The only positive is that there's really not anyone else I care if they get sold. We've no more assets to strip - the l1 roll call of Maguire, macdonald, che, Blackman, Brayford have gone. No one else is gonna attract interest in this first 11

I must say I'm disappointed in wilder's ability to improve players so far, as a minimum I expected the under performers from last year to improve and so far we've sacked off Brayford and had to spent money to replace long. No one has put in a performance worthy of the shirt. I know it's early days obviously but not ideal as we should be trying to et the maximum out of these players and we all know Bradford on his game is a cut above l1 level.

It's a sorry state of affairs that basham when he arrived was clearly not good enough for the first team. I'd Argue he's now the first name on the team sheet

I think it is fair to say everyone has gone backwards - even his own signings

You know something when I read your post I thought here we go, lets Ave a go, but unfortunately you are right.

Said it in the shoutbox but there is nobody in that team that excites me or makes me think any of them can dig us out of the shit. Only one way this club is going imo.

One thing is for sure, every player who comes in now shouldn't be over the age of around 23. Thinking Morsey Lavery etc need hungry young players in now.

I would have jags back tomorrow at centre half, I know what you are saying but, goalkeeper, centre halves I am happy with experience over youth.

That's presuming that we are going to sign some players.
I'm normally a positive person regards the Blades, and I have always believed McCabe to be a Blade just like me with the clubs best interests at heart.
But I'm now starting to have doubts.
Brayford was not in good form admittedly, but to let him go without getting a replacement in is worrying. If Freeman is the replacement then we are in real trouble, simply not good enough for this division.
The fact that allegedly some players transfer listed are now back in the frame also sets alarm bells ringing.
I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't bring anyone in, and Done and Sharp also left.
The 4th division in 81/82 was my best season supporting the blades (not much to shout about it know) but I'm in no hurry to go back there.
Very worrying times.

Don`t want to seem like a smart arse, but the first thing Wilder needed to do was sort the spine out. Without that nothing works.
Instead he wasted a minute of his life re-signing Long, ignoring the need for 2 hard core CB`s, a ratter as CM and a go to CF.And that was a bare minimum.

We haven`t got a single 1 of those crucial players, although Moore might be the first.
He had more than enough time to know all the above yet fannied about.
Not impressed but lets see what transpires over the next few weeks.

Brayford does not look anything like the old Brayford, I do not knowwhy however a lot of folks on here rated Freeman last year and bash did a good job last time he played their, in fact better than in mid field, at the moment those two look a better prospect right now, maybe not fir the rest of the season, but now? Definitely.

Well and here I was thinking we could be in for Matty Taylor.Bah!

To be fair we've not replaced Long, we've signed a first team keeper, something we've not had since losing to Huddersfield.

George can now develop his game without the pressure.

Brayford has struggled to recover from being injured but he has put it in unlike Coutts and Wallace.

Recently this season and part of last Brayford hasn't been an asset. In fact he has been a drain on resources. Stop harking back to those Halcyon Charlton days. They are long gone with half the team. Brayford has had two bad injuries, is in poor form and doesn't want to be here. That is no asset, hence why nobody has beat a path to our door for his services other than his bezzy mate who he wants to join up with.

Good business if it frees up wages for what we need AND we get what we need.

No flair to the squad at all and there wasn't much of it to begin with either.

We have no player that you could say are a game changes maybe Done coming off the bench as a striker though not starting on the wing.

This squad as the feel of the Championship relegation season about it but I really really really hope I am wrong.

Half time on Tuesday said the same, not difficult to pick someone to come on but didnt have the feel of a match changer.

It certainly does feel that way to me too. Trying to build a squad as the season carries on around you, losing players without replacing them , bringing in cheap "hard workers" with little skill, no idea of our best 11.......it's almost identical to that relegation season . All we need now is Wilder to be fired, Travis Binnion to be appointed manager, him going to Wales and then us bringing in Brian Deane who takes us down

BladeinLeeds,

Are you for real?

Name me a club that doesn't lose their assets when a bigger club comes along and offers an attractive business deal to the player and club?

You have no idea how business works.

It's getting a bit boring but let's go through some of your examples and see if you can understand.

1: McDonald:
His contract said if a club offered £50K then he must be sold. Now whoever agreed that clause for the club us an naeve idiot. Maybe the agent wanted loads of money that we simply couldn't afford, so we agreed a deal that if he signed then we'd sell him cheap. It seems his agent quickly contacted Wolves to make them aware of the clause.

2: Maguire was too good for league 1 in his final season. We offered to make him the highest paid player at the club but a PL came and doubled the offer. Maguire would rather play in the PL than league 1 so we didn't stand a chance. Are you saying we should offered £30K a week or are you saying we should have kept him to his contract for 1 more year then let him leave in a free?

Ched Adams has potential for the future but we need promotion now not in 3 years when Adams might be a good player. Last season Adams was very ordinary and no where near worst £500,000.
However a club offers 1.7 million which is more tha his worth, so it's a no brainier to sell.

Brayford is one of the best full backs in league 1 but I bet it'd the highest paid full back in league 1.
The problem is that last season and the beginning of this season he's not offering value.
Again if we can sell Brayford and free up some wages then it's an attractive idea.

Of course with all these sales it's about how we use the funds to improve the squad and first team.

Athletic Madrid are famous for off loading all their best players most seasons
But they have replacements that are just as good.
Athletico have always been a "selling club" but it's not done them any harm.

The problems with Sheff Utd haven't been the sales or the lack of investment.
It's been the managers decisions on bringing in replacements.
They've not worked, then when the manager wants yet more players the board loses its bottle and understandably tightens the strings.

The Prince must think we're a set of con men.
We keep insisting we have top rated managers who have achieved promotions and when they want top rated players we ask the Prince for funds.
He must watch videos of Higdon, Hammond and Sammon and can't believe how they've all supposedly played at a high level. Do they all have twin brothers and we got the other twin that doesn't play football?

what we have become is average but i think needs a type of player to get us morsy would be quality lavary deal seems to have hit the buffers but with players going on good wages opens a oppertunity to sign decent players on a wage that is slightly better than we could have offered

I agree Morsey and Lavery are surely great signings at league 1 level.

But you can just imagine McCabe approaching the Prince and asking for "a little more" because these 2 will give us a better chance of promotion. It woukd be deja vu for the Prince because we will have told him how Sammon will be great at this level and although Hammond is expensive, if we can stretch to £15K a week then he'll be the best midfielder in league 1 and a born leader.

It's as though whoever we bring in all of a sudden is weighed down by the heavy shirt and can't perform.

Good shout that.

If Wilder becomes another David Weir lasting a few months

Then it wouldn't surprise me if the next manager is Brian Deane
Then if he fails we'll go for a foreign manager.
Then if he fails I reckon The Prince or McCabe should become manager, they can't do any worse.
Then if they fail let's have a raffle and let a fan off the Kop be manager.
We're running out of manager options/ ideas, we've almost tried them all.

No matter what happens this season.

The next pre-season will be exactly the same.

If we're promoted, new signings to improve our chances of staying in the Championship.
If we're still in L1, Wilder to be sacked, a new manager comes in, brings in "his" players.

Stability would be a grand thing, should we fail and Wilder's United shows a vast improvement on Adkins XI.

I wouldn't take the job on... It's becoming the most poisoned in football (or so we should believe).

I was going to post a thread with the same title, but this doesn't really cover the issue.

We clearly are skint. We're clearly going to get shut of everyone worth anything.

My issue is the wage bill. Whilst, in theory, I'm happy with Brayford going out and freeing up wages, let's look at the in practice.

In practice we've stripped 30-40% off our wage bill (including pay-offs)

We've made about £1 million profit in the transfer market, possibly a bit less now.

Yet we still have to sell players to the detriment of the team.

If you;re loaning Brayford, and the rumours have been a while, why is a replacement not already in?

Who benefits from this cut in wages. We've been sold it as having a much smaller squad which will benefit the team. In reality there's only one man benefiting from this and he's called Kev.

Tomorrow, Freeman gets injured, Who exactly is going to play at right back? Basham? He's still in centre mid (for some unknown reason).

This is our chairman asset stripping and the only person it benefits is him. The multi-millionaire.

This is our chairman who has lied for years saving as much money as possible. None of this benefits the team.

I actually laughed. There's more chance of me sleeping with a Hollywood film star.
