I'd rather have Blackwell and have time to think with a clear head, than appoint some other no mark for 3 years and regret it.

I quite concur.

If Blackwell does a good job, then offer him a full year.

If he doesn't, then the season was probably already a write-off and we have time to try someone new.

Welcome to the forum Fish :hello:

I just hope he doesn't bring the curse of administration with him!

yeah although both clubs were pretty messed up financially before he got there though.

How can Luton and Leeds fans say hes a shit manager, its the shit clubs he was at.

Its funny how they weren't saying that when they were getting all the praise for getting to play Liverpool, praised on their innovative set pieces and they style of play!

Yet now he's gone he was crap! ;)

Its not now hes gone, its now hes joined us, thats when the Weeds fans come out saying "he did shit for us" we have a simple answer to them tho.

He wasn't a shit manager, it was just a shit club.

Its near enough impossible to judge a manager who's previous clubs was in administration, with no money to spend.

Not sure about Blackwell. But giving him until the end of the season cant go wrong really.

I said when Robson took over he's good to get the 'big' names in but is a crap manager and should have been director of Football. Looks like my idea has come true!

The bloke's not done bad when he's had a fair run at Leeds and Luton - I just hope he doesn't bring the curse of administration with him!

We can at least plan for next year in the closed season - if Blackwell's done OK then fine. If he's crap then we've got time to find someone who is capable of doing the job and get them in in enough time to put a team together that can go up.

I doubt that administration will come our way! Will we see more from the Academy now?

This is a very sensible move from the chairman and i have to give him credit; this was a very tricky situation and i think he has handled it well.

Robson had to go and i have seen nothing to suggest that Brian Kidd has imporved the playing staff through his coaching methods.

Blackwell is a sound option until the end of the season, i even think that he may prove to be something of a success.

Terry Robinson has made some truely awful decisions and i am glad that he has not escaped this from the trainwreck unscathed.

All in all i am very happy tonight; i'm sure that a good number of fans will have their reservations but these winds of change will hopefully bring a gust of optimism once the news has settled in. It has been very uncomfortable at the lane so far this season, i'm looking forward to enjoying my saturdays again (for a fortnight at least :)).

The blades go marching on, on, on!

But there's nothing to say that any other managers weren't approached and weren't interested in taking over the club at this time. Better someone than no one at all.

Well I suppose we won't know. But I doubt others were approached.

Let's give him a chance eh?

I will be fully behind Blackwell, as I was Robson initially even when I hated the fact we had signed him.

Its near enough impossible to judge a manager who's previous clubs was in administration, with no money to spend.

No money to spend? He spent a fair whack at Leeds.

As said, looking at it, it is good business for us, we aren't going down. So even if he isn't a success there is no big pay out. I see it as a sensible idea, I'm just a bit disappointed.

I am over the moon that Robson & the dug-out prop Kidd have left the club - and left us for good with no ties.

I am also very pleased to hear that Kevin Blackwell is taking over. I had no problems when he was here with Mr. Warnock and thought he did very well, he was certainly an encouragement to the team, more so than we have seen in the last 8-9mths.

Come on now, Blades - let get back to where we were, in both support and on the field :D

No money to spend? He spent a fair whack at Leeds.

He pretty much cleared the majority of their short term debts thru player sales and bringing in cheaper players who were then good enough to be salable assetts.

All whilst getting them to the play off final.

I don't recall any big sales through Blackwells tenure, but I'm sure I could be proven wrong.

Looking at soccerbase I work it to be £10.9 million to be honest, with an outlay of £4.95 Million

But thats irrelevant.

I can't actually be bothered to look at every player that went in your list, but I know that Killa wasn't sold under his regime.

You are correct, didnt notice him in there.... I may have to tweak my list due to a poorly created search term :D

My point was... he did actually clear out some dead wood and did raise some money. He did a lot in terms of removing debt/restructuring the playing staff.

I'm not disputing thiis,

What I was saying in the first instance, he still had a fair bit to spend regardless of their situation.

Some of the free's they got were good signings too, like Eddie Lewis, so its not like he had a bad side that he took to the play offs. What I am saying is, technically they were possibly the best team in the league at that period. Well that was my opinion.

I'm delighted with the appointment, and think that it's been done sensibly too.

Couldn't be happier at the moment, and it's the first time in ages that I've been excited about the Blades.

Got to be positive on this. Kev was in a tricky situation and has maybe gone back to tried and trusted, but that is no bad thing. I've a feeling Blackwell may do very well actually, and although it has almost been sneaked in as an aside, I'm pleased to see that Robinson has been called to account. He was a prime mover in the Kidd arrival and then Robson. I'm feeling quite chuffed at the way Kev has handled all this.

Stand-by for more changes in the summer though! This isn't finished yet.

Good appointment for me, he knows the club inside out and knows the majority of players here. It's only a short term contract so we're not tied down to keeping him, if he does well he may just get the job, but I genuinely believe we've got someone lined up for the job that wanted to wait till the summer to take over.

Sad I missed out on this last night. Dammit not having broadband at home. :(:(:(

Foxy, you mentioned "innovative set-pieces" from Blackwell. Was the one where 2 players run into eachother and have an argument whilst a 3rd player smacks it, his? That one always made me laugh. Especially when even some of our own fans though it was a mistake. :D

Big Sam for 'Football Supremo'? ;)

I think it'd be between him and Coleman.

I saw Coleman on Goals on Sunday a few weeks ago, and he said he wanted to make a return to management but not until after spending time with his family, I really think he's a possibility but at the moment it's all guesswork really.

Paddy's happy about it:

Kenny on new appointment

Paddy Kenny is delighted to see an old coll
eague back at Bramall Lane.

In the light of Bryan Robson and Brian Kidd leaving the club on Thursday, Kevin Blackwell has been installed as manager until the end of the season with Sam Ellis as his assistant.

The Blades goalkeeper has worked under Blackwell at both Bury and the Blades.

"It's great to see a familiar face back," Kenny told www.sufc.co.uk at training on Friday morning. "Blackie was very popular in his previous spell at the club, many fans will remember his role in the exploits of 2002-03.

"The lads are looking forward to working with him, there's not a lot of time before the Middlesbrough game but I'm sure he and Sam will get their messages across of what they expect for us."

Is that because he couldn't stand to be in the same room as Robson? ;)

I am pleased that the players are happy - I hope it's reflected on the pitch :)

Well that was rumoured about some players ;) Shame they can't come out and say what they really thought.

Someone will need to hunt them down in Leadmill one night :)

Well I suppose we won't know. But I doubt others were approached.

But if this rumour is actually true (the third person is now our boss), then we could have approached managers who couldn't commit themselves to a new club until the summer, but we have them lined up for then?

I just can't see it Linz.

It says in the star that McCabe chose Blackwell despite receiving expressions of interest from several high-profile figures, including Billy Davies and Steve McClaren.

I was wondering if Kevin wants to find the "football supremo" to oversee the new football structure at the club before a permanent manager is appointed in the summer (whether this is Blackwell or someone else)
