Seven hour round trip for me and my two sons and grandson, as we now live in Wiltshire, but we will be there again supporting the Blades. Despite the last few years and despite all the rubbish we have had to put up with, we are still as ever 100% Blades. We will moan, we will get angry, we will be in despair but we will still follow the team our family has followed since the late 1890s. Once a Blade always a Blade.

I think it was the biggest salary of his career and the biggest transfer budget of his career that made the job too good to turn down, regardless of his United background.

His predissessor Adkins was also given a massive salary (highest paid manager in league 1) and given finances to bring in his main targets, ,mainly ex players. Sharp, Woolford and Hammond on massive salaries.

Simple question
Why did Adkins fail so badly last season with one of the best squads (on paper) in league 1?
I'm genuinely interested in your theory as to why last season the players always started slow, seemed unfit, lacked motivation and seemed to lack tactics. The only postive I'd give to Adkins is at least we passed the ball well and looked a decent team in the centre circle area.

Regards Satursdays match I really don't feel like going but it's too early to write off the season so I'll be there. But by the law of averages surely we'll put in a decent performance?
I'll go for a scrappy 1-0 win. We sure do need it, even a draw wouldn't be good enough.
 
Agreed a massive game we absolutely must get 3 points. We need to be winning games like these at home or we are going down. I hope that our attendances drop as it might give the board something to think about. I would want paying to go and sit through this dross...seen more talent in sunday league, honestly.
 
Surely a win, side we have is too good to be bottom if we get the win expect us to go on a winning run and tear up the league

Adkins was hobbled as soon as he'd signed the dotted line. Murphy had 'we are selling this one' against his name on the team sheet, and I don't doubt any aspirations to sign an equivalent or, shocker, someone better from upper divisions was booted over the posts.

As a leader and manager, he was shit, because he was equipped to be shit. She me any line up from last season you'd confidently be assured of a series of wins with. And all Adkins had to do was excuse away the disasters and meekly take his payoff and STFU. Like Clough. Like Weir. Like Wilson ... carry on to the left.

Here's a more telling question: why have no managers uttered one fucking peep about their year on year fucking nightmare as boss of the league's Kleenex team?

I'm serious. Answer me that one please.

Wilder will know Oxford and Appleton quite well. They're also his old club which might help.

Moore will be in goal.

We should have at least two new signings in for this game.

He surely won't start Sharp and Clarke together again.

Coutts will probably start if he's still here and that's a positive, because on our tiny pitch we need players who can keep it in tight areas.

Chapman's due a start.

Fleck might be back.

Oxford won yesterday, we lost. They beat a decent side in Peterborough. Typically they won't win two in a row.



If we can't get our first win in this one I'll be concerned.

We have to get it right against Oxford because we are in for a fucking torrid time in September. Gillingham are likely to beat us at their place, Wimbledon are down in the shit with us so will be looking to get off the mark. Peterborough and Scunthorpe have shown that they are capable of scoring for fun whilst we huff and puff to achieve fuck-all.
This could be painful.

A rhetorical question which we all know the answer, the bigger issue is the number of gullible managers who bring their own shovel & dig a grave for themselves on Cherry St.

A nondisclosure clause or whatever it's called is standard with football contracts nowadays, with players and managers. Sacked managers very rarely talk shit about their former Chairmen as they could be sued. Did you hear Moyes or van Gaal dissing the Glasers after they were sacked? Course not.

Silence clauses are standard practice in many different industries where contracts are terminated. Football is a leader. Sheffield United are no different.

This small minded thinking has got us where we are... bottom :(
It's just a regular home game at BDTBL against a team that we are more than capable of beating.. even with this squad.
It will come good.... still too much talent (honest) to struggle in this league.

I'm thinking that the squad will be pretty chuffing nervous. Now they need to step up and not hide away.

I know Basham being so advanced will raise some eyebrows but for me, he needs to be encouraged to be making runs into the box every time we get the ball in a wide area. Coutts and Fleck playing deep should allow a decent amount of control as both are decent at playing through the thirds and are comfortable on the ball. That should allow lots of opportunities to get the ball wide which is where we need real wingers. No more fucking about with square pegs like Scougall and Done out there. In theory that should allow us to get plenty of crosses in the box and I think regularly having 2 biggish uns in Bash and Clarke in there should give us some chance of some joy. This system also allows Basham to chase down opponents in midfield knowing he's got 2 deep playmakers behind him. And more to the point, it's apparently the system Wilder favours.
