The latest comment from Wilder (from the Star site on Sunday) about the season coming seems to be a change in language already:

“My aim is just to win the next game and see where it takes us,” Wilder added. “Long term, obviously, we want to get out of this division. There should be nothing to stop us doing it this year if we get things right, the players gel and we bring in good people."

There are a lot of ifs in there. It reads like a disclaimer to me, and that's the long term.

What do you want him to say? "We are 100% going up, this division is wank, fuck everyone else"

Somehow, I doubt it. Hes having to make wholesale changes to a squad, anything can happen but luckily he seems focussed on getting only quality in so fingers crossed. Star are just struggling for stories so we end up with this shite. Roll on August 6th

Well that we be an eye opener ! ;)

The proof of the boards ambition and firepower will be in the 2 centre halves we sign. They can get away without strengthening the attack and they've bought Duffy so it wouldn't surprise me if there's no more middies brought in.

However centre back is an area where we have to sign 2 decent players. If we end up with the likes of Macfadzean and Pierre we know we mean business. If we end up with Collins and McEverly lookalikes then the writing is on the wall and Wilder is going to have to perform miracles

Sounds good. No stupid, arrogant claims that we are going up, or we expect to go up because we're big.

Just a statement that we have to things the right way, same way that other clubs wanting to get out of this division have to.

But, like he says, we have to "bring in good people"...

...didn't Wilder say he wanted everyone in by the 23rd for pre-season?

Plenty 'O time...

Can remember last season when the rookie Wigan chairman and manager said they would walk the league and aim for 100 points . We took the piss , but they hit the target with promotion, if not points tally .

Unfortunately arrogance and total self belief never works at BDTBL because the board and football management never appear to be in unison.

Wilder is playing softly softly catch a monkey . Anything less than automatic will be classed as failure by Wilder . The bar is set high next season , but this big club bollocks was a hinderance in the past. . I think Wilder will use it to his advantage and so will the players . Any fucker can kick a ball , it's getting a team who have the right mentality .

Blessing in disguise in that Revell fella has not signed.

UTB.

But yet you're ignoring the fact that duffy signed for us rejecting other teams. Come on, play fair with the negative shit

We might have offered him a deal, but it was on our terms not his and he rejected it

Agree with you on both points. However, if Revell was to be our 'target man' then it worries me that we're really shopping in the bargain bucket. He's ok as cover but if we were going to be relying on him to play say 20 games then that's an indictment of how little money we have.

Who said he was our main target? The type of player he is sounds like the player tufty was describing which was a back up target man

Yep but unless we were going to sign 2 target men he'd have e'en first choice target man. I reckon Northampton have guaranteed him the number 9 shirt and he's gone there cus he wants to play...which is indication of a good attitude and why Wilder was after him in the first place

I'm not sure I'm getting your point. If he'd have signed for us then he'd be the only CF we'd be signing surely?

But we seemingly tried to sign him though, which is worrying.

Revell is a good player or was . He would have been a fantastic squad player , but I think he perhaps doesn't want the front line Blade pressure and long drive to and from work.

If he chooses Nothampton over us , so be it . I heard we actually offered him more money , but with add ons , for appearances , league position , promotion etc.

If Northampton offered a longer contract and bigger basic wage , then good luck to the bloke . At least McCabe has always made sure salaries are paid on time.:D

We ain't got money to chuck around , but let's see what our final 11 will look like . Get them 2no CB players lined up .

More positives than negatives , and Wilder will tell it , how he sees it . Let's give the fella time and some slack. The signings will come , whether we all agree with them is another matter . It's all about 3 points at the end of the day.

He would still be 5th in line to play. He wants first team football at 32, or you emhope he would do.

No he wouldn't. He'd be 3rd in line and on the bench at least every week. He'd be our only target man.

Let's see some fucking ambition for once Blades.

We are not Fleetwood ffs. Get a grip. Think bigger and better.

Why say that though because you don't know.

Vast majority of supporters don't.

So we must have offered Duffy a good deal over charlton for him to join us. Now considering people are saying that charlton offered 500k for Holmes then I doubt they were offering Duffy chicken feed.

Sometimes you just have to apply logic in a discussion, which most of the rest of us do. Most of us end up not being right but most of us don't pretend to know everything.

It must be difficult thinking of something different to say every few days to feed the media and fans in the closed season. When all the talk is over there is only one thing we will believe and that's results and performances on the pitch.

Lower my expectations!
Blades and England for all these years.
Please tell me what I should be expecting robbiez666 ??

I wonder if CW is already pondering if he did the right thing leaving Northampton.
