Excuse the pun but my BIG worry is height and strength if we bring Morsy in. If the likes of Done, Scoogs, Reed (even Duffy) are playing around the midfield anchorman (Fleck) we are looking like an U16 side again as we did under #N2.

Saw this on Twitter from a Blade who seems to get decent info...

I'd be disappointed if we weren't willing to pay 350k for him.

Andrew Matthew "Andy" Reid is a retired Irish footballer who played as a midfielder. He turned professional in August 1999 making his debut for Nottingham Forest on 29 November 2000 against Sheffield United. Wikipedia

Born: July 29, 1982 (age 34), Dublin, Republic of Ireland

Just what we needed

The retired part may be a stumbling block, we've already got a couple of semi retired players

All this talk of height and strength, what we wouldn't do for players the quality of Archie Gemmill and Johnnie Giles, all midgets according to those who wouldn't tolerate such signings.

There's nothing wrong with short players who are actually good.

But when your team is on the short side, and not very good, you're going to get dominated a lot.

We have enough short players. We need some height and strength in the side.

Disagree. What we lack are enough good players. Of course there needs to be a mix, most of today's football comprises of players with torso's combined with height that enables them to compete, but quality, whatever package it comes in, will make the difference.....aye, aye, I see that Hazard chappie heading our way, better tell him he'll never make a footballer.

You all realise that CW didn't tell that fan to stick a fiver on Morsy signing for nothing now did you? :D

The full CW quote was:
"Stick a fiver on it – but no higher than a fiver, otherwise you'll be really wasting your money"

That's a massive strawman. I never said that a player like Hazard was no good. I said there was nothing wrong with short players who are actually good.

Of course quality wins out. But tall players have their uses, notably at set pieces.

And what I said was that we lack enough good players. That's the first criteria I'd look for. Of course there are positions that cry out for height and strength, but the manager will make that decision. It's really not that complicated.

Neither Trevor Hockey, Willie Carlin or Curtis Woodhouse were big but they rarely lost a tackle for us in midfield against opponents of all sizes. One example sticks in my my mind his when Hockey went through the Tottenham pair of Mike England and Martin Chivers. They were both 6 foot+ and burly with it. Sometimes it is the size of the heart & determination that counts.

I realise that these were rarities and that average players with a larger frame can be more use overall than average players with less physical attributes. I'm not sure where Morsy sits in this comparison.

We've also gained the height of Clarke against the departure of Adams. Clarke I guess will be back to defend corners/free kicks

Yes, Carlin was great. A tenacious little footballer we could have built around. Whaddya know? Derby bid £40,000 and he was off.

A lack of height is a price worth paying to get Morsy and Fleck in midfield together.

Our tallest midfielder in recent years was McDonald, and he was bugger all use in either box in the air. I'd back a retired Geary to win an aerial battle against him. Height by itself shouldn't be a measure of their use at set-pieces. I'm far less concerned by Morsy's height than his desire to actually play for us.

If he goes to Scunthorpe I'll blow my fucking lid.
We can't miss out on one of the best midfielders in the league for peanuts TWICE
