Harder than last seasons bunch of wankers - still got same result, quite worrying we've not got the excuse we rested any.

What a waste of a fucking night.

Thanks
I don't necessarily think it was a waste of a night Les, I think it was more a waste of a host of chances. We created a lot more tonight and Fleck looks a very good player, we need to punish teams when we are on top, I think the result could dent the players confidence even though the performance wasn't that bad, it's up to CW to pick them up for Saturday.

Mcabes the one who uses the unlucky ;-)

Well Wilders not set any records for games at home without defeat ffs.

Wilder aaarrrrggggttttt ;)

Seriously we are a 20 minute team. After that Crewe grew in strength, confidence and pace and eventually looked like scoring with every attack. Outplayed our bunch of sorry players, Crewe fully deserved their win and Lowe was totally unmarked from coming on to going off

You're right we created a lot of chances - no where near clinical enough though and crewe cut us apart at times when they went forward.

They'll be down tonight but come Saturday winning or losing from tonight will make no difference. People like Fleck and Duffy hit the bar from outside the area, its not missed chances. Sharp and Clarke are getting chances and we know they'll take them. There's some serious over reaction to losing here! If we think we're alone then just look at the other results tonight. If we'd won one nil we'd have been saying job done etc but Lowe has done us and hopefully we'll learn. When we get a decent centre mid to partner Fleck and a decent left winger to help out Hussey we'll be a much better side with more balance. Right now its a working progress and we sadly have to be patient. The players will still be getting used to Wilder's methods and tactics and Wilder will be figuring out which players are going to stay in the team and which ones aren't offering enough.

sadly we're stuck with too many of last season's team and fans saying we've brought in crap need to be patient. Clarke, Fleck and Duffy are all good signings and Hussey will come good when he settles down.

There's some major overreaction, probably from people who haven't even seen the game.

I don't think there's an overreaction about the result. I certainly couldn't give two hoots about that cup. Neither could many teams who played second teams. We, however, played our first team and lost to a league 2 side.

And I don't know why the blame still lies with 'too many players from last season'. 6 o the starting line-up were Wilder's signings. I'm assuming Billy or Brayford don't fall into the negative category, so it's 3 players.

The main concern is the way we're playing. We seem to be able to sustain Wilder's way of playing for less than half a game and then resort to exactly the same as last season. All teams need to do is hold out for 30 minutes.

It's just worrying early signs. Hopefully, they'll pick up and we'll bring some actual pace and enthusiasm in.

Disagree with you B56. Yes Crewe had a few moments and moved the ball well but we really should have had them out of sight. It's almost like we are trying to walk the ball into the net and rejected numerous opportunities to shoot and only altered when we went behind. 2 games in and how many times have we fizzed the ball in with nobody prepared to take a gamble? Im confident it will come, especially with a couple more additions but we have to be ruthless.
Fleck looked good again and I thought Clarke did well. Billy was far to quiet again and struggled to get into the game. Duffy seems to want too long on the ball and frankly Hussey has been rank average so far. Sparky looked sharp when he came on and DCL had a rush of blood when his big chance for his first Blades goal in front of the kop came. We aren't dreadful but we just haven't clicked into gear yet. The signs are promising and with a little more ruthlessness the confidence will come. Roll on Saturday

Cheers for the upbeat message Kevin.

The last line you say is where we're at really isn't it. Wilder said as much tonight. Hopefully a left mid this week, it seems something is imminent from Wilder's interview. Basham for me is not good enough at centre mid, I prefer him a the back but its clear that Wilder doesn't want him there which his his preoperative.

I can see us being a very good attacking side if we add another winger. Defence looked very shaky at times and conceded two poor goals.

Game was basically over as far as we were concerned when Sharp and Clarke had come off. After that there was no target for any attacking balls, no hold up play, and we were just plain out of it.

Positives: Duffy, Clarke, Sharp, Fleck, Hussey

Negatives: Everything else

I thought we were a bit complacent. 1-0 and looked fairly comfortable with 5 mins left, Calvert-Lewin should have scored and it's game over. A minute later it's down our end, George stops one that goes out for a corner, then we don't clear our lines and it's 1-1. Didn't start extra time very well and another ball drops to Lowe and it's 1-2, then it's huff and puff from there, hit the bar twice and you know it's not our night.

Definitely - I'm sure he will come good again. I would have liked to have seen McNulty play along side Clarke more tonight - much brighter and quicker than Sharpe

I don't think Sharpe is happy playing inside forward alongside Clarke. Doesn't suit him IMO. 4-4-2 looked ok at first but it seemed to fade away

I thought Wilson and O'Connell had to cover way too much for Hussey and Brayford, our full backs need to improve for me as I think the middle two don't look bad additions to the squad, although when they did read the game well they gave it away once or twice as a result of trying to play it out from the back. A lot to work on but it's work in progress.
