Ffs fellow blades I'm a cynical cunt but we have not hit pre season yet and the wheels are already coming off. I for one haven't enjoyed this week's transfer activities some of our rivals have got stronger while we have stagnated. Of all the players signed in our league I'm not sure any of them are a vast improvement in what we have, i don't believe we should be signing players because they're available, we need a streamlined squad of 20 odd to fit into Wilder's plans and work ethic. I believe he will achieve this before the start of the season plenty of time yet looking forward to a promotion push so keep ya knickers on UTB

Ah, don't pay any attention. It's a tradition among this clubs fans to get itchy vaginas when we haven't had a fully completed new squad by the end of last seasons final game.
I know mate we desperately need cb's if 4 of them fuckers had gone to our rivals I could understand it a bit,but ffs can't honestly see any of those signed by our rivals that would significantly improve us

Why are people complaining about people complaining about the incompetence of Sheffield United FC in pre season?

In the past 5 years those people have been spot on every single season.

I think the point is that you need to let it play out a bit to see if this follows suit. Just feels like some people want to get rid of the vibe of when wilder walked in.

CW managed to get unknowns playing good football last season, maybe, just maybe he may be able to do the same with some of the individuals last season who wouldn't play for Adkins. If he continues reducing the number of dead beats whilst rewarding those who want to wear the shirt then thats a good start for me. We haven't played a single match yet, he has a great record, give him a chance.

What's become a tradition is this club sitting on its arse as all the best L1 players move to our rivals, usually before the start of pre season, and proceed to get them promoted.

It's understandable that the fans get edgy once the signs appear that this could happen again - not that it's been anything like the 'meltdown' so many love to exaggerate.

I can't believe people are getting frustrated over 2 journeymen strikers in Novak & Revell, a 29 year old winger whose had one good season and a league 2 defender who thinks he warrants 10k a week!
Its gone quiet for a couple of weeks and people are already getting upset.
Yes there are clear holes to fill but Wilder knows what needs to be done.

I agree, the club has dragged its feet in recent times, and that's putting it mildly. But we've made two signings straight off the bat, one from the league above and one from this division.
The players that have been signed by others aren't outstanding at this level by any means.

Wilder has indicated that he knows what he wants, and he's not the type to let the grass grow under his feet.

Personally I'm pleased with our two signings and not bothered about most who've gone elsewhere given what they've apparently cost, but if we were in for them and missed out then it's not a promising sign. It might be a case of us lowering our wage ceiling while a number of other L1 clubs increase theirs and pay over the odds, but even if that's the case, we'd still be missing out. I don't doubt Wilder but it wouldn't surprise me if the financial constraints are even greater than we think.

Yep. This about sums it up.

If we are writing off next seaon as rebuild and we are happy with 9th to 15th as consolidation then fine.

But if we expect a promotion challenge then alarm bells should be ringing. We are nowhere near assembling a squad for that at the moment.

Well that's the problem isn't it. McCabe himself has played down our prospects for the next season, and is merely aiming for "improvement", which indicates that we'll hardly have a war chest for transfers. At the same time he wants us to be an established Premiership club.
We're a joke at board level.

Ffs , it is 18 June , not 18 July. Just enjoy the fixtures coming out next week. Then see what happens at the return to training. You can bet the 7 rejects will be under the media microscope. I doubt some of them will turn up. In one case , he would need physical protection from fans. One or two might think they can show CW something (a change of energy or attitude ?) and try to train themselves off the transfer list. I doubt they can succeed but perhaps one might. It's going to be intriguing. To say nothing of who will train as CB until the real CBs arrive

Hmmmm ...... I'm not so sure there.

Adjose and Holmes are decent players at this level so I'm surprised that we weren't competing for those two, given the broad, glaring deficiencies of our squad. Its not the end of the world to miss out on those two but the most worrying issue is that there's no evidence that we are actually addressing the major issues we have had for years.

I agree we shouldn't be paying way over the odds for players, that's foolish as we have evidenced over the last 5 years and it doesn't get you out of this division, but we do need players whi are capable of being consistent in this Division and we only currently have about 5 of those !! Not much of a squad eh ??

Why do you count Holmes a decent player at this level yet forget to mention Duffy in a similar position. also if wilder can get something out of Holmes is it not possible to get something similar from Adams done or scougall?

We already have decent players at this level in forward positions. We are working to a budget so imagine blowing it on players who would rotate in the forward areas when all the money should be spent on cbs and cm. If we managed to move the 7 listed then you have budget to fill the squad. Glad some of you are not spending my money.

FACT CHECK - we signed over 20 players in one season under Clough.

Novak would've improved us. He carried Chesterfield. Ask any of their fans.

Holmes would've improved us. None of our players can do what he did for Northampton last season.

Ajose would've improved us. We lack a pacey striker.

Tafazolli would've improved us. He's a centre back and we don't have another one whatsoever to compare him with.

So you can bollocks with all this shit about not missing out on anything. Load of horse shit.

As I said on another thread the real proof of our ambition will be in the quality of centre back we sign. We can get by without any more forwards and we may not sign any more midfielders but we clearly need 2 centre halves.

If the likes of McFadzean and Pierre are signed we will know we mean business if it's Collins and McEverly lookalikes then it's the same owd same owd.

The jury is out at the minute but it's understandable people are getting twitchy as we've needed centre halves ever since Harry left so the past evidence of us signing them isn't good !

If only the jury was out

None of us know what is really going on behind the scenes. CW has said in his most recent interview this week, as he has since he got the job, that the main priority is to sign two or three centre backs. He also wants a winger, left footed midfielder and a target man striker. He's not changed what he's been saying since he got the job, so I see no reason to doubt that he's going to sign these players.

I'm no different to everyone, I cant wait to see a team of proper Blades players, putting in effort and wearing the shirt with pride, after watching the absolute garbage we had to put up with last season, served up by Adkins. We are all desperate to see new players signed as soon as possible, so that we can see that things may at last be on the up, however the main movement of players doesn't really start until July. Look at the players we released, who are all virtually still looking for new clubs. Numerous other clubs have not signed anybody yet, although I accept our required team building is on a larger scale that most other teams. The number of new players required however is a positive, as it allows CW to bring in players of his own choice, instead of just making do with what he's got.

Yes, a couple of players that may have been suitable have been signed by Charlton, however CW doesn't appear bothered by this. Although a player choosing Northampton ahead of the Blades appears strange, there may be several reasons for this. The player was 32, so may have been swayed by being offered a longer contract. Northampton is probably nearer where he currently lives and his prospects of playing every week are far higher there, than at the Blades. There are numerous other suitable players out there who CW will have identified.

Have patience and keep the faith in CW. He's promised to say it as it is and he's still saying we are going to be signing new players. A couple of new centre back signings could be announced at any time and suddenly everything will look very positive for next season.
A Blades team managed by a proper manager, full of players busting a gut, looking like they actually care and playing in red and white stripes. I personally cant wait for the new season.

I asked a workmate who is a Chesterfield fan about Novak. He says "He works hard but not good enough to improve a club's chances of getting promotion to Championship division!
I work in Chesterfield. Amongst many Chesterfield fans. All of which devastated they've not signed him

My workmate was spot on about Jamie Ward and Luke Beckett. Also predicted Eion Doyle wouldnt do well for Cardiff. He knows a lot about League One players and he reminds me of Bergen Blade when talking about matches!

Well he can't be aware of the fact he's already helped someone get promoted to the Championship then - Huddersfield in 2011/12.

You don't score the amount he did for Chesterfield without being capable of helping another team get promoted from the same division.

It does depend who's playing with him, if he was the main striker in a team going for promotion I wouldn't be fully confident, but if someone like Ajose's alongside him then I would be, especially as Novak's the sort of provider who'll ensure Ajose continues to score at a good rate.

4 years ago Dean Hammond was a quality midfield player who could run!
