United play Walsall at home on Tuesday October 4th in the Football League Trophy and again at home in the league on the 8th . Have we ever played the same team twice at Bramall Lane in such a short space of time?

didnt we do something similar agaisnt charlton a few years ago.might be the 5-2 at there place or something

In fixtures gone by matches were played on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Think it used to be the same opposition. Similarly I think over the Easter periods in the late '60's and early '70's we used to play against same opposition on the Easter Saturday and then on the Tuesday or even Easter Monday. Sure there was a Leeds fixture in about 1965 or 66?

Cue Silent.....

(Just noticed you're looking for fixtures at the Lane)

dont know but they were shit last season and we tonked them easily so that could be a good week for us

Forest in 26th, 28th Dec 1963
Man U in 26th 28th Dec 1964
Spurs in 27th 28th Dec 1965

and many more as it was common then

L**ds in Easter Monday and Tuesday 1974

In September 1983 we played four consecutive home games, the second and fourth of which were against Bradford City, one in Div 3 and one in the League Cup. The League Cup tie was 2 legs so by the end of September we had played Bradford 3 times.

Well Done! I was trying to think of the answer! You beat me to it!

I've also found that in 1998-99 we beat Grimsby in the league 3-2 on 8th September and then beat them 2-1 in the league cup on the 15th September, both at home.

A cynical team might try to get Walsall's star player injured on the Tuesday game!

Not quite the same thing but in 2003 we played twice in 3 days at Selhurst Park, drawing 2-2 with Palace on the Saturday and losing 1-0 to Wimbledon on the Monday.
