Sheffield United target Sam Morsy will only leave Wigan Athletic for a hefty fee - according to Latics manager Gary Caldwell.

Former Chesterfield midfielder Morsy is high on Chris Wilder’s wanted list, with the Blades chief eyeing a headline signing in the middle of the park before the big kick-off.

But Wigan say that Morsy, 24, who only moved to Lancashire in January, is a big part of their plans.

Caldwell, who is rumoured to be interested in Blades defender Jon Brayford, said: “Sam is somebody who is a big part of the squad.

then drivels on about Brayford

a big part of their plans to barter with , not on the park

I don't remember a lot about Morsy. Is he THAT good that wwe are prepared to lose Adams and/or Brayford just to take Morsy on. Bearing in mind that Morsy is not that tall and then we still have to look at bringing in a tall midfielder and hopefully a tall cb?

(stamps foot in rage!) I don't want to lose The beard! If we do, I shall scweam and scweam until I am sick!

So Caldwell is cleverly trying to talk up the value of Morsy in the attempt to squeeze as much as he can from us. After all Wigan are losing more a year than we are.

He fancies taking Brayford, we want Morsy. He wants to do a straight swap whereas we want to pay £300k for Morsy, and sell them Brayford for close to what we paid for him.
By that reckoning, if we get our way Wigan are a million down....if Wigan get their way then vice versa.

My guess.....end of August we will sell Brayford for £250k plus Morsy. Assuming Brayford will go to that shithole that is.

They cannot possibly be losing more a year than we are - last season they had parachute payments just about equal to our total turnover ie £9M.

And guess what, they still have another £9M parachute payments coming in for 2016/17.

Their aim is to stay up. Their problems start in 2017/18 when they don't have parachute payments. They have no chance of ever reaching the Premier League again but they can certainly compete in the Championship this season.

So

Is the maguire money financing Morsy or Adams, Brayford or DCL. Wilder isn't going to get mugged off anytime soon

Alan Biggs has just confirmed on Twitter that we could have had him in January as he wanted to come.

I hope all involved at board level are really fucking happy with themselves about that. Utterly retarded not to pursue him. Especially as the excuse was 'he's out of contract in the summer'. Now if we get him it'll only cost us more.

I'd bet that it might have been different if Wilder was in charge back then. Someone who might have been capable of explaining things to them, someone they might have listened to, someone with no loyalty to Dean Hammond.

The board made cash available. Adkins didn't want. The board were still putting their faith in the power of geese.

Sure about that? Since Adkins didn't seem to be allowed to sign anyone in Janaury apart from extend the loan deal of Hammond.

Adkins wanted a centre back and that never happened til after the window closed and we got Baptiste on loan.

Afraid so. Obviously they didn't want to come out and say 'it's not us, it's him that won't spend', but they were very frustrated with him. He had the cash available. The words 'no one on my list currently' kept getting used. Scary.

I heard the same too at the time.

Well whoever was to blame... total, total fuck wits.
They'll be the reason he's not playing for us this season, not Wigan or Morsy rejecting any approach.

If that's true about Adkins he either wanted the sack or really does know absolutely nothing about football.

Certain board members wanted to sack him in January but NA was licking more influential ones arseholes

What does it say about Lee Turnbull by the way if Adkins didn't have anyone in mind to sign in January? He'd been in the job for months. Did he have no existing knowledge of players whatsoever? No one to recommend?

Just another useless cunt, employed by yet another manager seemingly more concerned by giving his mates a job than he was for the football club.

Thank God those days are over.

Im not ITK at all but i do know a lad who as regular conversations with a current board member at the Lane. The 'lad' in question has previously told me that there were funds available to Madkins but these werent taken up for whatever reason (probably as Adkins favourite ex players werent available at that time - if u look at the players he signed Sharp, Woolford and Hammond out of a total of five he signed it seems that he had a tendency to sign ex players). On that basis, Madkins only has himself to blame as the help was there. I do know that a few board members as early as the endnof last year thought that Madkins was playing to get away and take the lucrative sacking compensations package. Put simplely he didnt want to out the hours and work in to turn the club around. He cheated the fans in my opinion and i cant be doing with the man. At least if CW fails it wont be through lack of effort or not putting in the hours for the cause.

Adkins made it very clear throughout the season that he wanted a centre back and a winger. He put names to the board. They made offers. None were accepted. That’s what we were told. We’ve no idea how many names, what terms were offered etc. What we do know for sure is that Adkins wanted players and they didn’t arrive. My guess is that that there were 2 reasons behind this.

1- We already had a huge wage bill and promotion only looked an outside chance in January meaning they were reluctant to invest more.

2- The board were losing faith in Adkins by January and considering sacking him in the summer so would not commit to signing players he wanted in January as they didn’t want Wilder inheriting the same problems Adkins inherited from Clough.

Some posters just seem to determined to protect the remaining board members that they will invent a scenario where Adkins wanted to persevere with a shit squad which would ultimately cost him his job.

There was probably an element of the club getting cold feet with Madkins and therefore potentially not backing him in the January window, but there was definately a sense at the club that NA wanted out with a nicepay off before January came and went. To me, neither board or NA and his 'team' covered themselves in glory and the fans were the ones to suffer yet again.

He had cash to spend in January. At the meeting the board asked who he wanted, was looking at etc etc. He said he had no one on his list currently. The man was out of his depth and becoming (even more) arrogant and stubborn by the day. As Weasel says 'At least if CW fails it wont be through lack of effort or not putting in the hours for the cause'.

And I've no reason / inclination to protect anyone, and I'll blame 'them' for putting Adkins in there in the first place. Last min decision when it was all but Parkinson's anyhow, but that's another thread I suppose. Let's hope the future is brighter. UTB.

We really got lucky with Clough and Adkins didn't we. The pair of them were a disgrace.

Remember that post from a bloke watching our youth team at Chesterfield when the seniors were playing at the Lane at the same time? He said Turnbull had looked at his phone as the score was coming through (we were losing) and laughed.

I’m sorry but I’m calling bullshit.

No manager in the land looks at his squad, sees them struggling, sees a load of inherited dross and when offered the chance to strengthen says “nah, fuck it, I’ll take my chances with these lot”.

In fact, we know he identified Ryan Kent and Dan Burn for a start. We also know he and others at the club talked about failed bids for players at the close of both transfer windows.

I can only assume what you mean is that he didn’t have loads of back up options on his list when those negotiating failed to land any of his named targets preferring to wait or to keep bidding for those he’d identified. Quite the opposite of Clough’s scattergun approach.
