Any Thoughts ahead of Oxford?

Assuming we don't get anyone in I'd go for

--------------------------Moore

Freeman------Wilson-------O Connell-------Wallace

-------------------Coutts------Fleck

Duffy--------------------Basham---------------Chapman

----------------------------Clarke

I know Basham being so advanced will raise some eyebrows but for me, he needs to be encouraged to be making runs into the box every time we get the ball in a wide area. Coutts and Fleck playing deep should allow a decent amount of control as both are decent at playing through the thirds and are comfortable on the ball. That should allow lots of opportunities to get the ball wide which is where we need real wingers. No more fucking about with square pegs like Scougall and Done out there. In theory that should allow us to get plenty of crosses in the box and I think regularly having 2 biggish uns in Bash and Clarke in there should give us some chance of some joy. This system also allows Basham to chase down opponents in midfield knowing he's got 2 deep playmakers behind him. And more to the point, it's apparently the system Wilder favours.

Just don't think basham has it in him to be an attacking player. Rochdale he went on a driving run into the box, primed to shoot and potentially won is the match.

He then turned back to our own goal.

I'd go :

Moore
Freeman o'connell Wilson Wallace
Coutts fleck basham
Chapman sharp Duffy

If we are positive we are only brain farts, and poor finishing away from having won at least 2 of the opening 3 games

Oh no, wait - shit, wrong event, wrong type of rallying cry...

And Billy asks for a transfer next Monday?

Maybe. It's a shit situation we're in with him. I said when we sacked Adkins that Billy's worth to us would drop massively as a result. He was Adkins' talisman. He's got the best out of him at lots of clubs. He's struggled under a few other managers and that was always a danger here.

Brayford was similar collateral damage when we sacked Clough. Another reason I've argued both should have been given more time.

You might be right mate. I shared your frustration with the Rochdale incident but I've seen bits (Swindon in the playoffs, Donny and Walsall at home last season) where he's made these late runs into the box and got on the end of crosses. When he meets these crosses he doesn't have the same time to think about it and instinctively just heads/ volleys towards goal. If we can get him doing that more, he could be effective. He's not ideal for the role but with the players we have, I think that set up would offer the best balance largely because of the off the ball work he can do with Coutts and Fleck playing a more disciplined role and pulling the strings from deeper.

I agree about Billy and Adkins: as you say, Brayford was Clough's man through and through - he should have gone last Christmas.
Hope Billy finds a way to score and stay.

Wish I'd gone to Uni there. Then I'd have been into rugger and bestiality and I wouldn't give a shit about the Blades.

Yeah.

Our players are now not good enough to compete at this level. They are possibly now League Two, possibly lower.

Our manager is one of a long line of fall-guys lured into the role by a mendacious prick who relies on the goodwill of fans to protect his investment and believe his chicanery and bullshit. And he's just starting to know why his predecessors failed so badly.

2-0 to them. Both goals in the second half and we might get one shot on target this game.

I'll paraphrase Spinal Tap again: "That's just nit-picking, isn't it."
