What makes you think Wilson is similar to McGahey?

Seeing him play and also his reputation.

We've looked at him before (apparently) and a couple of years ago he was considered a talented CB. He has a similar lack of agility and skill and McGahey. Like McGahey he's not progressed, but has played a lot of games. He looked so shit at the Lane this year. Slow, cumbersome - a veritable accident waiting to happen.

The only thing I'd say to that is tell me any player at this level who wouldn't have had a thread about them like this at some point? I wouldn't even write McGahey off from having a career at this level and acknowledge he was awful for us.

True, but that's just to add an Oldham perspective.

I've seen him play, I think 4 times, plus various highlights over the last 2 years. Reserve at best but since he'd be 3rd choice we should be looking at better. Far better players are being snapped up around us.

Heres a novel idea ,before telling everyone what a shit player someone is ,have a look at him in a Utd shirt first otherwise you might look very silly. I reckon you would have been the one saying Brian Deane was a talentless clown at Doncaster ,had Foxy got his finger out many years ago.

Our best spells have been polishing rough diamonds. If we sign Wilson, I'm looking forward to watching Wilder aid his development. I've had enough of being negative (for good reasons btw). We have to turn a corner and do what others do which isn't necessarily signing the best players from League 1 &2.

I was just answering a question. He's always seen very reminiscent of McGahey to me. Obviously with more game time.

And obviously again, if we sign him I'll give him a clean slate. I just worry if he's one of our first choices.

The fact that Foxy failed to develop and popularise the internet by the time he was out of infant school is a source of constant disappointment to me. Typical yoof - no get up and go.

A little bit better than James Wilson and Jermaine Grandison. One a first teamer who didn't stand out for a team who nearly got relegated, the other released due to his fitness issues.

Curtis Nelson, Ryan Tafazolli, Paul Downing all would have been very capable first teamers for us alongside our main target McFadzean but it seems we're after second rate cannon fodder.

Nelson wasn't that good in the POF but yes, long term, he could be a good signing. Don't know much about the other two but Wilder will have been well aware of Tafazoli. He may be a player that takes a season to adapt to the higher standard.

I'm not confident of promotion but if we've got two L1 centre halves behind a decent midfield, with our attacking options we should be able to finish in or around the playoffs, if CW can get the players to work hard for each other.

Let's see who we actually sign before we panic.

Tafazoli's agent asked for £10K a week so do you really think we should agree to that despite Tafazoli had never played at L1 level before???

Probably not and I very much doubt that Peterborugh have.. But not being able to sign any of the young players who have been courting attention and are seemingly on the up or established very capable professionals like Beevers and McFadzean (so far) is frustrating and disappointing. Especially when you consider that they’re ending up at smaller divisional rivals.


If the players we sign are of the ilk of Wilson and Grandison, there’s some justification in feeling underwhelmed. Doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed failures but having played in teams that struggled recently without particularly standing out, it’s hard to get excited about them.

I think we’re some way off. I think Duffy and Basham are decent members of the midfield. The rest looks poor (though Reed and Whiteman have some potential).

Tbh, no idea. I don't even know how we're going to line up yet. If we played Coutts and Basham centrally in a 442 my guess is that we'll be in trouble but I don't think we'll do that.

I agree. I really can't see both being regular starters. Scougall maybe if it's a 3 man midfield but can't see how McNulty is anything more than a sub.
