Just shows how deluded some of these doom mongers are, watching that.

Radio made it sound like a bright, aggressive, fluent performance. Watching that, it seems they were right. Much to be excited about. Just wish we could shake off these idiots who want to piss and moan constantly. They just get in the way.

Long not at fault having now seen it.

Rest looked OK.

Wasn't their a great Long save not on this?

Who does the crap headed clearance for the goal? Was it Duffy?

Same shit different day ......................... so where are the feckin highlights. I think we can nickname Clarke ten bob head:confused:

But somehow keep their money so we don't go bankrupt

While doing up the back garden and having BBC radio on , the reporter at the game said ( as an impartial ) observer we should have won the game , if we had put away the chances , nar mind everybody knows you get promoted and season ends after 1 game .
Where's captain Mainwaring when ya need him .

Except we lost.

I'd rather we played like cunts and won. Every game in fact.

It's the only way to get promoted you know. Win games.

Sure, but if you play poorly every game then what happens is the wins are the exception. And when you play well, make lots of chances, today is the exception.

What, based on one minute of highlights and a couple of half chances? You're not reading those highlights correctly. They certainly don't prove anybody criticising must be deluded.

Only the first 20/25 minutes could possibly be described as 'bright, aggressive and fluent'. After that it was scrappy and we never had any sustained spells of pressure or possession. I know, I was there, unlike you and I suspect the majority who liked your post.

And I'm not a 'doom monger' at all. I'm not saying we were that bad. Just pointing out that it was far from what you assume based on very little. We need to create more, but we were up against solid opponents who put out an extremely negative team.

I thought Long was too far out of goal, further back he would have easily tipped it over the bar. :(

Sorry I was there, yes there were good moments in the game, first 15 mins we played well, then Bolton got into the game, and we started to drift. Don't let the highlights fool you, overall it was not a good performance.

Agree but progress from the two previous seasons is key.

So we lose the first game 1-0, to a Bolton side just down from the championship away from home.

Bit of a news flash coming here......WE WILL LOSE GAMES THIS SEASON!!

Positive speaking, for 15 - 25 mins (depending who you're speaking to) we were pretty good. Created chances, looked sharp and should and would have on another day scored at least one. After that it was more scrappy as Bolton got into the game, (teams always have a spell at some point) and we weren't as effective.

So why was that? Again the doom Sayers will say it's because this player or that player are simply shit and the son of Satan....where in truth it's more likely that being under the cosh Bolton changed something to get in the game.
Seems they sat numbers back to try and contain us.
Also, it was hot and very early in the season. Fitness levels are still improving, and it is very hard to keep high intensity for the full game in those circumstances.

Fact is, that the manager (who for me, so far has come across as honest in his assessments) was relatively pleased and upbeat. So I will not be going to town on the players.
We need to be patient, support them vocally and encourage.

I'm betting we see a positive reaction to that undeserved defeat in the next match.....wish I could go!

just from that small clip it looks like we are playing with a bit of urgency which has been sorely lacking recently
great to see the proper kit back.. biggy was right in the shoutbox. there was no stopping that goal. what bugs me though is that teams always seem to score these 'worldies' against us

Exactly the way I saw it, Ricky.
Green shoots
Improvements needed.
Clarke and Sharp need game time to gel. Many times Clarke flicked on and people reacted instead of anticipated.
I was quite disappointed that we created very little second half but especially for the last 12 mins when they went down to 10

That is one area that I thought we didn't do, first 16 mins yews we did play with urgency and high tempo pressing, after that we began to drift, and the tempo dropped, and so did the pressing.

I don't agree with anyone who says it was a poor performance. It wasn't great but it was more a case of our limitations being shown against a strong side who set up extremely defensively.

i'm just going off the clips mate. i wasn't there. last year we 'never' had any urgency at 'any' time. so 16 minutes is a start :D

Pity they didn't show Long's second half save as that was the only opportunity Bolton created. That aside, the one minute of highlights summed up the match really, overall Utd were much the better side creating far more than Bolton did!

As has been mentioned on another thread, with better crossing we would have hammered them, that particularly aspect was appalling!!

Lots to be positive about so let's not be too downbeat after an unfortunate defeat.

Bolton's two chances were a result of long throws. They created nothing otherwise. The second chance - the one where Long saved (and fair play it was an excellent save - we thought it might have hit the post) was a result of the ref giving a foul throw on Brayford for pinching a couple of yards. Some of their throws pinched similar yardage and weren't called up. Annoying as the ref must have understood their threat from Long throws and handed them a golden opportunity. We didn't deal with the long throws very well, which is a concern.

And the attacking of defeats has also started early just like last season Oh the irony.

Agreed.....why can't folk just have a level headed approach rather than the over reaction to every defeat?
If we had turned up yesterday, strolled about, dithered on the ball and passed the buck for 90 mins I would be scathing.
But in the early August heat, first game of the season in what will be one of if not the toughest game of the season anyone slating that performance needs to get a grip on reality.
We may be a well supported side, with a history (albeit a long time ago) of success in the game but that doesn't mean we have a divine right to win every game and expect sides to roll over because a side with a big stadium and a lot of fans has rolled into town. That is arrogance we can leave to the trotter clad twats!
Bolton were forced to defend after getting a goal where the kid would score 2/3 in 10. They set up to contain us and restrict us. It won't be the last time this season.

Nobody is saying we were great, nobody is saying we don't need to get better. But a grip of reality is needed and this side will win a lot more than it loses.

Long throws are a threat in general to all sides. I wouldn't say it's a concern as no side I have ever seen has worked out a way of defending them so well that they are taken out of the game as a viable tactic.
It's still a new side, and the defending will improve.
