What a win

Much better performance today.

Dominated really.

Still one or 2 weak links but with better performances, improved results, the confidence will return.

Thought Basham was MOM for me. Billy close second as he did a great job of target man and goal poacher.

Different players did well at different stages of the game. Freeman was the best performer in the first half but was totally shot after an hour. Scougall shined as he moved inside and found space, as did Duffy. And Done had an excellent second half. Credit Wilder for tweaking a few things at half time.

The worry was the defence. It has to be the shakiest back four I've ever seen at the Lane. They're positively narcoleptic.

I agree about Bash but really didn't think Billy was great - Done much better for me due to his work rate - fair play for getting the goal we needed from Done's good work.

Not our best performance but 3 points is 3 points and the relief for the fans and players was palpable. That last ten minutes where every player was throwing everything into keeping the win was much more like it. Alleluia.

Still a lot to do. Massive holes in midfield and defence but better when O'Connell came on. Hussey had a Minger, 3 wasted corners. Was the lack of marking for theirs down to him. Knill seemed to suggest someone switched off or weren't switched on?

We need some height though with Done, sharp, Duffy, fleck and scoogall it is out big weakness.

But as I said 3 points is 3 points even though it felt a bit like a croc o shit at the end of the rainbow until we took the lead.

Impressed with Moore and Freeman today. I was also impressed with the crowd, no booing at HT when we were losing and rally got into voice as the performance improved in the second half ;):):):):)

I think it really 'clicked' 2nd half today. Duffy finally arrived and showed us the player he is;Bash had one of his better games;Scoogs was the player of old and as for Jake Wright, as many of us expected he showed the leadership we have lacked so far.

Not getting carried away, still need 3 players minimum but the beers will taste marvellous this evening.

Funny how we all see game differently. I thought Basham was a weak link for us today and thought Sharp was by far the better of the two strikers.

Enjoyed that 2nd half apart from a few nervy moments ..stand outs for me were Scougs,Wilson,Coutts,Billy and Freeman + Wright ...I was a bit worried when seeing the starting line up though...Good to get the first win UTB!

Basham's work rate is essential in that midfield - Coutts is a passenger when he's not on the ball - I really didn't think did much at all to be honest - better second half - each to their own mate!

Scored. Generally retained possession of the ball when played in to feet.

What's not to like ?

Scooooogs for me. Nearly back to his best days under Clough. Mention for Jake Wright. Grizzled veteran who can read a game and organise. Pitty he's not three inches taller and five years younger...

Shined? Fucking shined!!!

Yes I know it's debatable but when there's no object in the sentence it's "shone" for me...

Yes. Will be better when we've got the kingpin centre-back in there. Also they must be shell-shocked from playing in front of Calamity George. We have a goalie now...

In cases of assault on the English language does RAPFAPA allow defence cases built on real ale induced diminished responsibility?

If so, may I present exhibit A:

In between pints of Easy Rider, Saltaire Blonde and Hobgoblin Gold I've been thinking about shined/shone and it's now a little more complicated than when I first encountered irregular verbs nearly 50 years ago. Academic studies since that time suggest that the test I was brought up on doesn't really hold water.

Your "shined" may well be right JD. I may have to refer the matter to a RAPFAPA sub-committee.

I do appreciate this is not of the slightest consequence to 99% of my readership but I've had about a gallon now (not finished yet) and it's troubling me...

We have only been really poor v Southend.and that was a catalogue of individual errors. We are starting from the beginning again with a team thats unrecognisable and players still trying to remember each others names never mind systems. It will need time to fall into place

Not wanting to be contrary... But I thought we were also poor against Rochdale. Individual errors and poor tactics from the manager.

Wasn't there yesterday and can't comment other than to be really relieved to have the win. If we played in a good shape, that's a bonus and will hopefully be the foundations of some momentum this season.

Got to agree about basham he showed zero composure on the ball and constantly gave the ball away .... he's not a footballer and needs replacing asap

Is it debatable that a comma after debatable would improve things?

Bit like Coutts in midfield yesterday, subtle improvement.

I did say really poor v southend .we were so so v rochdale but thats all part of the learning curve with such a changed team.
