Jagielka

Funny how one mistake has changed some people's view of him. Forget the 5/6 seasons that he drove the team forward, a handball in one game obviously means he was a twat and didn't care.

It wasn't a handball in one game that was the problem though was it
It has been suggested that the sheer ridiculous nature of the handball, and the absolute amateurish nature of it, coupled with his already negotiated get out of jail if we get relegated card, there might have been a bit more to it than meets the eye.

If he'd not handballed it, we could have stayed up and prospered as a club
If he'd not handballed it, we could have stayed up and we'd have still sold him anyway. Only for a lot more money

I'm sure there are lots of 'If...then' moments in every season, Jagielka's handball undoubtedly being one of them.
Did Webber deliberately hit the post? From where I was sitting it never looked like it was in but he didn't follow up his shot.
To use your favourite guessing game...

If he'd not hit the post, we could have stayed up and prospered as a club
If he'd followed up his shot, he could have had a rebound tap-in off the post, and we could have stayed up and prospered as a club.

What about the game before against Villa away? Why did we go out and play in a way that allowed us to be so comfortably beaten when a 1-0 or even 2-0 defeat would have kept us up?

I refuse to lay the blame for our relegation at the hands (pun intended) of Jagielka because of that one incident.

Fair enough, I don't lay the blame at Jagielka either, not really. I'd have done whatever it took to get out of here as well.

And Webber missing a chance is hardly the same as playing basketball in your own penalty area, but hey ho !

Staying up with United and the board of directors would have said
"Well done Phil, here's a new contract as a reward. From now on you'll be earning a massive £10,000 a week"

But with a contract of £50,000 a week practically in his back pocket all that was left was for United to get relegated and trigger his release clause.
If the incredibly ridiculous way he gave that penalty away hadn't happened nobody could have said a word wrong about him.

But it did happen in that incredibly ridiculous way, and a suspicion will remain as far as I'm concerned.
You can remember his great playing qualities if you like, and yes he was a great player for us, nobody is disputing that.

The hand that has caused a thousand years of pain and counting.

If I remember rightly, after doing the the deed he scuttled off to Everton as fast as he could. Bollocks to him. Ched wanted to return to put things right, I've never heard a bloody peep on the subject from St Philip.
That's like blaming a butterfly flapping its wings in Britain for an earthquake in Latin America. Did Jags appoint Bryan Robson or Micky Adams, get Nyron Nosworthy on loan, get Ched jailed for rape, injure Shaun Miller, sell Maguire and Murphy, cause Weir's mini breakdown or Clough's brainstorm when signing players in summer 2014, or Adkins to sign Hammond?

If you've followed his career he does have a tendency to panic and do something bizarre every now and again. I've seen him drop some right bollocks for Everton so not that surprising he does one given the pressure we were under.

If he was going to cheat surely he'd have done it less obviously? Like just foul someone in the box?

without wanting to be too harsh it was a fucking blatant push and foul that led to the handball.

Only at Sheffield United would this even be up for debate. WTF mate, WTF...

Only at this club would it have happened in the first place

A normal club instead of a retarded one would have tied him up on a proper deal without the get out clause

When he insisted on that get out clause it was at the beginning of his first ever season as a Premier League player. He was not in a position to vehemently demand such a clause.

He could have been abysmal in the Premier League and nobody might have wanted him for all we knew

And you spending half your free time on the internet whining about a club you describe as retarded. You're having a nightmare mate.

No, but he started the chain of events that did. That's chaos theory for you. How very well named that is in our case

Its the sale of Jags and every other player of promise that we are in the state we are.
Think of all the mangers dismissed since Warnock and then one can see who is responsible for the current predicament.
Just wish someone would buy us out and inject some much needed capital.
Even Monty would be good in the team today.
UTB

Jags had a minimum fee release clause and Everton met it and Jags decided to leave. I think Jags was always going to leave even if we'd stayed up. As for the handball, I still don't get why he did it, he had no need to.

So blatant that not a single United player, not even the Everton player Jagielka who could hardly have missed what hapoened nor that "take it as it comes" manager reacted?

If it led to the handball it defied bio-mechanics. A thrusting of hands directly and vertically above the head and no fall to the ground. Try it....

The worst thing about it is that this non-Blade didn't explain it. Never. Not on the day and not since. In fact he's only spoken about us once since and that was on video for the 125 Anniversary. He's never been back either.

Fuck the Everton player NBW.

To be honest, I think it's the other way around. At any big club, at least, there would be fury and suspicion at what Jags did - and people wouldn't fawn for years and years over a player who left the club and never looked back, never mentions the club, never (to my knowledge) talks about what a wonderful time he had or what a great club it was. If anything shows how small-time we've become, it's the pedestal we place a handful of players on who are long-gone and play for another club.
