No probs, can understand that. No I didn't mean loads of back up options, I was meaning that in Jan he simply had no one on his list. Probably invested instead in more motivational signs for the walls of Shirecliffe. Top manager.

I'm pretty sure our 'Technical Board' decided to all take a month's holiday in January.

I hope all involved at board level are really fucking happy with themselves about that. Utterly retarded not to pursue him. Especially as the excuse was 'he's out of contract in the summer'. Now if we get him it'll only cost us more.

I'd bet that it might have been different if Wilder was in charge back then. Someone who might have been capable of explaining things to them, someone they might have listened to, someone with no loyalty to Dean Hammond.
Why on earth would the board pursue someone that the manager didn't want?

Well most of the technical board (still no idea who the fuck these people actually are or were) were still being sacked around the time of December. I wouldn't be surprised if there was barely anyone on that board in January.

One of the things that I noticed during Adkins's and to a lesser degree Clough's time here, is that they didn't seem to be that involved and hands-on in transfer dealings compared to some managers.

Listening to various interviews, some managers were on the phone wheeling and dealing throughout the respective windows. Now I know that some of it could have been self-promotion, but I thought Adkins in particular seemed totally detached from the recruitment process.

He was, he had already signed the only players who wanted to play for him

To us older uns from Lower Wincobank anyone from the old Flower estate was a Shiregreener same as anyone from the other side of Concord park.
border somewhere around Jepson Road/Leedham Road?

Do you not think a few of those who featured in his four promotions might give it a go, or shall we continue to rewrite history, Bladey style....
They were all luck, don't you know?

I accept entirely that he failed dismally with us, much to my (and others') surprise. That doesn't airbrush his achievements though, which were considerable. I do think, however, that he may have had his run and there'll not be many more chances in the game for him.

The difference between the Adkins we had and the one who achieved things IMO was mainly enthusiasm. By the time he arrived here he will've already been more than set for life financially. I'm also certain he had more than his fair share of luck in the past as well. You need a lot of luck if you know as little about football as him.

We really got lucky with Clough and Adkins didn't we. The pair of them were a disgrace.
With hindsight Adkins was the biggest disappointment and I had such high hopes! With Clough I had no hopes and he probably delivered more, due to those fantastic cup runs, but boy what a legacy that we are still having to deal with.

Must have lived on the end of Fort Hill Road!!!

What a nightmare that is when it snows

I take it Morsy's rumours are now long gone. Oh well. Was looking forward to us possibly signing him

As long as Wigan are interested in Brayford I'd say it's still on the cards. If Morsy doesn't start Wigan's first few games that could make it likely.

Didn't giddiness posts CW had dissed Brayford rumour?

With foresight I told you so, a few months into last season.

I posted a thread entitled "Adkins - possibly the worst manager of all time" and of course not everyone agreed. Some disagreed vehemently! (Good word "vehemently" eh?).

The thing is, I can spot a complete clueless tosspot and bullshitter of the highest order when I see one - I've worked with plenty.

I admit I was delighted when we signed him, like 99% of Blades. But the bullshit flowed thick and fast and it was really obvious within a few weeks that he was a complete clown. Even so, we still had some wanting him to get a second season with us - I'd love to hear their reasons for that?

I also told you that Adkins would sign Hammond no matter what. And he did. He rigged it for him good and proper.

I'm not a man who is ITK - I'm OTK mostly. I'm also not a violent, law-breaking individual. But if I ever bumped into that tosspot Adkins in a bar I'd throw my Vimto all over him. Just to be "cordial".
