn't seem to be anywhere near a chance, let alone a goal. Sharp can be wasteful but I'd sooner him be like that than not getting a sniff.

He had one or two half chances but I didn't see much else from him. I reckon Wilder felt he wasn't offering much either and that's why he was going to sub him. But fair play to him he got the assist which changed things. What was your view on Billy's game today?

I thought he was good. Not excellent. A goal and an assist !

7/10. Holds the ball up soooooo well. A very effective target man, when played correctly. Retains possession of the football so much more than our other option for this role. Worries defenders. Always looks like making effective contributions, even when it actually doesn't come off !

I agree. I was surprised last season with Billy and at how well he holds the ball up especially when played into feet. At the moment I feel he's 2/3rds of the player he was last season but I reckon he'll come good. Today I just felt he could have been abit sharper in the box, more often, like he showed for the goal. And his link up play wasn't as up to scratch. I'm just comparing him to his own standards because if he was anyone else I'd say he smashed it with a goal and an assist!

Sharp is in for a testing summer.

Interest will be received.

The board will probably accept offers for almost any of our players.

The player will wrestle with the "loyalty to the Blades vs 1 last crack at Championship level"

Adams is as good as gone and, if Sharp goes, we will need a completely new forward line.

Happy days.:(

I'm off for a beer.

And I totally agree with CW for doing that because I don't think Billy and Leon will ever quite hit it off.

In a way I feel sorry for Clarke. I think people just assume him and billy cant play together now - But we aren't playing the same way as before (aimless long balls) which suited neither of them.

I cant imagine wilder wanted 70 yard punts but maybe Clarke being up there made the players choose the easy option
