Makings of a promotion side

We will go nowhere till we can...
1) Attack at pace.
2) Play the right final ball.
3) Stop playing sideways more than forewards.

Better than last season and heaps of games to go.
Really hope Wilder does it. I love his genuine desire.
Top Blade. Hopefully top Blade manager.

I'm sorry but either describe us as champions elect or you're a miserable sod.
I take offence at being denigrated as a miserable sod. I sir am a full blown miserable twat!

Let's not get carried away.

It was a decent enough performance today, but hardly promotion worthy.
In fairness Pete, I've seen 4 teams now that are expected to be promotion candidates and non of them performed on the day like they will be be up there come May.

I think it's more about gelling and grinding out results now for all teams, the picture will become clearer in a month or two.

The potential is there:

We have a gk

Stronger looking defence. (We have some cb's)

Strength in depth (looking at the bench)

Our weaknesses may hold us back tho:

Lack of goals from midfield

Consistency

Basic errors

I remain optimistic due to our manager
Lucky win lets face it young lad nervously handles in last minute minuted hands game to United ....we were OK for a draw but to win I was shocked. Disappointments were Duffy - a lightweight nesh player ; Basham looks clumsy ; No pace up front; Can't see Done keeping his place; O'Connell not sure about him ; we have a big squad (again) so plenty of combinations of team selection; though Coutts ran midfield. UTB

Rocketed up to 17th and talking about a promotion side, wtf? I'm very happy with back to back wins but they (like Oxford) were poor.
Let's just stay positive, passionate and behind the team and manager. Feels like it's building but another away game to come next and let's see we are approaching Christmas.

Pretty much agree with this. Although, in context, Gillingham are a decent team. They're poor in the sense that this is a poor division, but as we saw last season we were routinely poorer. And it's another game where they took one hell of a big hit to concede a goal like that and we should give credit to them for not collapsing like they did vs. Southend and showing the character Wilder's asked for.

A solid performance, good character, much better organisation, and a little bit of luck at the end to nick all three points. Yeah, not getting carried away, but we can build a style and team on the back of performances like that. With players to introduce and others still to settle, there's plenty of scope to improve. What I was panicking about after the start to the campaign was ending up in a Weir situation where it doesn't matter what the side might become, you've already run out of time.

Yes and may very well not involve Bolton "running away with it" as some say with hugely premature certainty.

At times, Gillingham literally walked through us. We were gifted the win by a stupid mistake. Great result, but some right over optimism erupting.
I don't think our keeper could have had a much easier game amd so I don't see how they could have walked through us.

They cut us open once early on when Wright got turned and done for pace and Moore saved well, and we got caught out again for the free kick for their goal but not much else. I thought we defended well with the exception of giving away too many free kicks and we seemed to defend better as the game wore on

Cut us wide open within 5 mins and should've scored. Emanuel Thomas then waltzed past 3 players that were surrounding him with ease. We give then a free kick that was very nearly a penalty that they scored from anyway. Finally we win the game by a mistake, not because we buried our chances.

Result thoroughly deserved.
Walked through us what?

The win was lucky in terms of the last minute goal, but not the performance

I would also add it was as lucky as we were unlucky with the handball v Millwall

Suppose it evens itself out over the season

Yes we are far from the finished article with a number of issues/weaknesses. But are there any teams in this division at this level that are the real deal? I doubt it

I trust Wilder to improve us over the next couple of months

First time this season we've passed the ball well and we've won!

First time this season it looks like we've actually spent the week of training actually working on things and we've won!

First time this season all 11 players have shown the energy and enthusiasm and we've won!

First time this season we've looked like a team that is well coached and has a plan and we've won!

Hats off to Wilder. I had my doubts but based on today it looks like he can coach!

Defensive error they didn't carve us open
Keepers done well.
I said at times they carved as open, which they clearly did. They should have scored within 5 minutes. They went clean through one on one due to him easily tricking Wilson.

That's two clear cut chances from the home team. Well done Gills

I think the team deserve some credit beating them at theirs. A team who had been performing far better than we have thus far this season. We had the most possession. We created more than the home team and most important of all, scored more goals than the home team. How those goals came is irrelevant imo.

I'm please with the result. Im concerned how easily they went through us at times. Questions remain.

How did they get through so easily?
Why didn't most of our wall jump for the free kick?
Why did we have to rely on a stupid mistake to win when we had several good chances?

We were not brilliant today, we were decent. Staying grounded.

But neither had anything to do with luck. In both cases a player idiotically gave away a penalty; the referee rightly pointed to the spot and the taker showed sufficient bottle to put it away.

Ain't no luck involved there, mate.

You don't have to be brilliant to get out of this league
Wolves weren't, Charton, Wigan, Burton neither

Over 90 mins J, most home teams will create something (although at the Lane I sometimes wonder :D )

We have weakness's that's pretty obvious, but let's give this new team a little time to bed in. I trust Wilder to improve them. He know's the time of day. Knill and CW will analyse today's game and hopefully tweak it and the same will happen next week. I expect to see a much more resilient side will be evident in a couple of months time. Infact, the half time talk may have improved matters because how many chances did they create in the second half.? Arguably their two best players in Dack and JET, where that good, they both got subbed. We nullified them the second half

He should have scored, he could have scored, but he didn't score, we won 2-1 in the end isn't that all that matters tonight? Let's enjoy an away win, been a long time it seems.

Should've scored ? Isn't our goalkeeper part of our side ? Nothing to do with luck it was a great save by part of our team.

If you're one on one centrally, you should be scoring.

We are a side that will only get better as the season goes on and players get used to each other and get match fit.
I am more confident now that this is our season. We have played 3 sides away from home who would have been in most people's top 6 finish, we more than matched those 3 sides. We have no one to be scared of in this division.
We will be there at the end of the season.
Sorry for being positive.
Oh and Bolton will not piss the league.

Another positive for me is that.

We looked decent and we still have our brand new striker to come in and arguably our "biggest" signing of the summer to come back into the side in Fleck. Sure there is a formation with fleck and coutts playing well that will cause teams issues in getting the ball

miserable git.

Duffy had an off day, it happens. He was brilliant against Oxford, particularly in the second half.

Basham was immense. got stuck in everywhere and constantly drove the team forward.

Done pulled defenders all over the place making space and opportunity for others.

this team is growing and there were good signs all over the pitch today.

If we were lucky with the penalty today were Milwall lucky against us? It's what pressure does to you

Did any of the knockers go to last seasons game down there ,now that was been cut open .today well deserved win
