But fans of other countries will be going to games in packed stadia, creating party atmospheres and not bothering themselves about England, or Russia, or the French police.

The Irish, for example, will be far too busy enjoying themselves to worry about protesting. In fact they - like every other country involved in the Euros bar England - will have zero need for protest.

Appears not. The poles have attacked northern Ireland fans but no doubt that will be to do with England fans somehow;)

Does that flag belong to some of our academy staff? Sure I saw something on twitter.

What about sweeping statements that England fans caused it which you seem to be making?

Here's a question then. When the Russians and / or French fans came into the square and started attacking England fans indiscriminately (first hand picture from my mate who got back this morning), should those who fault back not have done so and just taken the beatings or run away creating a dangerous crush as happened in the stadium after the final whistle? Don't get me wrong, I've no sympathy with anyone who starts something and pays the price but if ever me and mine are attacked, I'm going to react and I'd think most would do the same......and I'm nearly 60.

The only sweeping statement I'm making is that it's always the English involved in this sort of shit. And when I say "English" I mean the minority who bring shame on the great majority.

I'll let you (and others who want to) do the sympathising bit. I'm more interested in condemning those amongst our support who go looking for this sort of situation.

Norn iron fans been attacked according to latest reports

It sounds like the Police are doing naff all in the way of Policing correctly.
They watched the Russians gather, saw them mask up, saw them walk up the street and start attacking people just eating a meal. THEN the police use the gas and that affects the victims more than the perpetrators.
So your not sure whether this actually happened or not.

Don't worry, Boo will never let the truth (or lack of it) stop him from launching one of his anti-Russian tirades.

Always the English involved????? Suggest you check your facts before spouting stuff like that. Poland and n Ireland today and there have been plenty of incidents between fans of sides in games not even involving England.

Let's start a list of "entirely innocent" victims of violence at Euro 2016 -

1. England
2. Northern Ireland

Be interesting to see who else (if anyone) gets added to the list.

Having spent considerable time in different cities in France I couldn't agree more Marseille is a political powder keg and uefa have done themselves no favours having an 8 o'clock kick off in a city which is known for its intolerance, between two teams who have reputations for "misbehaving" abroad. Thats not to say I condone what has happened but it was almost to expected. I imagine there will be a few more isolated incidents as the tournament goes on but nothing like what we have seen in Marseille. As soon as the draw came out I said were not going to Marseille so we are travelling this week. People assume Marseille is much like Nice or Cannes being on the south coast but that really couldn't be further from the truth.

It appears the violence may continue to Lens since Lille is close by and guess whose playing there? Putin's Patriots.

One has to ask given the bloody millions floating around in football and on 'security' which intellectual dickheads put England and Russia in adjoining cities for matches? Ok unless the draw was 'rigged' it couldn't stop them being drawn together in the same group but... Wonders how secure the mentality of these stupid organisers is.

Apparently it was the local hooligans in Nice* that attacked Poles and Iron who were all drinking together and getting on just fine.

*I was going to call them Nice hooligans but that sounded, well, just a little twee...

Poland. Jon bon has kindly pointed out that the French attacked them and the Irish.

Lets be honest its been open season on both England supporters and English clubs for years. OK fighting at matches started in the late 60s here (anyone else remember battles with Man City, Leeds, Newcastle?)
This is our legacy, IMO we have been surpassed over the years by thugs in Turkey, Italy, Holland and now Russia - and yes we still have some morons
I used to work abroad a lot and found that by and large we English are disliked, particularly by the French

Give a dog a bad name and all that.
Wouldn't get me out there for a gold pig (sorry Wendy fans)

All what is entirety clear is that the Russian mob looked like a highly trained, muscled up bunch of cage fighters carrying knives, who had gone there for one reason only. They took flares into the ground and set them off despite the terrorism threat and it appears they got away with it that and the violence.

My point is that if that's happening in France what will it be like in Russia? I for one won't be going to find out and I hope the Irish and everyone else have a great time over there.

Thanks jb. So that's 3 sets of fans with cause for complaint and I'd probably also add the innocent russians caught up in it.:)

Looking forward to your spirited defence next season of poor innocent Millwall fans caught in a vortex of violence not of their own choosing...

As already mentioned the planning by the French FA/ Uefa has been an utter shambles.

Putting Russia and England together for the first game on a Saturday evening in a hugely unstable city, what on Earth were they expecting!?

Wasn't it only a couple of months ago a Marseille game against Lyon got stopped because their fans were laying into a player that had left them the previous season?

Hate to say it but if UEFA want to make a decisive stance then they should kick England and Russia out of the tournament Imediately I'm English but both sets of fans are a disgrace.

FIFA also should strip Russia of the next World Cup.

Three trillion Roubles in a brown envelope says they don't :)

Start panicking when the Germans move on the Poles ................... dont usually end well

Thursday, June 16th (2016, rather than 1939).

Be an interesting comparison point to the England-Russia shenanigans tbh. Will it all kick off?

Next Thursday, Wales Vs England in a small town just over the Channel ............. what could possibly go wrong

Its good that its an early (2pm) kickoff, not night time

England have a 100% record at Lens, 2 - 0 Vs Columbia, Beckhams first goal, sicknote got the other

Bodes well for Wheelchair Willshire

That is exactly what I've been hearing, spoke via text to a couple who were out there and the Police tear gassed a bar where they were drinking last night purely cos some fans were singing football songs in the outside chairs, which provoked some morons to retaliate by throwing objects back at them.

Today they were attacked on two sepearate occasions by Russian Ultras for no reason, no Police in sight and had to run for it. They have already said that's it for them for international games and are heading for Spain to enjoy the rest of their holiday.

The French have stitched us right up here.
Just texted my mate and his wife said the 90 minutes of the game was the safest they have felt since they arrived in France and even that didn't last, due to the Russians rushing them at the final whistle.

Went to that game, lens like a ghost town , everything shut, no one on the streets apart from police

Poor old England fans always the sinned against never the sinner. I spend half my life in France and I've never yet been "indiscriminately whacked" with a stick by a police officer. Those England fans must have been very unlucky

The French Police have announced that they will be deploying their top surveillance unit to spot trouble before it begins at future fixtures...

If anyone wants to see some interesting footage of some of the scene's last night check out Stan Collymore's Twitter feed and his periscope reports.

Totally agree but it's not the same.

English Football fans (even families who are not seeking trouble) are fair game as they are viewed as the scum of the earth by our establishment and all politicians on the continent.

It's one of the reasons I'd never travel to a tourno with England. I'd like a chat with opposition fans over a beer and I always seek to sample local culture when abroad but match a trip abroad and England football and you are setting yourself up for a problem no matter how hard you would try to avoid it.

Then there are the idiots and the rowdies amongst the travelling England fans who believe that the state cannot touch them unless they have committed an offence (because of the outrage it would cause if it happened in this country). The French police don't work that way, especially on what they see as public disorder.

If anybody is even contemplating on a trip to Russia in 2018 (assuming England qualify and are not excluded from the tourno) is suggest the wisest investment they could make is a Kevlar vest.
