I also think that Clarke and Fleck will eventually become huge players for us this season.

Didn't think today was as great as many thought, but there were some positive steps in that direction.

It is good that we can rely on Billy to bag a few goals and convert the majority of his penalties, even when the pressure is on, but I do still feel we need somebody who can create something from nothing; somebody who will nick us a goal when the other team is putting the pressure on. Over the course of a season, it is still something we lack.

Since we stopped hoofing we have been so much more creative. And today this translated in to more corners, possession, and goal attempts. Against a half decent side away from home to boot.

Mark my words, someone is going to be on the end of a reet thumping from UTD sooner rather than later.

Gillingham's goal just showed the difference between us and teams with a game changer in their line up. You can afford to soak up pressure if you have that one player you can rely on to add a bit of class and change the game.

Unfortunately we haven't had a real game changer in our ranks since Ched. Also unfortunately, they usually cost money, so I can't see us addressing the issue in January. It should be the top priority though.

We'd been piling the pressure on for a while. They got one free kick in a decent position on the edge of the area. I'm not confident we have anybody in our team who would have got the ball over the wall, no matter how statuesque, and on target.

He nicked a goal for them when they were generally under the cosh. Yes, that's game changing.

I think Clarke and the EEL 'changed the game' when they came as the Gill's were getting a bit of momentum and those two helped keep the pressure up for us in different ways...

Far from "sucking his balls" today is only the first or second time I've seen Dack play. He wasn't outstanding overall, but did possess that bit extra that we lack. Murphy could be quiet for 85 minutes, but produced that something extra that nobody else on the pitch would. That is what I mean by a game changer.

I'm not saying sign Dack. As I say, I didn't really know who he was before today, other than the occasional references in threads on here. I know next to nothing about pretty much every other team in this division, but it would be nice to know that when our backs are against the wall, we have an outlet that will create a goal against the run of play. I'm not seeing anyone in the current squad that could do it on a regular basis, unless it is Lavery, who I also haven't seen play.

Rated Dack last year but got to ask why hasn't he played as much this season and why did he go off? Had his knee strapped so perhaps injured? However, not a Wilder player or one we can easily accommodate in the new solid line up.

Billy does change games but in a non standard way. He holds the ball, back to the goal and then either scores, creates or gains fouls. That's his style, buzzing around the box. With Clarke alongside him and possibly even Done then chances will be created by Billy for himself or others.

Midfield General or goal scoring midfielder we haven't really got. Wilder seems to be trying to recreate the old Scougall of coming through onto the ball. That was Scougall's strength, think MK Dons away and Wembley. Whether he's been sussed or his strong enough I don't know.

Too early to obviously say on Lavery, Fleck and Chapman but all seem to have the potential.

But lads, look at what we have this year compared with last year where not only did we not have game changers up front and in midfield but we had negative game changers at the back. Players you could rely on to be so crap that their mistakes changed the game for the opposition!

We may not have a Michael Brown or a Ched of yesteryear but this team and squad is a million miles better than last year.

Never read such rubbish. The idea of a wall is that it blocks one half of the goal and the goal keeper takes the other half. If the free kick taker manages to whip it over the wall then tough shit. Hold your hands up and say good free kick. If Moore had stood in the middle and he'd bent it into the far top corner then you'd be kicking off. (Because he was stood in the middle). People always have to find a fault rather than just holding your hands up and saying "great strike". Nothing any of them could do.

Sounds like a criticism because you're weeing a little bit due to the fact that we won and you're desperate to have a little pop at any hint of discontent. The OP was quite clearly talking about game changing players, not bigging the opposition up in any way shape or form. If you read more than that into it you need to read a bit more, or maybe remove the rose tinteds because it's adversely affecting your judgment.

Billy, yes, he's a pace-less striker, but i think you're being a little unfair to suggest that he's not a game changer. True he's not like Ched, Tonge, Brown, Murphy and he's not going to dazzle with skills to create a chance from nothing, but he does have composure, like Ched, he also has the confidence from penalties etc.

Interesting stuff. I'm no fan of 'possession' stats, 'shots on target', 'corners' etc. and I think assists are practically impossible to monitor (i.e. who actually made the pass/move that led to a goal). So, with my graph-finger twitching until 'Compared to last season' becomes relevant (after ten games),. I'm doing a bit of an experiment based on goals scored and the effect on points gained. For example, Scouggs scored at Millwall but the goal didn't count for anything as we lost. Against Oxford, we were losing until Billy equalised which would have given us one point. But then Wilson scored which turned one point into three so Wilson gets 2 points. Until it gets shots down in flames, I'm calling it MVP and is surely the nearest to a 'game-changer' that can be monitored. Some earlier in the season were basically decrying Billy's tally last season with 'but some were penalties' (probably the same people who said Sharp should go as 'it's not working with Clarke' ). They all need putting away and Billy's late penalty yesterday basically turned one point into three, so Sharp get 'deux points'. I must get a hobby...

And from what we also heard (as a rumour), Clough agreed to Murphy's sale because he had Che Adams.

And in fairness, Billy Sharp can also be a game changer.

I get the feeling that both Harry Chapman and Lavery will have the potential to at least light up games.

Clough didn't sell Murphy, Adkins did.

I don't think it would have mattered who the manager was or whether they agreed to the sale or not.

They would be overuled by the money men and obliged to put a positive spin on it.

My view on the Blades is far from rose tinted, however I think if you went through our line up against Gillinghams there aren't many players you'd swap.

Like I said all teams need good players and goal scorers but I would hardly call Bradley Dack a game changer, if we could sign Messi on the other hand I may concede that he was one.

Can't see where the OP's that far off to be honest. We struggle keeping clean sheets, not having that game changer has cost us in previous games. Other teams manage to find a way through, score a worldie (or whatever stupid name it's called these days) and we huff and puff and get nowt. We've not had the balls or the nous to get back previously, hopefully Wilder will address that but like I said, might not be pretty.

Correct ....... we have no "stand-out player" and alarmingly; we don't have a player who is capable of troubling an opposing keeper from 25 / 30 yards out .......

Dack has proved he is a very good player. The majority of clubs would take Dack over any of our players and so would I. Just because we beat them doesnt mean he's suddenly shit.
