Charlton have had 2 bids rejected from Northampton. Holmes could move there as it's only 40 miles from his home town of Rochester.

'Knill...if we knick Duffy and Holmes from under their noses they're going to be reyt peeved...it's almost as if they wanted Wilder as manager

I've read somewhere that when Wilder joined Northampton from Oxford he didn't return for any of their players out of respect for his former employers. It wouldn't surprise me if he's sticking by those principle with regards to raiding Northampton, with whom he has a greater rapport with, now that he's joined us. I think Adam Smith, John Joe O-Toole and Ricky Holmes would all improve us but I haven't seen anything to suggest he's interested, especially given that Long has signed a new deal and Charlton are the club bidding for Holmes.

I could fully imagine that but I'm sure he said in an interview the other week that he's in talks with someone he knows very well.

Fuck respect, how much respect is his job worth if Northampton arrive at the lane n turn us over, he's the one telling players that they need to do anything for the shirt, well it's time he looked in the mirror and took notice of what he's spouting!!! We need good players, if one or two play for his old club, so what, get in, get em n get out, we're the big club in this league Mr McCabe, time to flex the fucking muscles dude n give us a team WE can be proud of, afterall, WE WEAR MOST OF THE FUCKING SHIRTS DONT WE!!!!!!!

YES SIR!

I understand Wilder not wanting to raid his old clubs but surely if a player puts in a transfer request then it's open season?

In a radio interview about a week ago Wilder said he did sign Oxford players at Northampton and now he's working for us would have no qualms about where our players came from.

I must have missed that, I'll take your word for it. I agree with the above responses, I don't think there's too much room for being sentimental in football (business), especially within our hire and fire environment. If he thinks he can trust some former players and get the best out of them then he should go after them. Early indications to me suggest he's not interested, or is perhaps privy to the knowledge that they're not interested in moving North.

You can't always trust your old players!
Woolford and Coutts didn't help their ex bosses out.

Don't listen to him everyone – shoot the messenger!

Again, it's a case of us actually not knowing if Wilder is at all interested.
I think your spot on Chali, Wilder put that team together, any real quality and I would think he would go back for them, just cus Charlton have pushed the boat out to get him means nothing Mr Wilder must have his own targets.

Nicky Ajose to Charlton too.
Fuck sake :(
Maybe we were after neither, but I'd like some news on the ones we are.

Statement time from Charlton. Big statement.

Very disappointing from a Blades perspective tbh.

And with Millwall getting David Worrall today too, the action's really starting.

Disappointing but also understandable that we wouldn't pay 750k for a 29 year old winger whilst in L1. Hope we have a follow up statement soon though or the forum will be in meltdown.

Would we have paid even £200k for him? Will we actually pay a fee for a desirable player this pre-season?

Time will tell.

Just hope Chris's hands aren't being cuffed, preventing him competing with the "powerhouses" (like Mansfield).

All 3 are very good signings for Charlton and ones I would've been pleased with had they come here. We're being left behind again.

I'm disappointed to be honest but player wise I'd pick billy over Ajose and signing wise I'd have Duffy over Holmes.
Holmes was one of the best midfielders in league 2 last year but we've just signed one of the best wingers in THIS league last term.
