ive seen a lot of posts on here on the Che thread saying Wilder wants this money to reinvest and some saying that will happen, when have we ever done this from selling someone?

Last time I recall was Blake when Kendall got shot and used the money wisely.

Nathan Blake, what a fucking great centre forward he was.

Look at it this way. United held fast against previous bids for Adams and one for DCL. I fully believe Wilder when he says we're not pressured to sell, and that's been proved already.

Meaning that the wage bill is not the issue anymore so there's no reason for the money from the Adams transfer to be used for that purpose.

Now the exact figure is specualtive but is likely to be over 1 million according to all available data. There's nothing else to spend it on other than transfers, so ultimately it comes down to Wilders judgement in future transfers, and there's no reason to doubt him so far.

Do you genuinely believe he'll be given the brass to spend?

I am pretty sure Wilder will have sort a guarantee from the board that a certain % of the fee can be added to what he had already. I think the board / technical wotsits will look at the signings of O'Connell and Fleck and allow money to be spent on similar players.

I certainly have more confidence the money will be spent more wisely than at anytime I can remember.

at a recent fans forum, did CW say we had a competitive budget plus any money raised on transfers?

What Wilder says he wants to do.... and what the board or owners say, is two different things, personally I don't think he will get any of the money

We spent the Nick Blackman money on Jamie Murphy and wages for Danny Higginbotham and Jon Forte.

I still think it we pushed the boat out that January, kept Blackman but signed Murphy anyway then we'd have gone up.

Isn't he a manager of one of the lower league clubs now!?????

History of this club tells us you are right sadly. I am surprised so many fans are so confident this time will be different and that CW will get the money. So many other managers have fallen for the same clap trap from the board about having funds they generate and nearly every time the money on the main has never been reinvested.

It does shock me that supporters actually think this time will be any different when we have heard it so many times before.

I remember my Dad and Granddad telling me that United will always sell their best players and as a result will never go anywhere. I think todays football makes it harder with the money/agents but the sentiment remains. United will never go anywhere if they keep selling their best players. Granted if they replace Adams with 2 or 3 they need then maybe todays sale can be accepted but as I say it is not going to happen. Be pleased if I am wrong.

He didn't say too much about the transfer situation, but what he did say at the time was that existing players on big contracts were impacting on the budget.

All I can do is suspect that the wage bill is no longer a factor or at least it's under control since we turned down previous bids. This would seemingly indicate that there's been no pressure from above to sell.

I never put too much faith in this ownership, not with their previous form, but at the same time, I can't see a valid reason for them not to.

I think the reasons are that they have lied and lied to us year after year. Their form alone makes me sceptical at best that this time will be any different. McCabe has treated us like morons for the best part of 7 or 8 years continually selling anything we have ever had as quick as he can (this sale may have seen us eek a few more quid out) and the sales of Walker/Naughton, Beattie, Quinn, Lowton, Maguire, Slew, Blackman, Murphy etc without properly replacing them allied to awful managers has seen us stuck where we currently find ourselves.

I think he'll get some of the money. If he gets most of it I'll be happy. We've made somewhere between £1-1.5 millions (given what Ilkeston will get). We don't need to spend more than a million. Done well, it could be half of that (in fees at least).

Wilder has said he had money to spend before this sale happened. With the extra funds I'd expect 3 or 4 to come in before the end of the transfer window.

The managerial appointments have been pretty terrible since Warnock by and large and shows that we're led by an ownership with a lack of football knowledge. Player sales are always a grey area for me, we never quite know how much pressure the board have put on the manager to sell or whether it's a case of meddling agents and players wanting to fuck off, in which case I would show them the door.

The reinvesting is the crucial factor in where we are now. We've often done more damage to ourselves when we've actually had the funds. Which goes back to the board appointing clowns as managers.

I reckon the owners trust him so therefore he'll get all the money. Hopefully the owners have seen the Bolton game and recognised an improvement but lets also hope they've recognised what needs adding to the squad. Pace and strength....that is all.

Can the posters speculating on the board giving Tufty the proceeds give an undertaking that when it's clear he's not getting any of it will not post that they " fucking knew he wouldn't get a penny to spend" so we can be spared a few hours of boredom as they contradict themselves?

He will be given a large portion of the Che money on incoming transfer targets. Some of it will go on transfer fees, some of it will go on wage packages for new signings. I would expect to see 4 incomings before the end of the window. Also I wouldnt be surprised if Woolford agreed a piss off package in next couple of weeks - CW wants him off the wage bill pronto but didnt have the means to justify the outlay of a severance pay off pre Che trsnsfer. Think the other transfer listed players will stay on until January at least as no one wants to touch them and CW might as well have em as back up squad players. For all those doubting Utd's board now i can totally understand why as they have let us down time and time again. However i just think that we will be pleasantly surprised and relieved this time as Wildthing will be backed. It helps the board when they are confident that the money will be spent wisely and not just spent on crocks, old boys after a final fat contract, or players who are clearly past their sell by date. Looking forward to the positive news now.

But again this just seems like finger crossing and hoping it happens.

Guess we'll see over the next few days.

Well that's the more likely scenario ;-)

Let's hope this is true, though will believe when I see it.

Sellin Adams and using some of the money to pay off Woolford is just chucking it away, it seems to me.

Hear what you are saying as why use potential transfer money to pay off a player? Depends how u look at it i suppose. I look at it as if you can make a saving over the course of the year then get that commitment paid up and that obligation completed. For example if Woolford is due to receive 250k over the next year til he is out of contract (say 5k a week) and we can give him a lump sum of 100k now to tear his contract up, surely it makes sense to take the 100k hit now and free up 5k a week from the weekly budget? I appreciate figures above estimated and Woolford has to agree but for all the bad press Hammond got at least he took a deal (thanks again Nigel).
