Right, I'm having Charlton for the title.

Can still get 20/1 at Coral.

It's starting to look like they might do a Wigan.

They've clearly got money to spend, and have a decent, reliable manager as well as some good L1 players already.

I wonder if signing Holmes could make Callum Harriott available though?

Looks like Holmes and Ajose to Charlton http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36548361

They spent quite a lot last time and it looks like they're doing it again. Didn't expect to see Holmes transfer go through so soon. If they sign Ajose they'll be up there, but at least this time they still have all the fan unrest. Doesn't look like we've really gone for Holmes, no doubt because we knew we couldn't afford him. Time for a surprise winger signing then it seems, unless we get Chris Taylor. As good as Holmes is, he is having to step up to League One and it'll be interesting to see if he can replicate his League 2 form.

Can't imagine they would wither let him go or we could afford his wages.

The more I click onto different blades forums, the more dirty I'm starting to feel!
Does anyonelse feel as though they're being raped by the UTD hierarchy!?
I need a quick shower just before I put my feet up n watch England struggling again!

Location might have played a part in Holmes choosing Charlton. It might well have been another case of a Southener wanting to stay in the dirty South! Here's what Northants chaiaman said.

In my discussions with Ricky he wasn’t desperate to leave, and he told me that he loved his time at Northampton. But at his age and stage of career, the financial offer available to him and the location of the club in relation to his family home, all added together, were big deciding factors

Not signing Holmes really isn't a big issue for me. Especially not at the reported cost. I'd rather we loaned a young premier league talent in and concentrated on getting a couple of CBs in asap. Beevers would be a good start.

I thought we weren't signing Holmes yet because all our targets were on holiday?

Peterborough and Charlton are recruiting excellently thus far, just how we should have been.

Moncur(?), Tafazolli, Ajose, Holmes, while we're having to pretend we're happy with Duffy and Hussey.

I'm happy enough with Duffy....

The other day you were moaning about Hussey being too old at 27. Holmes is 29 next week.
It's not all about age. Age is a factor. I pointed out the two we have sigbed are older players without the level of talent I'd want to compensate. If we must have insisted we went for a few oldies, in terms of technical ability and what he can offer a side, Holmes would have been an older player I'd have been far happier with.

I've just wrote it on the other thread...
Isn't that all our rumors wrapped up!?
As in, gone somewhere else?!

Can I ask why you would have been happier to bring in older technical players?

Doesn't take a genius to.see how this seasons transfer activity is going to pan out

I'm not saying we aren't signing anyone or the work isn't being done, it just seems like the rumors have dried up. No?
McFadzean, Pierre, Irvine, Beevers, Taylor, Digby are all still available as far as I know. Just because the rumour-mongers have got bored and prefer to talk about Roofe doesn't mean we aren't in for any of these players, or others.

Where have I said that?

I said I'd have preferred Holmes over Duffy and Hussey, that was all.

So to stop any confusion, you said you would have been FAR happier had Holmes been older?

No I don't know how you've got to that, but you've completely misunderstood.

Why would anyone want a player to be older than they are? :D

They're all older players all three of them.

I'd have preferred Holmes over the two we've ended up with.

Irrespective of the league, the best players demand the higher wages and the selling club demands a fee..
Sooner or later we have to get onboard or rely on a bit of luck to get free transfers that pay off or a young un making the grade...it's all a bit frustrating tbh

Can't afford to rely on luck. We should have the resources available to be able to pip every other team to the post in terms of wages for the best of the lower divisions. Sadly, I think it's clear to see that won't be the case.

Going to be a do it on the cheap season. Can't wait to start watching more players we should be in for go and strengthen rival clubs as well. We've already got off to a great start on that one.
