CONFIRMED Calvert-Lewin sold to Everton

TransferCentreL say we've agreed a fee with Everton for him and they're reliable most of the time
 

It's certainly a £1.4m punt on potential, although i would definitely trust Everton's judgement as to what constitutes a good footballer over our own.

Given our desperate plight to get out of this league, and sharpish, i can understand why we have taken the money.
 
Needs must......most of this has been commented on sensibly by Messrs Pinchy and Sean Thornton .

£1.4 million for a Division 1 footballer who only occasionally warms the bench seems remarkably generous. I'm sure Wilder knows where we need strengthening, and if he's being quoted equally silly fees then he must fight fire with fire.

I hope Dom responds to the demands that await him. If he does well his value increases and we benefit from any sell-on clauses. Comparing DCL with someone who scored repeatedly is a nonsense, so if the fee is as reported then we've done ok.

Saved me posting all the above. Years ago before the wacky market that is today came about, we got somewhere between 8-11m for two fullbacks.

Now in the midst of silly season when over a billion is being exchanged, why are we considering letting a striker, by far the most expensive of positions, go for such a paultry fee? Yes, he may need to develop, but he's a good height, got decent pace, showed in the previous pre-season and on loan at Northampton that there could be a goalscorer in there.

If this is true, it will be another shake your head moment in McCabe's reign. Sold before he can get anywhere near his potential. Another handful of goals in this division this season and he'll be worth twice that amount.

It seems when push comes to shove, we never, ever turn down the quick buck - Blackman (dsgraceful short-termism), Maguire (embarrassingly handled), Murphy, Adams, etc.

To be quite frank it gets fucking boring after such a long time. Why must we rip out the foundations and flog them off to do any building?

We should be renamed Short-term United.

    Sell DCL for £1.5m+, sign Gregory for £1.2m.

    Look at it like that and it could be a possibility couldn't it?

    But would it be wiser to spend any cash from selling DCL on at least three players? Gregory would be great for us though so it's debatable.

A slightly different way of looking at it for the ones disappointed with this...

If DCL was Millwalls player and we were about to sign him for 1.4m would we think we were doing a good bit of business? If not then why is us turning that kind of offer down any better?

Fully agree on the fee for Adams.

Shame to see our last saleable asset go. Literally no one else in our squad will fetch a price above a few 100k now. What will McCabe do next year ?? - it's not like any of our signings have been particularly young with room for improvement either to sell on.

Or more likely no-one at all. We haven't got it in us to make offers of more than £250K

Everton have agreed a £1.4m deal with Sheffield United to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has just been called up to the England Under-20 squad. Calvert-Lewin joined Sheffield United at the age of eight and made his debut for the club in April last year. He enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Northampton Town last season and has attracted interest from Manchester United as well as Everton. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is a Sheffield boy and grew up a few streets away from where Jamie Vardy lived, near Hillsborough.

Not teenagers but then again we wouldn't be signing teenagers as good as them. All still young enough to be improving and have good sell-on values though
 

last time they put an offer in around a million if i remember correctly . it was actually 250,000 plus loads of add ons !

Precisely. Chis Wilder might think he has all the attributes to reach the very top(as I do) but if it means a dependable league one centre half, knocking thirty, what would you do? I don't know if anyone heard Dave Green sitting in for Edwards during a BBC radio Sheffield radio commentary last season (JPT). He was praising DCL to high heaven, saying he was the most well thought of since the two Kyles...

Fair enough I'm probably just being arsey.

Does seem strange when our business model is clearly to sell at least a player a year to balance out the cost of sacking our pervious manager to let wilder/Adkins sign the likes of Duffy, hussey, Clarke, sharp. Who will have little in the way of sell on fees .
 
1.4million is decent for us, not showed anything to suggest he's worth more, if the cash can get us a couple extra players in today its worth it. Add a sell on clause just incase and i'd be happy

That was before we sold Adams. We could still be better off if we re-invest the £1.4m wisely but I'm not happy with the fee and the timing.

The quoted fee isn't much less than £1.5m ( although you did add a +) so that's moot.

IF we reinvest. We won't spend the £1.4m. That's a given.

We are living in a dream world if we think this fee will be in anyway 'reinvested' into the playing staff.

It will go the way of the murphy, Adams, Maguire, blackman etc etc money. Most probably Invested into paying off another manager at some point this season.

Does anyone really think we'll be shopping for a better class of centre half or now pick on a midfielder as well??"
